In conversation with Prachi Desai who is in a jubilant mood with her debut in 'Kasamh Se'
Break
"I am from Surat. I was studying in Pune and did some modelling there. An ad in the newspaper caught my fancy and I landed up at Balaji Productions for an audition. I could never imagine that I would be selected to play Vani - the eldest of the three sisters in 'Kasamh Se'."
Destiny
"Sheer good luck has brought me here. I have never acted before. But I nurtured dreams of becoming an actor since childhood. Many talented people struggle an entire lifetime and here the role fell into my lap. The role is such that every parent would feel happy about their daughter enacting it."
First day
"I was nervous and scared. My co-actors helped me. The first scene was between the three sisters with me trying to control them. Though I am the youngest in my family, I play the eldest here. Even Roshni Chopra and Arunima Sharma who play my younger sisters are elder to me in real life."
Vani's plus
"It's her simplicity and goodness. I wouldn't have been able to play Pia or Rano. I love Vani's character. In real life such melodrama never happens. It is helping me grow as a person. It is fun being Vani.
Co-star equation
"All of us share a good rapport. The best scenes are those between us three. Pia is vivacious and hip-hop whereas Rano is the insecure kid. We relate like actual sisters would. Though they are elder to me, I boss around. Off- screen they pamper me. Both of them are equally close to me."
Naman Shaw (Pushkar)
"We gel well since both of us are newcomers. We share a comfort zone. Both of us were apprehensive and then overwhelmed by the response."
On-the-sets romance
"No way! It's just hard work. Flirting doesn't interest me. I want to concentrate on my work. I may sound boring but that's the truth."
Balaji
"Ekta is so encouraging and contrary to popular perception, has never scolded me. She makes it a point to call us up and congratulate us on our performances. Sandiip Sikcand (creative head) and Anil V Kumar (director) have been pillars of strength. I wish every girl who debuts on TV starts with Balaji Productions."
First thrill
"We made sure we packed-up early that day to watch the telecast. My father called me up to say how proud he was of me."
Dream Role
"Vani is the dream role any debutant would die for. She is as big as Jassi. I would love to play Paro of 'Devdas' too. She haunts me."
Favourite characters
"I enjoyed watching 'Kahin to Hoga' for Aamna Shariff's character. I also like Saloni of 'Saat Phere' for being so gutsy and in control."
