PART - VII

Pari entered inside the plane she searched for the seats allotted for them and sat near the window, Geet is at the back of Pari she has seen pari occupying the window seat.

GEET : pari plz i want to sit near the window, will u please exchange ur seat with mine

PARI : sry dear i came first and this is my seat i want to see the clouds when i am flying

GEET : pari plzzz, this is the first time i am going on a flight can't u sacrifice ur place for ur frnd

PARI : oh meri jaan itna senti dialogues mat bolo i am also flying for the first time

MAAN is watching them fighting for window seat.

MAAN : u two are behaving like kids stop fighting

GEET didn't notice that MAAN is watching their childish fight. She became calm and sat next to PARI without arguing with her any more. MAAN occupied the seat next to GEET.

GEET gave deathly glare towards MAAN when he occupied the seat next to her. MAAN didn't understand y she is looking like that "what now? Y is she angry on me now? Her problem is with Pari then y is she looking angrily at me? " He started to replay back the scenes that happened from the incident when he has seen her in her new avtar to the incident when they took blessings together and the angry look she gave her after taking the blessings. Now he realised the reason behind her anger "so she is still angry on me for taking blessings along with her, but it's just a coincidence i didn't plan anything y don't she understand?"

Geet is still looking at him with anger evident in her eyes.

MAAN : i didn't do it intentionally, it's just a coincidence

GEET : i knew it

MAAN : then y r u beh...

Air Hostess : would u like to have some drinks sir ?

MAAN didn't say anything. GEET "i would like to have that coke" saying so she is about to take the glass of whisky

MAAN : GEET that's not coke, that's WHISKY

GEET : then i will have this

This time she placed her hand on VODKA

MAAN : that's VODKA

GEET to Air Hostess : NO thanks

GEET : i think u know the entire list of the alcoholic drinks that exist

MAAN understood what she is referring to "knowing the names of the drinks doesn't imply that i am a drunkard"

GEET : OOOH!!!! then u mean to say that u don't drink

MAAN : i do... but occasionally

MAAN : GEET ...

Pari : no not again!!!!! ... u two guyz never speak with each other but once u start talking this is what happens

Both remained silent at PARI's statement. They didn't speak to each other during the entire journey. They diverted themselves by watching the stuff that is played on the screens before them.

They are received by Mr.ALEX at the Canberra airport. He is the person who would take incharge of the team as long as they stay in Australia. He took them to the house where they are provided with the accommodation.

The house is very big surrounded by trees, it has its own small garden with a swing at its centre, big hall with fire chimney, kitchen, conference hall, reading room filled with so many books, a room furnished with exercise equipment and it has 5 bed rooms upstairs ' it is a well furnished and lavish duplex house. Pari and GEET are busy in checking the comforts of the house. They are surprised by the richness and luxury of the house.

GEET : wow pari we have a swing in the garden

PARI : look at those flowers they are awesome

Geet : Pari we have 5 bed rooms over here, we can stay in different rooms no need to bear ur snoring any more... thank god

Pari : oh yeah there is no need to bear with ur stupid songs playing beside my ears all throughout the night

GEET : pari but i use ear phones then how r u supposed to listen to my songs

Pari : tumhari stupid ear phones ki vajah se...i can hear from ur ear phones also

GEET: Pari don't u think the house is too big for 2 people, y are we provided with such a big house ... we are just employees then y r they giving us this special treatment and what about MAAN where is he going to stay? I think we have to clear this with ALEX

Pari and GEET reached downstairs to clarify this issue with ALEX , they have seen Maan discussing something with ALEX.

GEET : thanq MR.ALEX this house is very nice, by the way where is MAAN going to stay

ALEX : this is our company CEO's guest house. MR.MK is also staying with u, our company and clients office are both nearer to this place. I need to tell u something, u have to be very careful as long as u stay here, INDIANS who are living in Australia are being attacked in the name of RACISM. The situation is very delicate here so we thought of ur safety and provided ur accommodation here. Generally no one is allowed to stay here except the CEO.

U can take rest for today i will come tomorrow and pick u guyz. We will go to the office and the work which u r supposed to do will be assigned to u there. U can contact me if u need any help u can call me - this is my card. There are so many INDIAN restaurants and Indian groceries here. So u can opt for cooking food for urself otherwise u can go outside. I will meet u tomorrow at sharp 9 AM be ready. OK then... guyz have a nice day... bye!!!

GEET didn't understand anything except MAAN is going to stay in the same house along with them. She remained still and didn't pay attention to the rest of the things said by ALEX. "what the hell is this - all of us have to stay in the same house? How are we supposed to stay together don't they understand we are just co-employees then how are we expected to stay in the same house?" whenever GEET said "we" in her mind she is referring to herself and MAAN. She is not considering the fact PARI is also staying with them. She is panicking about how to share the house with MAAN and how is she going to say this to her parents. What would they think of her? So many questions are running in her head. She couldn't find answer atleast for a single question. "what am i supposed to do now" she said loud.

Pari and Maan understood what is bothering her.

Pari: GEET its ok we are 3 of us, i am also staying along with u don't worry

GEET: pari do u understand the exact situation. If u are ok with sharing this house with him - it's ok i don't mind i am leaving now i will find a place to stay for myself

saying so she took her luggage and started leaving.

