Abhay Raichand had been feeling anxious all morning. Something was wrong… or, a better way to put it would be, something was going to GO wrong incredibly soon… and he knew he needed to stop it. Where are you Piya…? He whispered restlessly. For the first time in his 200 years of life, the visions that Abhay received were blurry…. Abhay felt helpless. "Stay safe Piya… Please…." He pleaded to himself. But he knew Piya too well…. She was the most accident prone girl he had ever seen. Something was wrong... very wrong….Abhay closed his eyes, trying his best to push past his anxiety and focus. … A cliff… A girl…. Piya…?? Abhay shuddered awake from his vision. His lips were quivering wildly and his eyes were frozen with dread embedded within them. "No…"
She felt a cold rush pierce her skin as she sank deeper and deeper underneath the water. Her lungs were screaming for air…. But each time she gasped, she was engulfed by another burst of water. Her heart felt as if it were on fire…. The burning was intolerable…. Abhay… please… help me… A wave of tears rolled down her cheeks. She felt herself losing… losing to the water… losing in the battle of life and death. She felt her eyes closing. She was tired… exhausted…. It was only moments before a dark screen of blackness had covered her completely. She had never thought about dying… but now, as she found herself flailing for any hope of escape under the deep waters, it seemed to be more real than ever before.
Abhay's Point of View:
Even with the help of my inhuman speed, it seemed to take decades before I reached the cliff. My eyes were scanning the horizon rapidly. Piya… Where are you…? My visions had never lead me incorrectly and I had known to trust them completely. I knew Piya was here… and possibly in danger…. I rushed to the edge of the cliff. There was no trace of her…. It was only a coincidence that I looked underneath the cliff to the ocean below. It was then that I saw her… Her lips had become blue from the iciness of the water and her eyes were closed tightly. My heart felt as if it had come alive once more. Never had I been this relieved to see anyone in my life. I raced to the bottom of the cliff, lifting her fragile body in my arms. I was afraid of hurting her… I was afraid of the danger that I posed to her… but not more than I was afraid of losing her. If keeping her alive meant that I was to stay with her, I was prepared to do so… I was prepared to kill the animal inside of me… I was prepared to destroy the half of me that yearned for her blood. I would do anything for Piya….
I lifted her gently and placed her on the surface beside me. I held her as tightly as I possibly could. "Everything will be alright Piya… I promise… I'll make it alright…." I couldn't help but continue staring at her… She seemed so helpless…. so innocent…. She had always called me her angel… but how could she not realize that she herself was an angel to me… She had entered my life as a storm… and had changed it forever… Because of her, I had found life once more… She had become my very life itself. A girl such as her couldn't be anything less than an angel….
I caressed her hair softly. I just wanted to engulf myself in her love… I wanted to shower my love on her…. I touched her cheeks, bringing the colour back in them once more with it. I traced her blue lips gently.
"I love you Piya… I love you so much….". As if in a trance, I bent down… meeting my lips with hers…. They fit together perfectly… as if we were just meant to be…. I touched her silenced heart…feeling it beating quickly once more….
Her eyes opened slowly…. As if she was awakening from a deep sleep. "Abhay…" She whispered. "You came…." I felt my eyes blurring with tears. "Of course I did…. You didn't expect me to leave you alone to die, did you…?" Piya smiled weakly. "Well…." I placed my hand upon her mouth, silencing her at once. "No…don't even answer that…"
"For a moment, I thought you wouldn't come…." She declared hoarsely. I felt as if my heart had been slashed into a million pieces with this one sentence. "Never think that Piya… I will be there for you forever…. Before death can even lay its finger on you, it must face me…." A lone tear rolled down Piya's eyes.
"Why Abhay? Why are you doing this? I thought you said you didn't love me…?" I slid her hair behind her ear.
"Words are not enough to express my love for you Piya… My eyes will tell you how I feel about you…. What do you see in my eyes Piya…?"
We both knew that it was a question that did not need to be answered. Piya wrapped her arms around me, sobbing wildly. "Don't leave me Abhay… Don't you dare leave me ever again…. I won't live without you… I swear I'll kill myself."
"And what makes you think I can live without you…?"
I joked. Piya sniffled as she gently hit my chest. "Shut up, you idiot! And hug me!" And for the first time in my life, I laughed as I wrapped my arms securely around hers.
