But last night's show disappointed me, given how they've totally changed the story. Yeah, yeah, the serial does say that it's not claiming to be authentic, but still, seeing Rukmi do a Kamsa and imprison Bheeshmaka was too much! 😡 Rukmi wasn't a villain the way Krishna's other enemies were, and the way they've done this, they'll have to show somebody - Krishna or Balaram kill Rukmi later, given that he's been behaving as badly as Kamsa.

Here is what happened - Rukmi convinced his father to give Rukmini in marriage to Shishupala, and Rukmini found out about it. So she sent a letter, not via a eunuch, but via a Brahmin friend of hers - Sunanda - to Dwarka. Sunanda had no trouble getting there and gave Krishna the letter. Krishna assured him that despite Rukmi's friendship w/ Jarasandha, since he now knew who Rukmini wanted, he'd go and get her.

Jarasandha, Shishupala and all their allies swarmed on Vidarbha and were welcomed by Bheeshmaka & Rukmi. Rukmini, in preparations for the wedding, went to a temple and did a puja, and after she came out, Krishna arrived, took her on his chariot, and took off. Balarama and his army too arrived, and they battled and defeated Jarasandha, Shishupala and their allies. Rukmi managed to chase Krishna but was defeated in battle by him, but spared.

Given all that, showing Rukmini's messenger as failing to get the message to Krishna was just dragging the story needlessly. Krishna's is a really long story, and there will be plenty of material for the producers of this show if they show him fighting all his enemies and if they show all his marriages.
