Recently I have noticed that members, new or old, may make comments which are truly constructive criticisms of the actors, characters, creatives, the channel etc but these members are then treated like pariahs because of it.

I have always thought that forums such as IF, of which I have been a member for many years although not that active, was a medium to discuss a show/actors etc we love. Our opinions do not necessarily have to be positive all the time and as long as members do not use abusive language, personally attack the actors or anyone they have a right to provide constructive feedback on any aspect of the show.

I mean even on her facebook page I have told Niv that the past few weeks viewers have noticed a coldness, a lack of emotions and eye contact with Himmanshoo not befitting Runjhun's character. Gunjhun interactions at times looked like brother and sister than husband and wife exploring their relationship, discovering love.

I mean actors are people too and obviously go through personnal turmoil, have bad days etc which can effect their performance. That is acceptable but because they are entertainers they should also expect criticism…and I don't mean abuse…but viewers notice when things are amiss with actors because it is reflective in their performance. I think both Himmanshoo and Nivedita are professional enough to handle constructive criticism without taking it a personnal attack so why should members who criticize be treated like pariahs.

This type of behavior alienates members which will effect forum activity as well as ultimately the show.

A forum is not for the few but for the many to openly express opinions without retaliation.

If IF rules have changed someone please let me know so that I don't criticize the channel, creatives and especially the actors, and post my opinions even if against the majority, which basically means I should stop posting!

I sincerely hope that is not the case because I love this show, the actors, the story and especially love discussing it here on IF with the many intellectual members who make such insightful posts and have such diverse opinions!

Nina

P. S. This post is not targeted at any particular member so I hope no one takes it personally.

I personally believe this is a very open and inviting forum. Everyone is open to express their views as long as it is done respectfully. We all have disagreed or agreed with each others opinions and viewpoints as the show has progressed. (Gardes and I disagree on many topics but that is good for discussion in my opinion)

I have not noticed people being treated like outcasts so maybe it is a misunderstanding. Personally I believe that if someone posts something that is not popular then people will read the comment and then move on. Not all posts get the same response and sometimes people do not have a comment or response to someone's posts but that does not mean that someone is being treated like an outcast. I have posted many threads where I got one or two responses but never did I feel that I was treated like a pariah.

I agree to both posts above.
Some time I dont like coming to forum coz people are just complaining about the show. they dont say anything else just one line that the show was not good. No discussion no wish what they want insted just negetive to the serial.
But I let it be!!! Since I do not agree i do not comment and it is hard to say otherwise on the same thread.

About Runjhun when I say I do not like or like her character I do give asolid reason for that. That is what I would appriciate from others too. I dont mind people having different opinion then mine but just say it in a way we discuss things here.

When I dont agree with a staement I just ignore that thread or post. I think others do the same.

I do agree with you here because I am a very new member and to be very honest BBAT is truly one of the first serials that I have followed from the start. I have been on and off the forum and I have enjoyed all the discussions because it's sometimes guide my thinking on the show; meaning I may be so hell bent on one thought or even one character that sometimes my attention span of a gnat or tunnel vision will not allow me to see the bigger picture and here is where I get clarity. For instance my take and view is that the Character of Guddu have gotten way to soft...but that is my view and for instance I think Rhunjun should just get on/over with it because I don't have alot of patience on my part. Then I come here and read a lovely piece Gardes had written on her and think we'll she has a point and grumble to my self...:) but I think it's all in good fun and we all have to agree to disagree at times.😊

With all due respect
There are many issues and that is why people post less. Look at the decrease in numbers over the last month. People are connected to actors/actresses and have personal agenda in defending show. These people shut down other views----. Just because you are friends with actor/actress—people still have right to different views on acting. People in development team should not just hit Like at only their friends post. I never saw this. So unfair. In respect--we can critique acting
It is not nice. ---- As I said --look at people who are posting less or disappeared over last six weeks.--- That is proof.--- The show is not as good---but forum has no free speech. Discussion now is lacking. I am Russian and have been silent but read everything. I got my ID for the first time yesterday. Sick of politics of a nice forum. To my Russian Friends:

This forum is not an open forum...it run by me and my dictatorship...so if you say anything against me and the actors I will banish you all...

