Ludhiana, June 10: You took home two trophies at the Star Parivaar awards this time?
I won the favourite bahu and favourite bhabhi awards. I was up against Nandini from Kyunki and Parvati from Kahaani. It just goes to show that an afternoon soap can garner as much popularity as a prime time serial.
Were you surprised?
I know I am the best. But I was definitely surprised with the favourite bhabhi trophy as Parvati has been winning it since the awards were instituted.

What makes Kumkum stand out?
Kumkum and Sumit (Hussain Kuwajerwala) haven't broken up and gotten back together dozens of times. She's never turned negative like some of the other bahus and the storyline has stuck to the original plot since the beginning. She's always stood by her family and embodies the finest qualities of a good bahu.
Isn't she too perfect?
She does take a stand against her brother-in-law Rahul when he tries to cause problems. But never lectures endlessly. She's capable of playing pranks on her husband and teasing her father-in-law. These qualities make her believable.
Don't you feel left out in terms of exposure?
That's an obsession with the prime time serials. But our TRPs—anywhere between 8 and 13— speak volumes without us braying about it.
Do people ever question you about Balaji?
Because it's a K-serial, Kumkum is often confused with being a Balaji soap. I've often had people ask me, ''So what's new in the K world?'' I have to politely explain, "I wouldn't know. I don't work there.''
How do you work on the great chemistry between you and Hussain?
We're best friends off screen and contrary to what other actors say, we are actually only friends. That rapport translates into good chemistry on screen.
Don't you think he's hot?
Well he is cute and does have a great body. Remove the face and plaster Abhishek Bachchan's there, and that's the perfect man for me.
