"Daadi maa why don't you sit down," Maan gently guided her towards his cot. "Here have a glass of water," he said as he poured water for her.
It seems Daadi ...no no no, he didn't even want to think the words. May be he should consult a doctor immediately regarding this...she may have had a dream...yes that was it! Daadi dreamt about Dev, that he was alive and because they he were trying for a baby, she dreamt that there was a baby too. Now she is just imagining that her dream was real. It was nothing, just a bit of hallucination. Yet he should definitely consult a doctor...but how will he convince her to see a doctor...? He was so lost in thoughts that he didn't see daadi studying him.
"Maan I'm not loosing my mind!"
"Loosing your mind...what? Who said anything like that?" Maan said agitated. "You just need to rest."
"Maan beta, I can almost hear your thoughts. You are thinking about how to make me agree to see a doctor," she said with a smile. "I'm telling you again there is no problem with my mind. I am perfectly sane. Just hear me out."
"Alright." Make a person calm...that was the basic rule. "But, why don't you sit back...relax."
Rather than arguing Daadi stretched her legs out in the bed asked Maan to sit with her, facing her.
"You know that Dev and Naintara were trying for a child for a while. It seems that due to some problem Naintara could not conceive. So they decided to opt for a surrogate mother. I remember now, they were excited about something and Dev even hinted about a happy news. I told you that on the eve of the accident ..." her voice broke and Maan put his hands on hers.
"Daadi.."
She wiped her eyes and continued, "When Dev called on the eve of the accident he told there was a surprise and that they were coming home to celebrate...to think that their life was taken away ...and the surprise I got was a call from the hospital...
"Don't cry Daadi ,you will make yourself ill again." Maan put his arms around her and hugged her. He waited for her to calm herself.
"The surprise Dev wanted to share was that the process was successful and the girl they choose as surrogate mother became pregnant."
"How did you know about this?"
"Naintara"s doctor knew about the accident and waited for us to contact her. Since we didn't, she decided to call us. She asked me to meet her regarding this. Isn't it wonderful beta, ...though we have lost Dev forever, we are getting him back as his daughter or son!"
Daadi gripped Maan's hands and looked at him expectantly.
"Daadi, if this is all true then it is wonderful news. But let me meet the doctor tomorrow and find out more. Give me some time to check this out. But please don't get your expectations high...you know this could be a hoax.
"But Beta..."
"No Daadi, I want your promise that you will let me handle this. You are too emotional now. I give you my word that if this information is true, then you will meet the woman who is going to be Dev's child's mother."

Maan recalled this as he waited impatiently at the hospital. He had gone thru' the papers Dev kept in his office and found the necessary documents. There was also record of transfer of a large amount of money from his account. He also found the legal documents regarding the matter. There was also hordes of books on pregnancy that Naintara kept, with a separate file to jot down the points that she found important. That and the numerous posters and pictures of the babies in Naintara's office space made Maan realise how much they were looking forward to having a baby.
He gained more information from his talk with the doctor. Dadi was correct in assuming that the pregnancy was confirmed on the day of the accident. Dev and Naintara were very particular about their choice for the surrogate mother. They wanted her to be educated because Naintara believed that the child started learning from the mother's womb. They wanted the woman to stay with the family, which he already knew from the clause in the legal documents. They had met their choice thru' a friend of Naintara"s gynac, who was also a doctor. Miss Geet Handa had volunteered to be a surrogate mother because she wanted money for her mother's operation. So here he was waiting for Miss Handa at the hospital, because she could not spare time to meet him outside the hospital.
forgive me if i won't be able to post another update before 24th...not sure but just a possibility...will be busy with personal matters next week. my mamma is going for a laparoscopy operation on 20th( plz remember her in ur prayers)...then there is my sister's visit nd my son's history project...
so i feel much of the doubts must have been cleared by this update...happy to know my friends had the same thoughts Maan had😉...did u like it, if so please click the like nd leave ur comment...