My bad jokes aside...Technically this is an open forum but limited by rules and regulations. If it was an open forum, people would have been able to freely discuss anything they want without any restraints. Having said that this forum is open about encouraging discussions. It's how relationships on this forum have been formed. ( Here I talk exclusively about Bhagonwali)

For those claiming the development team only likes their friends' post shall I take offense here because I am part of the development team...? Am I being accused here?

Criticism is a funny thing...it is attached with such a negative connotation that we have to attach "constructive" in front of it to make it sound positive. In my opinion it is a sword that cuts either way and depends on how you react to the cut.

It's funny how people who give criticism are often the ones that can not take criticism from others. If your view on the forum is "constructively criticized" or rebuffed then does it necessarily make you an outcast? You have full rights to defend your opinion as the other has to rebuke it. So what if you're the only one. You have all the right to fight it

I have watched this show from the beginning...when people here criticized Runjhun's and Guddu's character to no end. The popular arguments were that Runjhun is a typical crying heroine without a backbone, and Guddu is ruthless in his revenge, making him a tough character to like. I defended Guddu & Runjhun's characteristics then too, even when I was the only one who felt that way. Gardes and I argued once on what kind of message this show gave to women. (Gardes I'm going to use you...since we've had our disagreements and yet through it all we've retained a friendship)

I didn't defend the show because I was in good graces with the actors or actress, I didn't even know them. Yes they are talented actors but I wasn't drawn to the show because of them...I was drawn to the show because of what it represented.

Gardes and I would consider ourselves friends but there are many times I disagree with her opinion of the show and vice versa. It is similar with all the friends I've made on this forum. Sometimes I don't agree with a certain view so unless I feel very strongly I don't confront it. I rather just ignore the posts.

Today too I stand in the same place. There are many people who are against Runjhun's characterization, same way there were many people against Guddu's characterization to begin with. Since I've watched the show from start I've seen the ups and downs this show has. I've known some of them started watching the show for Himmanshoo and have stuck because they liked the story line. Some still just watch to see him. There are some who watch the show for the story line and have stuck through. There are few who watch because they like the actors and enjoy watching it despite the fall in the story.

The reason for decreased posts might be due to frustration, who have stopped watching and not because any one in the forum was bullied to believe something a certain way. I myself post less in the forum than I used to. If I like someone or something I will defend it regardless of who feels what about it. I have never forced anyone to believe certain way and I don't take kindly to others doing it either. If you don't like the actor or character that is your view, and you're entitled to it as long as you don't bash them. There is a difference between character and actor though and often people forget that while and actor might personalize a character that character is still a character and not a definition of the actor.

Today it is Runjhun's character some people have issues with, tomorrow it might be Guddu again. I've always defended their characters and I will continue to do it even if I am the only one.

If someone doesn't like your post they won't respond to it. Doesn't make you a outcast. You're free to express yourself and sometimes you might be the only one standing there making a point, but as long as you believe in it, it doesn't matter what others think. Sometimes we get acceptance of our views sometimes we don't. I don't begrudge anyone else for not having my opinions even when I'm in the single digits. After all not everyone can be as smart as I am (for those who are offended I'm kidding...I have my dull moments)

Having said that...to all newbies you're welcome to share your views...and I don't bite...even if you don't like what I say...to those newbies who just post to instigate and rarely take part in any discussion other than to argue...I don't like you (is this open enough a forum for me to say this as part of a development team?)...but you're welcome to your views as well...I won't bite you promise...

If anyone here feels threatened or pigeon-holed by popular opinion you're welcome to let me know...It is my job to ensure that everyone is at ease in this forum...if someone doesn't respond to your post...it isn't considered a threat but if someone purposefully tells you you suck for having a particular opinion (as in bashing you for being a constructive critic) then I will take care of them (keeping in the limits of rules and regulations...I won't do anything illegal here)

So "constructive criticism" of "constructive criticism" is okay...because after all it is "constructive" ! (Did I just make that clear or did I just confuse people further?)

Just the conversation makes me sad a little bit. I remember having an exchange on this topic with Nureat a while back on the forum.

In the academic profession, everyone feels free to criticize the book, the author, the author's influences, the issues in the book, the characters, plot, writing, style of writing, use of metaphor etc. I have sat with an author and openly critiqued her writing style. It is a given in that line of work and this type conversation would never even happen.

