The popularity of the two actors, who play siblings in Star One's Dhoondh Legi Manzil Humein, has reached such a crescendo that Alka and Abhishek were invited as the Chief Guests for an annual fest organized by a city college. We are sure their youthful energy and die-hard enthusiasm will only take them places and continue to inspire young India. Here is the young and dynamic Alka aka Sara Khan talking about politics and its impression on the youth.
How does it feel to be a chief guest at one of India's best college BMCC college in Pune?
It feels great that for the first time, Abhishek and I were invited to BMCC college, Pune. I had never imagined that audiences would love our sibling jodi so much.
What was the reaction of the college students?
The reaction was positive. During the festival, there was a huge crowd, who responded very positively to us. I am glad that that this college welcomed me in a great manner.
What tips did you share with the students?
I just told them you need to plan your future and be socially responsible towards our country. The youth needs to understand their capabilities, self –educate themselves and bring a change in the society.
It is election time across India even in NNT's constituency. How would you describe the current political scene in India?
Elections propagate fake publicity stunts by numerous politicians, and the same thing is happening in my father's constituency too. Everyone is busy buying votes. During elections, all politicians try hard to get the maximum votes.
How happy are you with our government?
Frankly speaking, I am not happy with the citizens of the country, who don't stand for justice. We should not allow our government officials to take advantage of us. For example, if the traffic police stop a man for breaking the rule, that guy will bribe the officer to avoid arrest or paying a hefty fine. This way, corruption will never stop.
In real life, how closely do you follow politics in India?
I haven't understood the politics in India. I believe in working for social causes, but with my tight shooting schedules, I am really not able to do much.
Among young politicians like Rahul Gandhi, Raj Thackrey, Sachin Pilot, whose life is the most inspiring for you?
I feel it's Rahul Gandhi's. He belongs to a political family, yet he is striving hard for us. Apart from him, Milind Deora always encourages youth and helps them in their social causes.
Who is your all time favourite politician? Why?
I don't have any favourites, but I feel that before independence, Nehruji and Mahatma Gandhiji really changed our political system.
What are your views on Anna Hazare's movement against corruption?
I salute this Indian who though, quite senior, has decided to work on the society's parasite – corruption - through a hunger strike. In our country, someone has to take an initiative to fight for justice. Anna Hazare has become a role model for everyone in this modern society.
How do you feel about being categorized as a youth icon?
Of course, I am honoured by this title. Now, it's a huge responsibility on me to bring change in the social strata. I believe one must be true to themselves instead of others.
Which political film drama do you like and why?
I love the film Gandhi. I love everything about the movie, as it was well made. From the current lot, I liked Rajneeti, because of the riveting story. It was a totally commercial movie.
What changes do you want to see in the youth of our country?
I believe that just academic education will not help our country. Self-education will take our country to a different level. I want to tell our country's youth - Don't think about yourself or your community - think of the masses who need your support. Stand up for the people who need your help.
What is the definition of a real leader?
A leader should inspire others, but must be true to himself first. To hold the crowd is a very important quality, but it should be done in the right manner for the right purpose.
What message would you like to give to the youth?
Take up social responsibility as your own and be a self-made person, which would be very useful in building up a good society.
