'I consider the look change as a bonus' - Sargun Mehta

Tuesday, December 21, 2010 | 7:19:46 PM IST (+05:30 GMT) 4 CommeAfter playing the bubbly, lively and at times childish character Neetu in Sudhir Sharma's 12/24 Karol Bagh, Sargun Mehta is now back with Zee TV again in a new avatar in Apno ke liye Geeta ka Dharmyudh.

Tellybuzz had a hearty conversation with the actor about her new show and on Karol Bagh going off air.

Enjoy the excerpts!!!

How were you selected for the show?
I was called for auditions after Karol Bagh and I got through the role. I never thought I could make it, but I am glad to have got the role.

This is your first show as the solo main lead, how do you feel?
I feel amazing to work on this role which is different from Neetu in Karol Bagh.

You are doing the title role; were you nervous?
I was very nervous because I decided to do this show when I had two or three other options in hand. This is one show where basically the eyes are on you and I am still nervous about the show. But till now, the response has been good. Neetu in Karol Bagh was very outspoken , an attribute I could connect myself to and that made me feel comfortable. But later on the character changed in outlook where it was calm and composed that was opposite of my real self.

How is the experience working with a production company like Shreya Creations?
The experience has been great till now because I have just worked for more than a month with them now. We have a good time on the sets and the co-actors are all very cooperative. Urvashi and I have been together for press conferences and now we are like a family.

Your looks have gone thro' a makeover for the show; were you apprehensive?
Not at all, in fact I consider it a big bonus that I am undergoing a look change. I liked the idea of makeover because I did not want to do another Neetu in television and was looking for a different character.

What was your reaction when you heard that 12/24 Karol Bagh was going off air?
We had shot in Delhi for Karol Bagh where the lifestyle is completely different from Mumbai and the whole crew was like a family to me wherein we really became brothers and sisters. We also had a Karol Bagh get-together where everyone had come including the Producer and Director. We all felt bad with the show going off air, but at the same time you have to move on and I am a little practical on that.

Have you come across any person who has undergone domestic violence by the in laws?
I did not personally meet anyone who has undergone this difficulty but I have read a lot about it. During my academic career I have been into street plays and drama wherein I enacted about this social crime.

New shows are scheduled in the early evenings; do you think that the prime time slot is gradually changing?
The prime time slot keeps changing. In the beginning we thought the slot as 10 to 11 were the best, and then it changed to a slot after 9 and today there are shows that do well in the slot of 8 to 9 or even in a slot earlier than that. It is a delusional concept that people do not watch shows outside the prime time slot.

What were the challenges when you transported from Neetu to Geeta?
All aspects of Geeta were a challenge because the character is completely different in looks, the body language and even the aura. When I was Neetu I just had to be myself and I could easily connect to the character because I myself am from Delhi. But Geeta is a girl who I have to portray forgetting myself and it took really a bit time for me to sink into the character. It is not as easy as we think and we have to be really careful in that.

In both your shows there has been a caring brother for you, how has the relation been with Kanan Malhotra and Wasim Mushtaq?
Wasim and I have been really close in Karol Bagh and as I said earlier, we all had become like a family doing the show. With Kanan, I have just started working and the association has been good till now.

Who do you relate more to; Neetu or Geeta?
I relate myself to Neetu because the role was close to what I am in real, which is really bubbly and the real Delhiaite. But later on the character underwent a change and became more mature and serious which is a bit opposite of mine.

This your second show with Zee TV, any particular reason?
When the show was offered to me, I did not have to give a second thought because I knew the channel, and the people here are really very nice and helpful.

In Karol Bagh it was the story of sisters, and here we see good sibling chemistry with Geeta and her brothers. How was it to portray it?
I felt really great portraying it, and actually I did not have to portray that because it came out naturally for me. I too have cousins and the chemistry amongst us is very cordial and that naturally came out while playing in Geeta.

Now that you have shifted to Mumbai, what do you miss the most being a Delhite?
In the beginning I really had problems with shifting myself to Mumbai with all movers and shakers. I miss the food in Delhi, the Delhi momos, the kakori kabab and all the real Delhi food

Sargun Mehta back on Zee with Shreya Creation's next..

Sargun Mehta who essayed the role of Neetu to perfection in Zee TV's 12/24 Karol Bagh has bagged yet another meaty role on the same channel!!

As per the recent buzz, Sargun has been chosen as the channel's choice to play the female lead in Shreya Creation's upcoming show on Zee TV.

TellyBuzz had recently reported about Nisha Rawal, Karan Mehra's fianc playing the female lead in the same show. We now hear that while Nisha will play the negative lead, Sargun Mehta has bagged the main lead's role. The show apparently will have two male leads.

