New Sujal: mom's a Rajeev Khandelwal fan
"Despite my 10-hour shooting schedule, I rushed home just to check out myself onscreen," says 27-year-old Gurpreet Singh, who is currently occupying the high-profile role of Sujal on Kahiin To Hoga on Star Plus. This Seven Bungalows resident debuted as Sujal on June 6.
Although this is the first time this former model is appearing on television, he insists he was not daunted about stepping into Rajeev Khandelwal's shoes after the actor left the serial in May following a spat with producer Ekta Kapoor. "I am an actor and this role is like any other role I would play as an actor," says Singh. (how can he think of tis that sujal is a character like all other character which he can play wid ease.....i guess he's taking it very lightly that is y he has ruined sujal. he killed my dear sujal😡 jisko rajjev ne itna heights pe pahunchya thha)......i feel like killing him.😡😡
Singh also says he did very little prep work before joining the serial. "I was shown a few episodes of the serial and that was it; there was no other homework required," he says. In fact, he says he had never watched the show before.
"I had auditioned for Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai, but was offered this role instead," he says, adding, "My mum however would follow the serial regularly and she would update me on it. In fact she is a Rajeev fan." (hona bhi chahiye...after all he's 2 gud)
Talking about what his mum thinks of him as Sujal, he says, "I have just made brief appearances till now, so I don't know what she thinks of me. I
haven't even asked her." (well how can he say that his mom didnt like him so poor gurpreet had no option bt 2 sat tis)
Gurpreet was earlier seen in several television commercials for Haywards and VIP Frenchie. He says, "I never thought of myself as an actor or even a model. If I was not here, I would probably be still deciding between being a pilot or a chartered accountant."
And what about the much talked about nose job? "I don't know why everyone is making such a big deal about the whole issue," he snaps, but explains further, "I always felt the need to get a nose rectification done even while I was modelling. When I met the makers of the serial, they too suggested that I get a minor surgery done, so I went ahead with it."
So do people recognise him on the streets now?
"Well it will take time before they start recognising me because I just made my first appearance," says the visibly excited actor.
"I hope they start recognising me after watching me in the serial," he says. However, he sounds a warning note for possible fans. "I look very different on television compared to real life. There is no glamour around me when I am not shooting," explains Singh.
And what does the future hold for him? "Well I will soon be seen in two Bollywood films — Madhubala and Bhay, both directed by Shivram Yadav," explains Singh. "I am looking forward to a successful career in acting, be it television or films. I hope everything works well for me," he adds.
