Sharad Kelkar, better known as Nahar from Saath Phere – Saloni Ka Safar or Rudr from Sindoor Tere Naam Ka has proven to be a big hit on television. Apart from acting, he is very good at judo and basketball too. A fitness freak, he plans to open a well-equipped gym in future. Currently riding a career high with two hit serials under his belt, the actor opens up and talks about his roles, future career prospects and love life too.

Q How did Saath Phere — Saloni Ka Safar happen?
My good friend Shweta Kawatra tipped me off about the auditions for Nahar Singh's role in Saath Phere. Actually, I signed on Saaht Phere a month before Sindoor, but started shooting for the latter much earlier.

Q If you had come across a dusky plain Jane in real life, would you have fallen in love with her like your onscreen character Nahar does with Saloni?
It's true that Saloni isn't conventionally beautiful, but how does that affect love, which is blind. A man may ogle at several beautiful women around him, but his heart will finally fall for someone who is on the same wavelength as him. There should be chemistry between the two as well.

Q Do you identify with Nahar from Saath Phere and Rudr from Sindoor Tere Naam Ka in real life?
I feel my whole personality, height and build gels with Nahar who is an aristocratic Rajasthani. Besides, I play a married man who loves his wife, it's the same in real life too as I really love my wife Kirti Gaikwad. As far as Rudr is concerned, initially I was a bit apprehensive about playing a villain. But with gradual twists and turns generated into the plot, my character transformed into a positive person. What fascinates me most about him is his angry young man image. Plus, playing hubby to my wife Kirti in the serial has been an added advantage.

Q Is it true that the previous episodes of Sindoor were scripted along the lines of Amitabh Bachchan's rebellious character in the Bollywood blockbuster Trishul?
To some extent yes, as Rudr too like Big B in the film was born an illegitimate child, who later on goes to take revenge, only to realise that it's entirely his loss. But that track is now over.

Q You always said that Kirti has been your sole guiding force in the industry. Comment.
Kirti is senior to me in the industry and she has literally taught me how to mouth my dialogues and correct my expressions in front of the camera. In fact, she grades my work. And right now I've progressed from the nominal 1 to 5 out of 10!
