Part 1

Megha stepped out on to the silent platform of the usually crowded railway station. She adjusted the dupatta around her neck & took a deep breath. Kasauli…….one of the most beautiful places on earth, which housed her new life. It wasn't easy for someone who had run away from her past. She had come here to begin life afresh, to find new dreams, & perhaps a new home.

As she heaved her luggage onto the rickshaw she had beckoned, she wondered what this new life meant for her, looking out on the bustling streets of Kasauli, longing to be a part of the crowd.

'Where do you want to go didi?' the auto rickshaw driver interrupted her dreams. 'Springfield University', she replied.

Priyanka……..Priyanka!!!!!! Priyanka…….Priyanka!!!!!!!!

"Damn them all, don't they understand this shouting makes me more nervous?" groaned Priyanka a.k.a Pri, the chess champ of Springfield university. The current situation was getting on her nerves. The final round of the inter-university chess tournament, last one minute on the clock & to top it all, all this screaming. "Man, I can't lose, Varun will kill me, & I'll be ruining his reputation as well, no!!!... Hey I got it."

The piece moved suddenly & the game was over "Checkmate", she grinned.

"Baatein kuch ankahi si, kuch ansuni si hone lagi

Kaboo dil pe raha na hasti hamari khone lagi

Vo……ooo….vo….ooo….vo……ooo….shayad yahi hai pyaar."

The beautiful melody was interrupted by a loud crash.

"Rohan you idiot look where you are walking" Sunaina shrieked

"Very very sorry Naina Di" He replied

"Yeah right, sorry won't work ok, now help me out will all this stuff."

"Fine fine….. By the way, how do you manage to carry this stuff all at once?"

"It isn't difficult, you always help me out"

And so the same conversation went on. It was an everyday story. Rohan loved irritating Sunaina, his sister and the chirpy Sunaina also had a witty reply to make.

"By the way Di, did you see Pri anywhere?"

"Yeah… she had a tournament….. You forgot?!?!?!"

"Oh damn ….. Yes I did. I'll be back soon." He raced off.

Sunaina weaved her way in and out of the milling crowd to the atrium. The atrium was the most happening place in the university. It was a huge pit surrounded by steps giving an amphitheatre like feeling. It was a perfect place to study, play, gossip, or even rest. But that was not why Sunaina was going there; it was because she knew she would meet her best friend Aditi there.

Aditi!!!!! Someone shouted. Aditi looked up from the giant canvas she was painting, not at all surprised to see Sunaina standing there.

"God Sunaina, don't shout so much. You'll cry yourself hoarse, and then who will host the radio show every morning? By the way, how's this looking?"

"Really nice…" Sunaina replied. It was really nice. After all, Aditi was one of the finest painters in the university.

"Hey by the way, did I tell you? Gautam bhaiyya is returning today."

The moment Aditi mentioned Gautam's name, she noticed that the colour seemed to fade from Sunaina's face.

"Naina …… you ok?"

"Yeah... I'll just be back. I think I forgot something." She rushed off.

Aditi stared after Sunaina in confusion. "What's come over her? She is acting so weird. Man… I'll have to find out"
