regarding jagat, he is one lost soul too... he has lost jagya's innocence long back but he still kept the other traits - like thinking only for himself, getting things done his way, by hook or by crook... assuming every one to be at his service etc etc... that had been him - all through... and a lot of that comes from his upbringing. he was brought up to believe that way... and old habits die hard!
as with gauri... she did influence jagat to the point where his ready-to-sway soul became obsessed with the 'modern life - modern ladki' fixation. apart from that i think there wasnt much she could do... coz she developed her way of thinking based on the bitter experiences of the past , badly wanted to do something for the society and all that only till the time she had to come face to face with life... even after the marriage with jagat, she was living under the false ideas - that she can correct every one and everything... when she failed, unlike in studies where she always excelled, she couldnt take it... and is now trying different way - by trial and error... quite natural... life is a struggle for most of us... nothing comes easily... i find this character very close to reality...
anandi - she is someone i cant relate to these days... i mean... how could a girl be so selfless... well, may be there are , but am unaware of the existence of such ppl... the limited circle of mortals around me do think of themselves at least during a crisis... it may be my lack of exposure that i still wonder how on earth can she think of gauri's plight when she is equally a victim and has her heartaches to deal with.