The yet untitled show is said to have a UP backdrop, wherein the story line is a vengeful love story of the male protagonist.

Many big names including Shaleen Bhanot and Vipul Roy have been approached for the male lead's role. But nothing is finalized as of now. It is expected to go on floors by the second week of November.

We tried contacting Sargun Mehta to know about her new show, but she refused to comment.

We also hear that Nisha Rawal who is looking for her first big break in television is also contemplating whether to take up this role or not, as it has a negative shade to it. Apparently, the girl has got lot many offers in her kitty and might decide to take the best.

However, our source clarifies that Sargun Mehta has been finalized to play the female lead.

We wish Sargun a great second innings with Zee TV..

Here comes the Rain...

Tuesday, August 31, 2010 | 6:40:21 PM IST (+05:30 GMT) Here comes the Rain...

Rains have got our actors romantic, and here they are in their best of moods, as they share their rainy experiences with us and much more...

These days the Almighty has been generously pouring his love on his beloved humans in the form of heavy rains, or to say in a complete reporting style 'It's been raining Cats and Dogs in Mumbai' since two days now….

While people who love rains are making the best out of it, for those who find the rainy days to be an obstacle to the daily routine of work, it is the good old nursery rhyme 'Rain Rain go Away, Come again Another Day'….that holds good!!

Here are the telly actors talking about their love/hatred for rain, and on their 'rainy' experience!!

Ankur Nayyar:

First thing that comes to your mind when I say rains:
It reminds me of my first date in Pathankot. It was raining heavily; I parked my car under a tree and a lake beside. I proposed her and to my luck she said a 'Yes'. It's a memorable moment for me.

Favorite Rain song: As of now I can just think of 'rain is falling chama cham cham' though it's not my favorite song and in a bit seducing genre I would say 'Tip Tip Barsa Paani' (smiles).

Do you like rains in Mumbai: I would say I am liking it this season.

Do you believe in the notion 'Rains are romantic' and why: Yes I do believe in the notion because I like the season, mainly because my first date happened in heavy rains (smiles).

And apart from that I just love getting wet in the rains. Recently I went to Carter Road at 2 in the night and got wet sitting on top of my car; it was a blissful feeling.

What would you love to eat on a rainy day: How about Pakodas with cutting chai (Tea).

And if you had to cook something: I would cook Maggi (laughs).

Manish Raisinghani:

First thing that comes to your mind when I say rains: Pune, as I hail from there. Secondly, in Mumbai when we see up towards the sky, the sight is amazing, but down it is full of potholes and puddles.

Favorite Rain song: Title track of Hum Tum

Do you like rains in Mumbai: I love the rains anywhere but in Mumbai, rains comes with a package with traffic and puddles. So I like rains, but not the package.

Do you believe in the notion 'Rains are romantic' and why: Indeed it is because the weather gets so beautiful. I enjoy sitting on the window looking at the pouring rain, clean buildings and the smell of mud.

What would you love to eat on a rainy day: I'm a foodie, so would love to have anything chat pata. (spicy).

And if you had to cook something: I would cook Omlet as it's the safest risk I can take in cooking (laughs).

Karan Mehra:

First thing that comes to your mind when I say rains: Nice weather, a mood to relax and have pakodas made by my mother. Also due to busy schedules I hardly get time to relax these days, so pakodas cooked by my mom is the best thing to have on a rainy day.

Favorite Rain song: 'Kaali Megha' from the movie Laagan.

Do you like rains in Mumbai: I'm liking it this time because even after getting such heavy rains, the drainage system seems to have held off.

Do you believe in the notion 'Rains are romantic' and why: Yes of course and not because we see Bollywood hero-heroines dancing in the rains, but because the very weather makes you feel nice.

What would you love to eat on a rainy day: Pakodas

And if you had to cook something: Pudia it's a special Punjabi dish.

Dimple Jhangiani:

First thing that comes to your mind when I say rains: Holiday

Favorite Rain song: On the roof in the rain from the movie Masti.

Do you like rains in Mumbai: Yeah definitely but to a limit.

Do you believe in the notion 'Rains are romantic' and why: Yes 100% because you feel romantic when you go out and get wet.

What would you love to eat on a rainy day: Corn and nice hot coffee.

And if you had to cook something: Pakodas or anything hot (smiles).

Ashita Dhawan:

First thing that comes to your mind when I say rains:
Beauty

Favorite Rain song: Tip Tip Barsa Paani

Do you like rains in Mumbai: I love it however heavily they pour.

