Italian Researchers Believe Chubby Models Will Make Women Fat

Filed Under: Wacky, Tacky & True Models

Oh for goodness sakes!

Two researchers from Italy's University of Bologna have made a ground breaking discovery that will alter life as we know it: plus-size or "chubby" models will make women fat.

Dr. Davide Dragoneand Dr. Luca Savorelli explain:

"To promote chubby fashion models when obesity is one of the major problems of industrialised countries seems to be a paradox."

Their "research" also found using non size 0 models on the catwalk will "alter the ideal weights of a wide part of the female population".

OK, so let us get this straight. It's the plus-size models that are altering ideal weight as opposed to the unhealthy and scary thin models?

That's gotta be the most absurd thing we've heard in a long time.

What a waste of time and money.

Recently came across this article. Do you agree that having chubby models sends out a bad message? Or do you think that some designers are doing this so that their livelihood of selling an unattainable fantacy is not lost. There have been pressures from various campaigns to hire "healthy" models both publicly and also by the government. Italian government proposed a BMI (body mass index) minimum for models after many incidence of young girls in the country dying of anorexia. Italy being one of the world's leader in fashion had many fashion designers opposing this.

Scattered thoughts, but I'd like to know your take on this.

Oish! That's so nonsensical. 😆 But hey, women tend to be more influenced by actresses than models so, I think that won't make much of a difference unless actresses follow Guddi Maruti's footsteps. Oish, again!

no one is taking my post seriously and actually debating. 😭 😭 😆 and here I thought this was the debate mansion. 😆

Should have gone with a more controversial topic. I was hoping this thread would spring to life (with perhaps members going at it 😆) Sigh.. no such luck..

but then again, this is one of those topics where everyone would be politically correct and in unison chant such phrases as "beauty comes in every shape and sizes" or something along those lines.

Lemme be the first to aggravate.

I went to Orlando this summer (I'm from Canada). Everything was fine until we left the tourist area and landed upon residential area. I literally felt like puking. There were drug users and hookers in plain sight. And everyone was huge, like HUGE. The people were also very unfriendly. This was perhaps one of the worst experiences I've had. I had my cell stolen too. I couldn't wait to go back home. The point of this was to reflect that the area was probably a low income one, and everyone seems fat. There's clearly a correalation between wealth and fatness. Wealth is also positively correalated with education. Does fat people= uneducated poor people?

At the Mcdonald's in the States between our stopovers the medium meal was HUGE compared to the ones we have. They even have X-large which we don't. Furthermore, Mcdonald's was the only chain fast-food place that was available in every stopovers. I'm not saying it's any better in Canada but we do have variety.

I've notices in rich areas people seem to be more active and health conscious, too.

It's kind of ironic because in other parts of the world being fat equates to wealth.
