Made for each other

"She is really born only for me", says Anu Malik.

Continuing with our series of successfully married celebrities we present one of the most controversial figures of Bollywood, Anu Malik. A man, whom the nation finds it fashionable to hate but never ignore, is a die-hard romantic. Though in the eye of the storm for many a scandal, he has made sure he did not rock his marital boat. Married to Anju, his college buddy, today they are an example of a rock-solid commitment.

He speaks on how difficult it is to keep a marriage going for a man who is married to a glamorous profession and how the two of them have braved all ill winds. Over to the master composer, Anu Malik.

On how he met his sweetheart:
''I met Anju in college. She was 16 and I was 17. We were both students of Arts at the Mithibai College in Mumbai. Then we went on to do our Masters in Arts. Our courtship lasted for six years. Those were the best days of my life and we got married at 22 and 23 respectively. Today we have two wonderful daughters, Anmol and Ada. Both of them are artistically inclined. Anmol makes my heart beat when she sings. Her voice has a zing to it. But I want that they are both educated well before they decide on any profession.

You know, I feel that my wife is the blessed one. She is really born only for me. She is the stabilising factor in my life. In my world of distractions, it is she who helps me maintain my sanity. We have shared such a long relationship in an environment, which has more relationships falling apart than those coming together. I don't think I'll ever get a wife who loves me as much as she does. I know this sounds selfish but I don't care. She has gone through days of hell with me. She has been by my side in my lowest moments and has never ever complained. I am human. I am high strung, these are my weaknesses.''

On being known as a womanizer:
''I am happy you asked me this. I am finally going to put this on record. I am a man who loves women. I love my mother, my wife and my daughters. They are my inspiration. People do not differentiate between love and lust. I don't lust women, I love them because they are 'janani' - the giver of life. As for what gets written about me, my family does not get affected anymore. My wife knows I am a romantic at heart but she knows I love her the most. My support system is my family.

On his wife:
My wife has been the constant factor in my life. Her love for me comes across in small ways, which are typical of her. I remember one such instance where I had returned home after a month long tour of the US. It was about three in the morning and guess what I see when I enter my house. She is in the kitchen cooking a much missed home cooked dal-chawal for me. I could have cried that morning.

On relationships of a different kind:
I don't believe in relationships. Lately I've outgrown women. I am into religion. I feel the presence of God all around me. I am happy when people talk of kindness, peace and happiness. In fact I want to make songs on global warming. I am a firm believer in God and it is this faith that keeps me going.

The search is on for the non-existent woman. This image keeps flashing in my mind and the picture I see is that of my wife. I confess it is not easy handling a man like me. I just cannot compare her to anybody. She is the ideal woman. The way she has pampered me, taken care of me and believed in me is amazing. I would not have been Anu without her.''
