Part 140: Words for Tomorrow

Time was ticking by and the sun was shining brightly straight above the head. Rohini brought the dishes that she prepared earlier , to haweli.

Sushma: why?

Rohini: anyway I cooked and told you already no need to make anything here.

Sushma: see Suchi bhabhi also did the cooking and ...

Rohini: its ok Sushma, we all are here na, at the end the dishes will be clean and empty, you see

Sushma: whatever, ...but where is Suchi?

Lechu came listening to their talk: mom is with Bro and dad in their room, I think Bro is discussing something seriously

Surender: even I am also not feeling comfortable to leave them alone , let me think for a minute...

Suchi: anyway just one more week , right?

Dev: ha mom. Let see what the doctor's have to say. Dadaji is still on activity restrictions and buva alone won't be able to reach everywhere for dadaji

Surender: I understand that. What if I stay back, you all can go, that will be fine with me

Dev: but dad, you may have to cancel meetings and all, and also the Australia trip is coming , right?

Suchi with a smile; Dad is planning to send you for that

Dev: me!!!, how come, I have no clue about it

Suchi: that you ask your dad only. He is preparing the files and all quickly, saying to give that responsibility once you get there

Dev: oh dad, I don't think I can get it that esily, anyway you worked for it and you know it better, then why to make it a disaster at the end by giving in my hand

Surender: how can you predict it will be a disaster, I know your potential, and i am proud the way you work , and know how efficient you are, then?

Dev: not like that Dad, see, now I need to start from the basic on that project, and this is a vital meeting with the proceedings, so I don't want to interfere with its flow.

Suchi again with a smile: no dear, your dad was dreaming of spending time with CHudki, and now if you are coming a week later, then

Dev, after a thought : who said they need to stay back. He walked near to his mom and wrapping his arms around his mom's shoulder: actually it is not only dad's wish, it is yours too , right?. Missing your grand kid.

Suchi didn't say anything, just stood there in his embrace.

Dev looked at Surender's anxious face to know his answer, and Dev saw their anticipation

With a smile he added: don't worry mom, Radhika and chudki coming with you guys, and I will join you guys later, ok.

Suchi with a smile: are you sure?

Dev: um, why not, let me see what the doctor's have to say first. Or else I need to travel up and down many times , almost on a daily basis for next three four days, and which will be impossible. So only I decided to stay back for few days while Radhika and Chudki can be there with you.

Surender: ha, beta, not a problem. Actually all because of you , we were able to move on there comfortably during these difficult times, otherwise. So maybe i will go this time to Australia,... but still there is time my son, after the check up and all ., see whether we can take babuji and sushma back to Delhi ok. Let this week go like this only. Then you can join back later also, no problem.

Suchi: see how quick he agreed

Dev saw his mom's smile along with surender's happy voice

Dev: see , that is it, now you are cared about chudki, I am secondary, right?

Suchi touching his cheek: if I say the truth, she paused for a minute to look into his eyes and said: ha beta, sach mei, I miss her than anyone else now

Dev: mom, that's not fair

Suchi: that is fair for now

They heard a knock at the door and turned to look at there

Lechu coming in: oh mom, still holding onto your son only, see not fair

Dev again tightening his hold on his mom: she is jealous mom, don't listen to her

Lechu: ha I am jealous. Sorry forgot to tell, all are waiting for you downstairs to join for lunch

Suchi: oh ya, I forgot, come let's go

Dev: Lechu, where is Radhika?

Lechu: chudki was crying loud, so now bhabhi is feeding her, they are in buva's room

Dev: ok, dad I will join you downstairs. Mom don't wait for me, ok. I need to talk to Radhika.

Suchi: ha beta

And they all walked down while Dev went to Buva's room. He closed the door behind and stepped in.

Radhika was totally immersed into looking at her baby who was peacefully sucking for her food. Radhika's fingers were softly strolling over her little ones soft hairs. Dev stood there for a second and then watched Radhika's face, and the serene look of her with a tucked smile on her lips corner.

He walked softly near to the bed, and sat over the edge without making any noise. Few minutes ticked by, Chudki took her face off and surpringly gave a smile to Radhika, looking directly into her eyes.

Radhika's face beamed: oh how cute... that is so sweet of you. Why that smile is for ? um,... are you done, um,... is your stomach is full? Is it time to burp you.. .. um, tell me, last time you cheated me, and is there anything went in ? um or simply paying around? hu? anyway let me try again, ok, come...

Radhika jerked hearing Dev's voice

Dev walked near to Radhika and tried to take his angel away

Radhika: when did you come? I didn't even

Interupting her , he said: I just came in, give her to me, let me try to burp her

Radhika: are you sure?

Dev confidently took his baby in his arms and tried to tap on her back

Dev: Radhika, she really grown big , right?

Radhika: ha, so big, maybe we can send her to school tomorrow

Dev understanding the teasing tone: Radhika

Radhika : what else, you are saying as if you are seeing her after so many days

Dev in a soft voice: maybe I will

Radhika: don't joke

Dev: No I am not, Radhika, now listen to me, ok.

Radhika with a surprised face went near him.

