Do read my thank you note above!!!
One Day from my Life...
"mayannnkkk" she screamed from the kitchen and i fell literally fell off the bed. Oh gosh! I knew she would start off again, and indeed, she did!
"how many times do i have to wake you up? Why don't you get up on time? First i have to wake you up, then i have to wake up Rahul and Pranav, then do my kitchen work and the other household chores. But why would you people care? Why do only the Sharma men get to sleep 'a little while more'? even i would love to sleep..." and slowly i heard her voice fading away... Thank God she was done... or at least that's what i had thought, until she screamed right into my ear and tore off my ear drums...
"Mr Mayank Sharma, are you sleeping again?" to which i woke up with a start... she was damn furious alright, and i could sense that by the way she was shooting daggers at me.
"no nupur, i was just getting up. It's like i fell and was just..."
"enough of excuses Mayank." She cut me then and there. "go wake up Rahul and Pranav NOW. I am tired of running around the house, just to wake the 3 of you" she said as she walked out of the bedroom, and then suddenly paused and turned and said firmly "if i catch you sleeping again, i swear... you're going to be very sorry" and walked downstairs to the kitchen.
I could not fall asleep again. No. Not even if there was a tiny little voice in my head saying "come on, its just 7a.m. go back to bed." Nope, i dint want to be eaten alive for breakfast.
I drag my feet to our kids' room where i see them sleeping so peacefully. Awww such angels... look at them sleeping in heavenly peace...
and then i remembered Nupur's angry face... yeah, thats right. Nupur. Nupur Mayank Sharma. My life, my wife, and the mother of my two mischievous darlings, Rahul and Pranav, who, if i would not wake up now, would have to face the wrath of their angry mother.
"Rahul, pranav, get up. Its Sunday and we are going out for a picnic." And they woke up with a start, immediately. See, it's not very difficult to wake them up. I wonder why nupur doesn't try this trick. Works all the time for me.
Anyway, after they crib and complain as to why i lied about today being a Sunday, while it was Friday, and after they finish brushing their teeth, and having a bath, and after i have freshened up, all three of us go to the dining table for breakfast, before Nupur would start yelling AGAIN.
We quietly sat on our chairs without saying a word or making any noise and started having our breakfast. Nupur always had her breakfast after the three of us were done. I used to have chapatti-curry and the kids loved their cereal and milk. And when we had just started, nupur came out from the kitchen.
"finally, the three sleepy heads have come for breakfast after i have called four times. U know what? One day I'll just leave the house and go. Go somewhere far away. And never come back. Im tired of all of you. Rahul, why cant you eat without spilling something on your clothes. And Pranav, did you finish off your homework yesterday? And mayank, i had asked you to go to the bank two days back. Why haven't you gone yet? Ah you men, all are the same. Irresponsible..." and she went into the kitchen, muttering something. Raul and Pranav looked blankly at me, while i just looked at my chapati's which were looking back at me, completely soaked it in the gravy. It was like i had drowned them mercilessly in the gravy, while nupur had just completed her 'lecturing-the-sharma-men' session, for the moment. And then we three burst into a giggle, careful enough that nupur wouldn't hear us.
We finish our breakfast, while the school van honks outside our house. I take the kids out and leave them in the school van, after they say bye to their mom, who affectionately plants a kiss on their cheeks... i seriously haven't met a more complicated woman than her.. She is so unpredictable. She was angry and screaming a minute ago, and now look at the love...
I brush that thought away as i walk into the house after the van leaves for school. Nupur was having her breakfast. She seemed calm now. I sat next to her and held her hand. She looked at me and smiled, but her eyes seemed to be sad. She had these large, dove shaped, expressive eyes, for which i fell for, for the first time, which now, were trying to tell me something. I squeezed her hand a little, indicating her to tell me if something was bothering her, and after six years of our marriage, she knew what my gestures meant very well.
She looked down, while tears welled up her eyes. I just let her cry, although i dint know the reason. In these many years i had known one thing, and that is, when a woman cries, or should i say, when nupur cries, u just need to hold her and make her feel that you're there for her and hear her out.
"i am so bad na, mayank. Every morning i wake you all up by yelling at you all. And then keep yelling, and keep yelling. Im sorry mayank. Its just that im so stressed up with all this work and ..." she wept. I got up from my seat and hugged her tightly while she sat there crying in my arms.
"hey... baby, i understand. Its not your fault. It happensin this condition. You're just having your mood swings, that's it. You don't need to be sorry. You do so much for the three of us, in fact four of us, if it includes the one that's coming soon among us" i said as i placed my hand on her stomach. She had completed six months and was in her seventh month of pregnancy.
Nupur smiled as she placed her hand on mine, over her tummy. "you better hurry up for office now. I don't want you to be late." She said while she got up and went to the kitchen.
I went behind her and hugged her. "take care, love you" i said as i kissed her forehead, while she only blushes. awww, she still blushes with a lil peck on the forehead even after so many years of marriage. Anyway, I grabbed my keys, my coat, my files and other important stuff and left for work.
In the noon, i pick the boys from school and take them to my office, like everyday, so that they wouldn't trouble nupur at home. If the boys remain at hone, they would make mischief and nupur would lose her patience and the kids would cry and then nupur would cry and finally i would have to solve the problem after listening to both the sides!!! Gosh i have such a filmy, dramatic family.
And in the evening, when we three reach home, nupur prepares some of the best delicacies. Ah, she is fantastic when it comes to cooking. Actually she is just amazing in anything she does. And once we are done with pet-pooja we go for a small outing to a nearby park, or an ice-cream parlour... well, i leave that for nupur to decide.
After we are back, the boys sit to study and nupur is very strict when it comes to their academics. She asks them questions and gives them maths homeworks. Maths is something that is equivalent to disgusting and nauseating for me.. but nupur and maths are more close than Mickey mouse and Pluto... and trust me, the kids love maths too... they are good students, i must say. Credits to nupur. and once they are done with school work and home work, they watch cartoon on TV and then we have our lip-smacking family dinner.
At night, she tucks the boys in bed and reads them stories, while i just stand behind the door and watch the three of them. They look so adorable, so perfect... i have got each word of the story by-heart, but still the three of them always giggle when she reads that Goldilocks had been sleeping in baby bear's bed, as if they were hearing it for the first time! Finally when the boys fall asleep, she kisses them goodnight and comes to our room.
She goes to the washroom and freshens up. She looks so pretty in this stage of her pregnancy. Well, she looks pretty otherwise as well, but i guess it must be the pregnancy glow right now. I sit on the bed and just watch her as she packs the boys' school bags, and keeps my wallet, handkerchief, keysand stuff ready for the next day. She is an amazing woman, the best mother and an awesome wife. I agree she does keep nagging at times, but thats coz she loves us and we love her in turn.
"thank you nupur" i say as i snuggle close to her as i place my hand on her stomach under the warm quilt.
"why?" she looks at me in a very suspicious manner. "mayank, forget about buttering me. Im not going to let you sleep one extra minute in the morning. And please, don't make me yell in the morning. I yell at you, and then i yell at the boys and then..."
I kiss her tightly on her lips and well, she does tell me that i am an amazing kisser đ. She looks at me blankly, first in shock, then in surprise and finally she blushes.
"i love u mayank" she says as she hugs me
"i love you too Mrs Sharma" and i silently thank God for bringing these people in my life, who are the reason for my being today.
