Mazher Sayedd who has always been passionate about acting, respective of the medium, reveals his ambitions to PREMA K A little about 'Saat Phere' I'm playing Samar married to an extremely negative girl, Kaveri. She doesn't like my family and poisons my mind against them. I'm completely in love with her and fall for it although I love my parents tremendously. Samar doesn't understand Kaveri's politics as he's completely smitten by her. Slowly he turns negative. It must be interesting to play a negative character! The graph of my character is getting better. I wouldn't call him a negative character. It's more of a situational negative character. He's doing negative things under her influence without realising that it's harming others. But the day he realises what she's doing, she'll have to pay. The show's doing well on Zee and every member of the cast has put their heart and soul into it. Do you relate to Samar? He's completely the opposite (laughs). As far as his belief in love and his passion for doing things are concerned, I'm like him. But otherwise he's a very lost and confused person. This makes him fall for Kaveri's stories. He doesn't know whom to believe. Are you planning to take on more serials? This is a daily show and takes up almost 17 days in a month. If something good and meaty comes up I'd love to accommodate it. But this will not be at the cost of 'Saat Phere'. This serial is the next best thing for me after 'Kahiin Kissi Roz'. Once a Balaji actor, always a Balaji actor! How's it that you ventured out after 'Kahiin Kissi Roz'? (Laughs) I was with them for three years during 'Kahiin Kissi Roz' but after the show I think somewhere I got lost among all the new faces that kept coming in. Ekta Kapoor was busy with her films so I felt I was kind of forgotten. So there's been no fallout with them? Not at all! I did a cameo for them in 'Kesar'. It was an interesting character of Dr. Walia who's a psychotic and possessive guy. It was a very intense character but it just ran into 25 episodes. Balaji is an amazing place to be in especially for a newcomer as it gives him the right platform to showcase himself. So it's not like I didn't work with them after 'Kahiin ..' but I can't stick to only cameos. I need to do something regular. Was 'Kahiin ..' your first serial? I started my career with it where I played Ramola Sikand's only legitimate son. It gave me my recognition but didn't catapult me to great heights. How about films? (Laughs) Which actor wouldn't want to do films! But honestly speaking, I feel this is an era of star kids. Of course, there are people like Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar who've made it. Despite this one needs a Godfather in this industry. I can't keep waiting for films to happen. I need to survive and television gives me the money for my survival. Don't you feel that filmmakers have hang-ups about signing on television actors? They tend to categorise TV actors as overexposed. They also feel that we won't be in a position to give them the required time owing to our hectic schedules. So I'll need to take a complete break from television if I want to pursue a film career. I can't do that. Besides, it's also dicey as it's difficult to make a comeback on TV in case films don't work out. I feel one has to be lucky. Look at Shreyas Talpade. He too did a lot of television and he got his big break with 'Iqbal'. He must have never dreamt that it would become so big. But I'd love to do a film if given a chance. I've always been passionate about acting and don't mind the medium. Any dream role? All of Aamir Khan's roles. I'm his great fan. Then there's Dev Anand's role in 'Guide', Dharmenmdra's role in 'Chupke Chupke', Amitabh Bachchan's role in 'Sholay', and Rishi Kapoor's role in 'Karz'. I love to dream about doing these roles. I feel dreams come true (laughs). What's happening in your personal life? I don't have a girlfriend, if that's what you mean. I think it's quite boring to have one. I've seen my friends with their girlfriends and there's so much tension involved. I love to hang out with my school time buddies. We go partying and for long drives whenever we have the time. It's more fun this way. I have a lot of female friends maybe someday I'll zero in on one of them as my girlfriend (laughs). |
