The pregnancy of actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is apparently the main reason why she and husband, actor Abhishek Bachchan skipped the film awards event in Toronto, say organisers. When the star couple backed out of a performance planned for the event, it was attributed to the animosity between Abhishek's father, actor Amitabh Bachchan, who was the original face of the event, and the organisers.

"For the record, there was no tiff between the Bachchans and us, in any way," says Sabbas Joseph, the chief of the organising committee of the awards and head of the event management firm.

Sources say that the family members had unofficially told the organisers that it was because of the pregnancy that Abhishek and Ash were pulling out of the event.

"They had told us about it (Ash's pregnancy) and we were delighted to hear the news. We were all waiting for the formal announcements to be made," add sources.

Buzz is that the Bachchans will be back in full force at the next IIFA awards. "We are hoping to have them back next year. We are planning an even bigger show next year," says another member of the organising committee.

Sources are saying that Amitabh Bachchan planned to release this bombshell of an announcement just in time for the IIFA events. A few days back, Abhishek Bachchan even made a futile attempt at dropping a hint, posting on Twitter:
"Big B in the House! With a "little" support from junior."
A well-known Bollywood trade analyst and film critic Rajeev Masand even stated:
"Aishwarya expecting, is a bigger news and will be a talk of town during the IIFA too. As even without Bachchan family's absence, their presence will be felt throughout. I must say, it is a sweet revenge by Bachchans."

The Bachchans have previously mentioned that they will no longer be attending any events sponsored by the International Indian Film Academy, since they kicked Amitabh Bachchan to the curb after supporting their cause and endorsing their 'brand' for the past 10 years.

The IIFA stated that they no longer needed an ambassador to market themselves to the world. Perhaps someone needs to tell this to Anil Kapoor, eh? He thinks he's spearheading the whole shindig! But we digress...

Heroine's director Madhur Bhandarkar, who ARB has given complete allotment of her time to shoot the film from beginning to end for the next 2-3 months, was also told the pregnancy news weeks back! This would explain the erroneous articles popping up on the internets about ARB "asked to gain weight" specifically for her role in the film. HA, bullsh*t!

Damn, everything in this town is a shake down! Our cold cynical heart is still happy for the couple though!

Thank you!...that was my point...I'm happy for Ash being pregnant and I sincerely wish her the best...she might not even be in on the timing of the announcement...
But as we all know, for most of these celebrities, showbiz is what matters... As per reports, Ash is due in November, well passed 4 months!! When Ash and Abhi said on twitter that they will not be attending IIFA, I believe that was the perfect time to say why since the reason they gave IIFA was that Ash was pregnant...this was about a week or 2 or so...
why wait when all the attention is on IIFA? Big B.'s tweet sounded like he just learned of the news...who are you kidding?...
you want to tell me that they did not think of the speculation of the timing of the announcement? ... plu..eee..ze!! I for one do not by it... it was a well calculated move... And I think it's sad that Big B. will choose such a precious life event for his own purpose.