@Nina, I have never once read the forum rules, because I just figure if I treat other people on the forum like I do my colleagues and neighbors I should be fine.

I remember on the last forum I was on, there was a person called KoolSadu. Me and her NEVER agreed on anything and we would go back and forth on that forum. Sometimes we had marathon debates over the characters, story, acting in scenes and everything. I admit too that she bothered me at times with her sharp observations.

While I hardly agreed with her, I have nothing but the absolute regard for her. The only reason I spent so much time debating with Koolsadu is because I respected her fierce intellect. This is one smart person. I see her still on other forums and respect her still for her courage to voice her unpopular views.

Sometimes when I would go back and forth with Koolsadu, she would have a group of people that normally agreed with her. That was fine. One thing, I always respected about Koolsadu and the people that agreed with her was that they would hit the "Like" button on my post, even when they disagreed. And I would do the same. No matter how much I disagreed with Kools, she would hit the "Like" button on the post. So would the people that agreed with her. I would also not be selective, but hit Like on all the posts that had to do generally with the topic that I was engaged in. To me it was like looking someone in the eye when they talk to you: a marker of simple respect for a colleague/peer. It went a long way to creating great debate.

It was a simple gesture, but sealed to this day the high regard that I have for Kools. The Like button was not used selectively in the thread by those who agree with her, but was a simple acknowledgment that although we did not see eye to eye, all on the thread respected my opinion and hers. Or at least we all respected each others' time it takes to write and the right to do so.

This point is not meant to be directed at anyone here; so please do not take it as such, but just an example for me of a memorable intellectual debate that has no negative associations. I am just sharing.

I also remember talking about the lead actor' lack of dancing skills. We loved him, but still joked around about his stiffness. I remember it was a collegic and compatible forum to be in. We even had a thread that gave the actor's tips each day on their dressing styles. We had lots of good natured fun picking apart the clothes and complimenting them.

My point is here is just to share some thoughts on experiences that I have had, again not to direct any comments to anyone, as intellectual freedom is a topic near and dear to my heart.

PS. My next step is to send this thread to Kools:)

Hi Guys

JP sent me this thread and I looked it up and was pleasantly surprised to see such a wonderful discussion . The cherry on the icing was the fact that someone with whom I had many debates in the past in CB forum ...Someone who stood opposite me and argued with me , as an opponent in debate , remembered me with so much respect and fondness as we both shared something in common ... the sheer love of PURE DEBATE .

Thank you JP .🤗

PURE DEBATE or HEALTHY DEBATE is my passion . I think I share that love with JP or she would never have remembered me this way .

I have had a long stint on IF . I love watching TV shows , movies , dance programs ...any work of ART and expressing my views on them .

What I love most however is expressing them FEARLESSLY .

I always am in the minority as I am not with the popular view 90% of the time . 😊 What to do ...its my nature . As I watch a TV serial , I always end up thinking even from the villain's point of view . All the point of views interest me . I like seeing how the STORY proceeds and being a fan of any lead or actor or actress is simply not in my nature .

90% of the viewers on IF are fans of some celebrity or the other . Only 10% watch the serials simply for the story . These 10% hesitate to give their views and prefer to be silent readers as they are AFRAID to voice their views .

AFRAID Why ? Coz the fans will jump on them and tear them to shreds for simply voicing an opinion .

I go ahead and voice it . As a result I am afraid I am very Popular and unpopular BOTH whenever i leave a forum .😊

I Hate it when a voice is suppressed . I really do not care if that opinion is agreeable to me or not . To me its simply that ...an opinion . It has to be heard and it HAS to be voiced fearlessly .

My long stint as a silent reader made me come to a decision . I noticed that only views praising the leads were there majorly in the forums . Why are there such few OTHER point of views ? I often wondered as I fished for them . I then understood ...FEAR .

What if I don't care and express my views anyway , I wondered . At the most what will happen ? They will jump on me . Complaints will go to the mods and the worst outcome may be That one day I will be BANNED .

Well let them . Will speak my mind EXACTLY as I wish to , without breaking IF rules .

And so began my stint on IF . I am still around 😆😆😆 and I think by the time I leave a forum , I succeed in making Many come forward to voice their views without being afraid of fandom . I never even realised that My posts had that effect ...I understood it when I received a load of pms TELLING me that .

