Rubina was the first choice to play Phulwa

Their victory at the Oscars and rags-to-riches story though short-lived, propelled Rubina Khan into headlines of every leading newspaper across the country.

She was last in the news when her biological mother and stepmother slugged it out in the open over her custody. But just when the girl was looking forward to a fresh inning and this time on television, her dream run came to a screeching halt, after another child prodigy, Jannat Zubair, snatched the coveted role of Phoolan Devi from her grip.

"She was the first choice for the title role of Phulwa on Colors, a show based on the life of Phoolan Devi. However, she was rejected as she somehow failed to impress the makers and the role went to the nine-year-old, Jannat. Rubina is said to be upset on seeing the show on TV as she is reminded of the lost opportunity. She, apparently, has no Godfather in the industry in spite of having been launched in an acclaimed film Slumdog Millionaire," informs a source.

Rubina's father confirmed that she had auditioned for the role. Any takers for the girl who is now open to doing TV?
