How did acting happen?
I was into modeling for a long time. But I also wanted to do theatre and acting as I was looking at enhancing my skills. Acting was on my mind and I was waiting for a good break to come my way. I got a great chance to assist on a play called Ranbhoomi. I worked in theatre for over half a year. The play was successful and I learnt a lot about script, story, acting and actors. Then Nitin Mali the EP of DLMH met me and after a series of meetings and discussions, I got selected as Abhishek.
What do you find most challenging about Abhishek?
He is very versatile. He has a range of emotions to display which is most challenging for me as an actor. The character of Abhishek has grown since inception so we saw anger, rage, maturity, sadness, romance, fear and depression too. It is a tough job for an actor to keep a character consistent yet have a variety to show. It is easy to get deflected but I love Abhishek for all the madness he does on screen.
Would you behave like Abhishek when in love?
Oh yes totally. He is very emotional in love and I would be the same.
Do you think working in a youth oriented show helps? Or is different?
Doing a youth oriented show means it is different from the regular saas bahu fares. That is the most important distinction. I feel good about it as our show DLMH stands out. The characters are real and relatable and appealing to the youth.
What kind of hardships have you faced on the sets?
Being in a new place and setup is always tough on anyone and so it has been with me. There is a saying when many vessels are put together, they bang against each other and make noise and that's what happened on the sets. Initially, there were few hiccups and problems but nothing major. Gradually, things settled down. Today, we are all cool in the unit and work as a team. I used to stay in a joint family in Delhi, so living here in Poona is tough. I visit my family every two months. I miss them a lot.
What is your personal dressing style?
I love the basics T shirt and jeans. But I also love good shoes. That is my casual wear but when I go out for a party I dress up in denim shirt and jacket and adorn a semi formal look.
How aware are you about politics in India?
Not very aware. I know the basic stuff though.
What was the toughest scene in the show?
There were many of them but the closest to my heart are three. First one, when I kidnap Nandini. It was tough as lots of emotions were brimming over. Abhishek was angry, sad and crying too. He wanted to get through to Nandini and felt she wasn't getting him. Some desperation too was needed. He felt helpless. Second scene was when Chander was hospitalized and Abhishek got angry with people in the hospital. He took everyone's case there for the shoddy treatment. Third is the scene when he has to express his love to Nandini, who doesn't trust him anymore. There weren't many dialogues and I had to express through my eyes the love for her, the desperation and the bond I felt.
Who are you friends with / close to in the cast?
I am friends with everyone Deepali, Yashwant, Sara, Nitin Mali, Yusuf but I am not close to anyone. It takes me time to get close to people. But we are all cool and very friendly.