Dev: Radhika, Dr. Shankar talked to me the other day and he wants me to meet him tomorrow to discuss on Buva's scan results and all. Also Wednesday I need to take dadaji to the hospital for follow up check up. In between all these few village issues too , and sudev cannot handle it alone and dadaji is not in his good health to go with him. So if any more delays happen then dadaji only worry, he put all his efforts to get this done for the villagers, and I gave him my word, and I cannot walk away from it.

Radhika listened to him as he continued to tap on Chudki's back involuntarily

Dev: Ha Radhika, dad said, he will stay back, but that won't work out. You know he has so many things already planned on his way, he is asking me to handle it. That doesn't make any sense as Dad knows what suppose to be done there, and here I know what I need to do. Also dad doesn't have any clue of any of the stuff here, all he depend is on babuji. But babuji has his own things to take care, and I have Sudev who knows everything and we can manage it better. So once I settle things here I will join you all back in Delhi.

Radhika: then we can also stay back

Dev with a smile: I wish Radhika. But I am seeing dad and mom's expectations, they want to be with Chudki , Lechu told me their preparations to welcome her back home, and Sammy also kind of mentioned to me how much dad has tone down at work too. So here it may be another few days and then it all will get settled soon. And I can be there with you.

Radhika: why don't we take dadaji and Buva with us?

Dev: good question. Maybe you know dadaji from your childhood... and I have been with him very little compared to that. But during this smaller period, even i have seen and heard so much from him, his silence also talked to me , he maybe smiling at me,but that is make me feel comfortable, he will never ask for anything, he will never complain... and I know dadaji now, he will happily refuse that option and he will say he can manage it here. He won't come Radhika leaving his plans on half way. Especially it is at its end stage so once we get all the paper work done, then everything will go fine. After that if we ask then dadaji may agree, i mean there is some hope. And when dadaji won't come then naturally buva won't come, and more than anything I feel like they will do better here Radhika, than in Delhi house. So maybe one or two weeks, let see once I settle the villagers issue; So

after a pause, Dev in his deep voice: did you get me what I am trying to say?

Radhika with a smile kept her hand over his shoulder: um, I know, and I understand you. I was seeing you running around for everything here, and so only I asked you yesterday whether you are worried about the trip today, but you divert my talk by changing the subject. See I was right , heina?

Dev: No radhika, I was worried about Dadaji and buva, that is right, as I don't want to leave them just like this, and at the same time I was seeing the happiness in mom and dad's face too. So, only option left for me was this, but I didn't want to spoil our time discussing about it at that moment, so only

Radhika held his upper arm circling her arms around it closely and then resting back on his arm she said: we will wait for you. Come back quick

Dev stood there listening to her words, still tapping on Chudki's back.

Time ticked by. Everyone was sitting in the front room. Lechu was into the album which she found on the corner of the dining room, and was curiously looking at her dad's younger face and was commenting loud.

Suddenly something click on Radhika's mind, she went and took the album from Lechu and then coming near Dev, she opened it.

Radhika: I totally forgot about it, let me show you a picture, tell me you can see any similarity , ok.

She opened each page but the page that she was looking for was not found

Radhika in doubt turned it again and again and then she said: it was here only, i saw it , but now

Dev: what?

Radhika: nothing and she looked around for Sushma

But then Dev' remembered something and he asked: Radhika

Radhika: um

Dev: is this the album where you found dad's photo and then tried to draw that picture of mine

Radhika skipped a beat and she looked at those pictures, and remembered sushma showing the picture to little radhika and telling "your prince will be a shadow of this picture"

"Radhika"

She jerked listening to Dev's voice

Dev: bolona

Radhika: ji

Dev: which one, let me see

He interestingly started looking at his dad's picture, not so many but very few and he saw his dadi's picture and beautiful young buva, his eyes sparkled looking through it.

Surender: Suchi, let's start

Suchi: ha we are ready

Dev kissed his little angel's cheek and said: I will join you soon ok, till then you take care of your mamma

Radhika: ha, she will take care of me, but you take care of Dadaji and buva ok

Dev smiled listening to her. As they walked out radhika said: I don't know what did I felt when I used to come this haweli, all I know is I was eager to come here, and spend most of the day here inside and outside this big building, but now you are staying back here, and I am leaving my heart behind for you to listen to its beat, and will wait for you to come back.

Dev just wrapped his left arm around her holding her sideways and as they went near the car, he opened the door for her. She sat in and soon they drove away. He looked at that moving vehicle but she did not turn back once, he smiled as it disappeared from his sight and said: somewhere you are still my old radhika, and I want to see you back in that spirit,.

...You said few things to me, but I know you left so much gap in between, yes you came here eagerly but to listen to stories, and then munching onto that sweets that buva made, your eyes were trying to see my face, maybe a beautfiful dream...

So now Radhika and Chudki are in Delhi and Dev in Chandenpur-----😔; but as Dev said, this won't be for long---

Dev now really understands Radhika and can see a glimpse of old Radhika back...Dev has come a long way in his understanding and his support will bring Radhika back to her old self...

as now dev stayed in chanden pur i think the past which sushma worried about comes back and also not only dev but i am also eagerly waiting for our old naughty princess the cute radhika please bring her back soon di. an loved dev in this part a lot
