Thanks for the article Armu!😊
Damodar is an inspiration as a father???? Really???
1.) He used to drink and bcos of him his children had to work. He knew it troubled them and embarassed them. When his son was deep in troubles, he never tried to be a shoulder for his son, and rather kept on drinking. He didn't mend his ways and kept on drinking till he ruined his health.
2.) He always gives the correct advice but never gave proper solutions to his children. He used to tell Manav, leave Shravni and get married to Archu. Aha! So easy, hai na Damodar? He never offered a solution about HOW to do this. He just wanted Archana back and so he was all for Manav to dump Shravani in any possible way, ethical or non-ethical. It is Manav who knew that the advice sounded easy but it was difficult to implement it bcos his irresponsible father would never take any responsibility of Shravani or her child, it was just Manav who would have to face the music of whatever harm occured if he broke the marriage and if Shravani took Sachu away. Plus Damo never cared about how wrong it would be if Shravani was dumped after so many promises. As I said, he just gave good advice but never helped Manav in following it.
3.) When Manav was in loads of trouble he never helped his son overcome the troubles rather used to constantly harp him "Bring Archana bring Archana" without giving him any type of help on HOW TO DO IT, cos the situation was complex and not completely in Manav's hands. And he used to drink when his son actually needed a shoulder to cry on and someone to help him.
4.) When Manav was in jail for murder of two workers, then instead of thinking of how to bring Manav out of jail, he was celebrating cos Manav's marriage to Shravani had stopped! There his son was being given third degree torture, and Savita was handling the situation, expenses and a tearful Shravani all alone, and instead of helping her, he was only celebrating singing praises of Bappa and thanking him for putting his ONLY LIVE son in jail!!!! Wah! What a father!
4.) Never saved his daughter from abuse.
5.) Never saved Archana from Savita's abuse in spite of bringing her to the house saying-- "She is my beti not bahu."
6.) Isn't a good role model for his children. The way he treats his wife Savita is terrible.
7.) Never defends Manav when Dharmesh/Manju/Rasika hurtle insults at him. In fact, he keeps encouraging Manav to go back to those same people. When Manav was thrown in jail and given third degree torture, despite knowing very well that it was due to Dharmesh and Karanjkar family, he invited them for Vada PAv.
8.) He said Shravani is like my beti, but made life hell for her during her stay by constantly bringing up Archana's name and comparing her with Archana.
9.) He went to return Archana's jewellery but never went to return Sachu to his mother.
I see Damo as someone who gives the right advice and thinks his job ends there. He doesn't help his children in following the advice, nor does he try and make things easier for them. He is 'all words no action.'
His character was sketched out well in the beginning of the serial- he was someone who supported his son against his wife, understood him and tried to help him follow his dreams- like when he helped Manav get the evidence against Ajit and slapped him when he said he would marry Shravani for sake of responsibility, not wanting his son to crush his dreams. But then the CV's didn't develop his character well. Now he is 'all words, no action.' I'm not saying he's the worst father to have or anything like that. Its quite clear that he loves his son selflessly and wants his happiness. But he is certainly not an 'inspiration' according to me.
