I agree with you to some extent. She's certainly more normal than Rakhi or Rahul, and perhaps that's why it was pretty shocking to see someone like her taking to the idea of a Swayamwar. I'd seen a bit of her in Rahda Ki Betiyaan, and she seemed like a respectable young lady. So seeing her choosing to have a Swayamwar was almost as if she considered herself to be at par with the likes of Rakhi and Rahul.

And because she's so much more normal than the her predecessors, her Swayamwar is considerably less controversial. To overcome this, and to play the TRP game, it looks like Imagine has made Ratan's Swayamwar even more scripted than the previous ones. And in the process of doing what the channel says, Ratan's making herself seem very contradictory and hypocritical. She says she wants a mature guy, then eliminates some of the most mature people (like Rohit) and keeps some of the less mature people (like Abhimanyu). And it makes it look like she's done these things for the sake of controversy. In previous episodes, she's also come across as quite arrogant. I mean, I understand that she's obviously the centre of attention. Afterall, it is her Swayamwar. But in my opinion, using the phrase "sadak pe chalte hue ladke" on every other dulha, or referring to herself as "croro ki machine" is not the most dignified way of going about things.A point to note is that of all the 'Ratan-haters' here, I doubt anyone actually hates her. We do want her to get married to the man of her dreams. And if she finds him through this process, we'll be happy for her. But to be honest, it doesn't look like many of these dulhe would fit the bill of 'the man of her dreams.' And to some degree, that's Ratan't own fault; her criteria of selection seems rather confused. But I think you're right in saying that these shows do teach us things as a community. The show does raise some important points about what we need to know about a potential life partner before making a decision. And I'll admit that she came across as very decent and respectful when with the MILs, and I did like that.
I agree with you both!
I think we can all learn something from Ratan in this show, i actually like her atleast she's way better Rakhi and Rahul.
I agree with you both!
I don't hate Ratan, I just get mega-irritated the way she acts in certain ways. I am very much worried for her to chose the right guy, and as I would be angry if my best friend would keep choosing idiots for herself, I am also angry about this lol.Besides the fact of notion that this show is scripted, we sure can learn much about it. The process of arranged marriage is really difficult. And more important, this girl is really a normal girl that does not know much about guys or humans in general. We can clearly see how some guys are just idiots, woh upar se kuch aur dikhte hai aur andar se kuch aur, and we fall for exactly these guys!!!! Why do we actually ignore the good seedha saadha guys, why do we think it's not sexy? Well Ratan is no different, she is choosing the 'bad guys' for herself ;) I am a psychologist myself, and I absolutely adore every kind of reality show, from jersey shore to ratan ka rishta lol! I really like observing people, so it's very informative. We girls can certainly learn something about it. I just hope she marries the right guy!!
