I dont know if it is legal orno but one of my cousins wife in gujarat divorced him to ge into a 2 yr contract marriage with another gentleman. He was married and so they did a contract marriage. They had legal documents in which the terms and conditions were mentioned.

So I dont know how legally binding it was as a marriage but they were living together for two years and he bought her a house etc.

Aaliyah, She was divorced but he(the guy she had a contract marriage with) was married.I sometimes think it is a polite way to have a mistress without calling her one. They are called contract wives.Sometimes the contract marriage actually beocmes a proper marriage and then sometimes it is terminated after the contract period. They do not do the traditional marriage ceremonies and you legally cannot have a second marriage in India, so once the contract period is over they are free.
In TD though they did pheras etc so it is a proper binding marriage.