MAAN blocked her way

MAAN: GEET where r u going

GEET: i don't know ... but one thing is for sure i am not going to stay in this house along with u

MAAN: Geet stop!!..just listen to me ... u r in a entirely new place and u don't have any idea of what is happening in this country. It is not safe to go outside alone. I am not allowing u to go outside, u r going to stay here along with me.

GEET: who r u to decide about me? Back off and let me go.

She tried to push him back by holding his collar. MAAN stopped her by holding her hands on his collar.

MAAN: Geet i have the right to take decision about u, stay back

GEET: what ... what did u say ... u have the right to take decision about me???

MAAN: yes

GEET: who gave u this right?

MAAN: ur dad

GEET: what!!!!... my dad???

MAAN : yes u r my responsibility now as long as u stay in Australia it's my responsibility to take care of u. Indian students in Australia are being killed in the name of RACISM here. They can attack us as well any time. They are entering the houses where INDIANS are living and killing them. Under these circumstances I am not going to leave u alone.

Geet remembered Mohindar - MAAN 's conversation at the airport

Mohindar : nice to meet u Mr.MK, then u r accompanying with my daughter. U have the responsibility of these two girls on u, plz take care of these girls.

"sure uncle that's my responsibility to take care of GEET..." MAAN paused few seconds by saying so then he realised what he just said and repeated" i mean i will take care of both GEET ... and PARI"

Geet released MAAN's collar and stepped back.

GEET: whatever... u can't stop me in the name of my dad

MAAN: GEET give me one reason y u r leaving this house

GEET: i can give u 100 reasons. Y should i stay with u? This is not our culture that a boy and a girl who are not related in any way r allowed to stay together under the same roof. I have my own set of beliefs, values, rules and restrictions of life. I am not going to break them for any reason.

MAAN: firstly u and me are not the only ones staying here Pari is also staying with u. We are not living together in a single room... we are sharing a same house that too for few months. Did u see the house it is so big that we can maintain our decency even living under the same roof. Do one thing consider this as an apartment and me... just as ur neighbour. I am not going to disturb u in any way. All that matters to me is u r safety. I can't take the risk of staying away from u and worrying about ur safety. So i am not letting u to go anywhere.

Geet didn't understand how to react... care and concern towards her is clearly evident in his eyes and voice. She started analysing what he told, she is convinced by now. If the decision is in her hands she would have said "fine i agree to share this house with u", but how is she going to convince her parents. Can she really do it? When she got the job she has struggled hard to convince their parents in allowing her to work at a different place. She somehow convinced them and came to Australia and now not again this time it is going to be tough.

GEET: but how am i going to convince my parents

PARI: is that necessary to inform them ... u r doing nothing wrong then y don't u hide this from ur parents GEET

GEET: no pari i can't hide this or lie to them i hate cowards and liars i am never going to hide the truth from them

MAAN: pari , GEET is right she should tell them the truth ... we have a valid reason and we are doing nothing wrong , then y should we hide the truth. Geet we shouldn't get scared as long as we don't do anything wrong. I am with u, inform them that we are staying together. If necessary i will talk with ur father.

GEET is impressed by the support given by MAAN and his perception about the entire issue. She realised MAAN also believes in the same values of life in which she believes in.

GEET : but MAAN how am i going to answer my dad ,he would call me now how would i...

Geet's cell phone is ringing, GEET has seen the display screen of the cell phone and said "it's dad"

Pari came near GEET hugged from her back and placed one hand on her shoulder

PARI : GEET don't worry u can do it, common attend the call

GEET looked at MAAN , he signalled her that everything would be fine - i am with u

GEET took a deep breath and said "HI dad"

"dad i have something important to tell u"

Pari tightened her grip on Geet's shoulder to assure her MAAN blinked his eyes indicating her to go ahead.

"dad do u really trust me?"

"do u really believe me"

Mohindar identified the tension in GEET's voice and seriousness of the situation.

Mohindar: GEET whatever it might be don't hesitate to tell me, i trust my daughter ... tell me exactly what happened.

GEET : dad INDIAN students are attacked in Australia in the name of RACISM. Here the situation is very delicate, the issue of our safety is at risk. So they have provided our Company CEO's GUST HOUSE for our stay. This house is nearer to our work place. All ... all the three of us are supposed to stay in the same house. That implies MAAN is also staying with us

He didn't say anything for few seconds. GEET is feeling nervous worrying about how her father would react.

Mohindar : GEET what's ur decision?

Geet's voice is cracking by now, she closed her eyes and said " i ... i have decided to stay along with them in the same house"

Mohindar : then go with ur decision, i am with u

GEET 's eyes snapped open, tears started rolling down on her cheeks after listening to what her father said. MAAN is standing beside her both of his hands kept inside his pant pockets. GEET touched pari's head with hers and removed MAAN's right hand from his pocket and placed it in her left hand. GEET looked straight into MAAN's eyes and said "i am going to share this house with u" with her eyes full of tears and smile playing on her lips. MAAN wiped off the tears on her cheek with his left hand.

Pari : thank god

MAAN and GEET are looking at each other, MAAN is consoling her with his eyes not to cry.

After hanging up the phone

Mohindar(self thought) : meri bachi ab baadi ho gayi. She trusts u...she believes in u, so she has decided to stay along with u. Voh chahe jitna bhi badi ho jaye ho to meri bachi hai.

I have cancelled all my meetings and came to the airport not to give send off to GEET but to meet u... MR.MAAN SINGH KHURANA.
