She will never be a bankable commercial bollywood actress and the outdone bollywood stars will never be known in hollywood - they each have their own place. None of the hollywood stars can make it big in Bollywood and vice versa -that is the truth we can all agree uponl 😛
I really dont think she is all that she is made out to be and no I will not sing her praises just because she made it in Hollywood. She saw an opportunity and made good use of it - how is it any different than say Katrina Kaif who made it in Bollywood? Yet we diss our own and glorify what hollywood accepts
I agree the Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a great movie - really enjoyed a hollywood blockbuster after a long time. And no it can never be remade in Bollywood thank heavens for that 😆

what i meant is that every indian who has tried to break into hollywood mainstream has failed... Freida has gone beyond all of them... i don't think any hollywood star is interested in bollywood.

She did. As you've said it yourself, she never really "got" his humour, which led her to take some of the things he said way too seriously and get overtly defensive.

I have a problem with SOME Indians (such as yourself) and with SOME Indian customs.

I have a problem with Indians:

a) Who feel some irrational fear of everything Western
b) Who brook no legitimate criticism of India or Indian customs or Indians
c) Who are froth in the mouth whenever anything negative is said about India
d) Who don't understand humour
e) Who have zero sensitivity for other cultures
f) Who, in fact, go one step further and PATRONISE other cultures
g) Who wallow in some false notion of victimhood and colonial oppression
h) Who cling on to regressive cultural practices like the caste system or forced marriages
i) Who value a male child more than they value a female child
j) Who opt for sex selective abortion
k) Who do not value women's equality
l) Who try to impose their own parochial cultural views on everyone else
m) Who judge other people based on the morality they've subscribed to.
n) Who fear liberals and libertarians.
o) Who cling on to antediluvian notions of male-female interaction and sexual practices
p) Who obsess over fair skin

And I could go on ad-nauseam. Now I'm not suggesting you are all of the above, but just to give you a taste of things I loathe about Indians and Indian customs. There are things I like as well, but there are a lot of things which I think are rubbish.

Freida shuns Indians? How exactly?

She was the one who was shunned by the Indian movie industry because she wasn't "pretty" enough and "fair" enough. FFS!

Well, the prequel was made on a 80m budget, so one presumes this was made on an 80m budget as well. Especially, considering sequels often enjoy a bigger budget than the predecessors.

Duh. He's Gurinder Chadda's husband. 😃

Oh I dunno, I think everyone who watched SM knew who she was. And you know what, it's better to have a small role in a movie which millions all over the world watch than have a meaty role in a movie no one watches. It's about exposure.

Besides, she did appear in a few scenes in Rise of Apes. Not totally blink and miss, then.

But she has done sex scenes in Indian movies as well. As for nudity, there is no overt, full-frontal nudity in most big-budget Hollywood movies because the film then won't be eligible for a PG- 13 rating. Nudity is only seen in serious dramas - Oscar bait films, and she was never in contention for any serious drama.

Indians have problem with everything. 😆 this is a gold post. it reminded me of the time when the kids behind me in one of my class started talking bad about me because I was eating pepperoni pizza.

Firstly, these are NOT Indian "customs". Things like sex selective abortion are illegal in India. I'm not saying that doesn't happen, it does, but it happens illegally all over the world. Why the personal agenda against India then?

And you even have a problem with people who don't get humour, so I can't even take this "list" seriously.

Really? Then I wonder how dusky actresses like Bipasha made it big? It's not like if you are fair and pretty you get a free ticket to the top (there are so many actresses who come under that category but failed to make a mark here).

And Freida was picked for Slumdog not because they found her pretty or something. They picked her because she fit the bill of a girl from the slums.

One can presume so if the prequel did exceedingly well. But it didn't as expected so they cut short their budget and made the sequel too a successful venture. What's the point of making a sequel then?

He is American. How does getting married to an Indian make him Indian?

Sex scenes in Indian movies? Like those where the moment the action begins they get transported into mountains singing songs? As for Shabd, it got a U/A from the Censor board, so you can judge if it was a sex scene of what level. And I'm clearly not talking about that level.
