Shiney Ahuja rape case: Victim not to face perjury charges

In a major relief to the 20-year-old maid, who accused Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja of raping her but later turned hostile, Maharashtra police has decided not to press perjury charges against her.

"We have decided that we will not press any perjury charges against her as she has already suffered enough and now needs to be pardoned," police sources said.

Despite the maid turning hostile on September 8, 2010, a Sessions Court here, relying on circumstantial evidence, convicted Shiney on March 30 and awarded him seven-years rigorous imprisonment.

The maid had told the court that Shiney had not raped her and she had filed the complainant at somebody's behest.

Shiney's appeal against his conviction is pending in the Bombay High Court and the actor is presently out on bail.

In June 2009, the victim had lodged a police complaint alleging that she was raped by the actor at his house. Shiney was arrested on June 14.

The chargesheet in the case, which included the statement of several witnesses, forensic reports and other documentary evidence, was filed by police on August 2009.