Kools when you left , we just stopped posting our views .

Kools come back na . No OTher view is left now .

Kools When ARE you coming back ?

A number of SILENT readers came forward . They all formed ids and hesitatingly started posting in my threads , initially just a line of Agreement or disagreement and later , paragraphs that could be called mini essays .

This was not EASY .

People are under the misconception that open forums are platforms for Fandom only .

Open Forums like IF are actually platforms for VOICING ALL VIEWS .

Creatives peep in these forums for feedback . And if the moderation is wrong and if only POPULAR views are allowed , they do NOT get to see their mistakes .

The Unpopular view is not necessarily for spreading negativity as I was once accused of in BMTD forum .

A lot can be learned to make the serial better if the unpopular view is read objectively .

The Creatives should insist that the marketing teams should hire moderators who understand their jobs WELL .

The moderators should NEVER allow the members with different views to leave the forums due to forum Gundaism . Yup , thats what I call it now . You don't agree with the popular view and this starts in a forum ...

1] Group forming

2] Sniggering

3] Taunting

4} Personal remarks

5] Threat pms

6} Misuse of Report button and constant report Of your posts and seeing to it that your thread simply gets shut down .

I encountered ALL these troubles and currently am fighting for the last point by demanding justice in every forum I post in .

The Report Button is actually only to be used if offensive language is used or IF rules are broken , especially by making personal remarks .

Unfortunately it is used as a tool to shut CONTRARY OPINION .

The moderators are so busy and bogged down with their own work that they hardly read the threads but just shut the threads down as it is EASIER .

This kind of moderation achieves NOTHING .The few who come to voice contrary views go away by leaving the forum . I Myself did , when I recently encountered tremendous Forum politics . But came back when the pms did not stop .

The Development teams HAVE to remember that Contrary Opinion is As valuable as Popular opinion . BOTH have to be present in a forum .

Sometimes The mods r simply too young to understand the seriousness of their jobs and since they themselves agree with the popular opinion they don't really bother when the ones with the contrary opinion are driven away by Forum Politics .

I see Mods sanctioning Game Threads , Member of The Week Threads etc Etc ...What I don't see often is encouraging DISCUSSION OF THE SHOW threads where both , Popular Opinion and Contrary Opinion are voiced on the same platform .

THAT is real moderation .

I see so many of my intellectual friends STIFLED . Why ? Why this feeling ?

Because of SILLY RULES That STIFLE debate .

One Such silly rule [ Pardon me but I have to say it guys} is NO BASHING OF A CHARACTER IS ALLOWED .

This rule in IF stifles healthy debate .

Members use this rule as a tool to shut down ANY and EVERY contrary opinion .

WHAT is bashing of a character ? This is something very SUBJECTIVE .

Are we supposed to see a TV serial and NOT comment for instance

A is so stupid to let her sister marry a bigamist .

Are we NOT supposed to comment thus coz A is a popular lead and this HURTS feelings of members as they feel their CHARACTER IS BASHED ?

Posts are literally shut down for THIS .

May I know then WHAT discussion remains ?

Characters form the essence of a storyline .How are we supposed to critique a story without praising or criticising the characters ?

Why should remarks about characters be taken so personally ? They r FICTIONAL characters . So long as the ACTORS are not bashed or commented upon , whats the big deal if one expresses an honest opinion if he or she feels that the characters Are wrong or some of their actions suck as they put it ?

Mods should tell them not to use offensive language to express their opinion but should not shut them down for criticising a character , even if it is the Lead .

The check should be put on the FANS instead who use Report button to stifle opposite opinion saying we object ...our favorite characters are being bashed .

If you guys cannot bear an opposite opinion of a TV show , what are you doing then on an open forum ? Do not become members , simply sit in front of TV sets and gaze at your favorite characters and actors lovingly !

But what is this injustice that simply bcoz U guys cannot bear criticism of your Lead , You shut him down by taking refuge in the CHARACTER BASHING RULE ?

That rule Needs REMOVAL .

Members should not be Bashed , Actors should Not be Bashed . But Characters And the Story SHOULD be FREELY discussed . Or else There will be zero debate and CVS will not get proper feedback .

This rule may make moderation easy but it stifles debate .