Do you believe in the notion 'Rains are romantic' and why: Yes but I feel Rains in Lonavala are more romantic.

What would you love to eat on a rainy day: Onion Pakoda and hot tea.

And if you had to cook something: Anything my husband wishes to have.

Sargun Mehta:

First thing that comes to your mind when I say rains: Paper Boats.

Favorite Rain song: Tip Tip Tip Baarish Shuru Ho gaye…

Do you like rains in Mumbai: I have never been in Mumbai during rains.

Do you believe in the notion 'Rains are romantic' and why: They are totally romantic and more because of the cliche Bollywood rain scenes.

What would you love to eat on a rainy day: Cheese Maggi and hot coffee.

And if you had to cook something: The same Cheese Maggi (smiles).

Manit Joura who was earlier seen in Star Plus' Aaja Mahi Vay will play the love interest of Neetu in Zee TV's Karol Bagh..

Zee TV's 12/24 Karol Bagh, produced by Sunshine Productions will see the entry of a guy in the life of Neetu Sethi, played by Sargun Mehta.

According to our source, "A relatively new face to television, Manit Joura will play the love interest of Neetu in the show".

Manit Joura was earlier seen on television in the Star Plus reality show, Aaja Mahi Vay where he partnered Manika Dandha. The guy later took part in the Gladrags Megamodel Manhunt 2008. Elaborating on Vicky's character, our source states, "Vicky is a very confident macho man with a great physique. Neetu and Vicky bump into each other in an event, and it is kind of love at first sight for Neetu. Neetu will basically learn a lot of lessons as this relationship blossoms. Not much has been decided on the future story line though".

We called Manit Joura, who said, "Yes, I have been in talks with them. But I have not started shoot yet, so cannot tell anything as of now".

Ravi Dubey enters in Neetu's life in 12/24 Karol Bagh..

Wednesday, February 03, 2010 | 5:53:13 PM IST (+05:30 GMT) Ravi Dubey enters in Neetu's life in 12/24 Karol Bagh..

With Vicky getting arrested and the whole family getting to know of Neetu's pregnancy, Zee TV's 12/24 Karol Bagh will have a new entry in Ravi Dubey...

It's time for some high-voltage drama in Zee TV and Sunshine Productions' 12/24 Karol Bagh!! While on one hand, there is a big question mark lingering on whether the wedding of Simi (Smriti Kalra) and Abhi (Neil Bhatt) will happen or not, Neetu (Sargun Mehta) and Vicky (Manit Joura) on the other hand have fallen into deeper problem after getting caught by police when they tried to elope.

With Vicky getting arrested by the police for stealing money, Neetu's life is at a crossroad, what with her family getting to know of her pregnancy.

At this juncture, will arrive a new guy in the life of Neetu. According to our source, "Ravi Dubey who was earlier seen in Zee TV's Ranbir aur Rano will be entering 12/24 Karol Bagh very soon. He happens to be Nakul's brother, and will fall for Neetu at first sight", informs our source.

When contacted, Ravi Dubey confirmed the news and said, "Yes, I am part of Karol Bagh. I am very excited to be part of this show. I have not got an opportunity till now to explore myself as an actor, but in 12/24 Karol Bagh audience will get to see more of me. I essay the character of a simple guy Omi, but cannot reveal more than this".

Our source further informs us, "Omi unlike Nakul is very studious and is a simpleton. The script regarding the future of Vicky has not been decided yet. But as for now, he will be shown to be in jail. The focus for few episodes will be on Omi, and as the story unfolds, there will be a love triangle between Vicky-Neetu-Omi".

We talked to Manit Joura aka Vicky who said, "I am not shooting for Karol Bagh as of now. So I don't know what is happening there. As of now, Vicky has been arrested and a new guy is being introduced, that's all I know".

When contacted, Producer Sudhir Sharma told us, "Ravi Dubey will be the new guy in Neetu's life. There is a possibility of a love triangle between Vicky, Neetu and the new character".

Let's brace ourselves for more gripping drama now...

Actress Sargun Mehta has been roped in to replace child star Jannat Zubair Rahmani as the protagonist in Colors' show Phulwa.

The show is set to take a 10-year-leap and Sargun will play the older Phulwa, who turns into a female dacoit.

"I am very excited about this role. It is my privilege that I've been chosen to play a grown-up Phulwa. The role has a lot of potential," said the actress who was last seen in Zee TV's Apno Ke Liye Geeta Ka Dharamyudh.

"It's not every day that one gets to play a female dacoit who has gone through a lot of trials and tribulations and has now chosen to blaze her own trail in a manner she thinks fit. It is a very strong character and I hope I'm able to do justice to it,' she added.
