The troubled star was taken into custody in New Orleans — how sad.

Nicolas Cage, 47, has been arrested for domestic abuse in New Orleans on April 16 at 6:33 a.m.

Police records show that Nicolas was arrested for one count of domestic abuse and one count of disturbing the peace.

According to TMZ, a fight erupted between Nic and his wife, Alice, over the exact address of the apartment they were renting in New Orleans!

When she disagreed, Nic allegedly grabbed his wife by the arm – before hitting parked cars and attempting to hop a taxi. Cops from the NOPD caught him before he was able to flee the scene, according to TMZ.

Not only was he arrested, but a source tells TMZ it seems like he was so drunk that might have instigated the whole thing himself!

Nic allegedly told cops, "Why don't you just arrest me?" Cops then suggested he and his wife just go home. But Nic allegedly egged them on, prompting police to bring the National Treasure star into custody.

Representatives for Nicolas could not be reached at this time.