My presence on a certain forum actually had the effect of making a new rule ...

CVS should not be bashed as they r real life human beings .

If for months viewers invest their precious time in a show only to get some ATROCIOUS TWISTS that spoil the story irrevocably like it happened in CHOTI BAHU [ the first one] after the Fire track or Has happened in Uttaran with the Baby track , are not viewers allowed to express their frank opinions by saying The CVS are plain STUPID to allow this track ?

Is it a personal attack on the CVS , or is it plain disappointment with the script writing skills ?

I think here the moderation skills come in picture . They have to gauge the situation and cut some slack .

Maybe these views on an open forum spur the Cvs on to write BETTER . Why should they only be subjected to Praises and lukewarm criticism like

CVS Please ! Please Listen to Us !

My point is this ...

Not allowing Character Criticism , Not allowing dialogue with CVs , Misuse of report button seriously hacks an active forum and makes it a DEAD FORUM as members leave with disappointment .

As Far as I go ...I have encountered

Hate pms

accusations of hijacking Forums [ As i defend my views passionately and when the opposite side has no answers , they often come up with this ...its a suggestion that I should post LESS 😆 }

Accusations of spreading negativity in the forums { As I refuse to worship the Leads for any nonsense they do}

Accusations of being High handed ...Kools this forum does NOT belong to You !!!! { Although I NEVER even dreamt it did }

Patronising sarcasms that I am a mentally disturbed person and HENCE such ODD views . 😆

Recently I lost My mother and even THAT was commented upon . Of course Kools , we UNDERSTAND WHY you write WHAT you write . Its Not your Fault dear . 😆😆

But I find its ALL worth it when members like JP who argued with me as opponents in a debate remember me for a healthy debate . It only makes me determined as ever NOT to stop posting fearlessly .

I , like JP , can respect an opposite view inspite of not agreeing with it .Sometimes the opposite faction presents such an excellent debate that I feel compelled to appreciate it while not agree with it . The points are so excellently justified , the language is so expressive , the views so candid , the debate so lucid . I find myself pressing the like button in admiration before typing an answer NOT agreeing with that post .

I feel here is where Moderators can come in . If they do the moderation fairly , they can indirectly teach the members who do not know how to seperate the two issues an important thing ...How to respect while even disagreeing and how to part on a friendly note , with no personal offense taken .

The Thumb Rule on the Logo of IF should be

We expect Hands to be shaken when views are Exchanged and the discussion is over .

And each forum should emphasize it .

Thank you for this wonderful topic. Totally required.

IF is really not an open forum as many would like to believe. I have been a member of IF since mid 2005. Having opposite views are never appreciated by Fans. IF is mostly for the members who are die hard fans of the leads. Even Regionalism has been promoted on this forum at one time in 2005. Again these are my personal experiences and opinions.

I watch one or two serials due to what I have read on the forum. Specific member's honest and candid writing and mainly for the humor they bring to the forum. Something I have in common. 😃

I never follow any lead as a fanatic. I am way older and mature for that 😆

Contradicting views to the norm are moslty supressed or popular opinion is usually shoved down the throat of few who have diff opinion. Comes to the point that so called Pundits drive you off the section, report you for your candid views and finally a day comes if you dont leave they make sure you get banned.

Been there done that.

This topic is a De Javu for me of mid 2006.

I hope CVs do read and make proper adjustments to the storylines of any serials. No one should convince any one of their opinions. I am not here to convince anyone. I write my views and move on. But will never leave due to someone wanting me out. I stand in the firm as I have as much right to be in this forum as anyone else does. Too many politics and unwarranted reporting is used in diff sections by lead fans. All they want is flowery, romantic stuff abt the lead they like. Nothing candid or constructive which can make the serial better. There is word like "Reality" which they do not care for.

There is a grey line between Fan and Fanatics. Journey does take place and the person does not realize that they are justifying everything abt the character because they love the looks or the acting or what ever.

I dont watch serials so I get to learn abt Mahabharat or Ramayan or Geeta. I believe in Karma. So that is how I see things. I dont need forum to teach me my religion. I dont see god or godess in the leads.

Koolsadhu has made many valid points. Unfortunately I belong to the same minority. I write as I see the show. Nothing more or less.

Thanks for reading. God bless!!

Peace!!
