Prachee's proud of Guinness record
You might know Prachee Shah Paandya, as the girl in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi or from the much recent show Colors Ye Pyar Na Hoga Kam, but there is more to her personality as we discovered. She has a Guinness World record under her belt of most Kathak spins in a minute. And now this talented and accomplished Kathak dancer is looking at better roles in films and television.

How did the idea of making a Guinness World Record in most Kathak spins in a minute come about?
Colors called me and spoke to me about their new show Guinness World Record-Ab India Todgea. They asked if I was interested in making a world record. I was glad for the opportunity, very happy that they approached me. I didn't know there was a category of this sort but delighted that I made a world record.

Were you nervous before doing it or while shooting?
There was some anxiety. This was a dance performance and a Guinness record, so obviously the expectations everyone had were huge. But more than others, I had great expectations from myself. I was slightly nervous and excited at the same time. It is always nice to know your potential.

How was the over all experience?
It was brilliant. The shooting was delayed and we had to wait for over six hours to shoot which did affect our energy. I wished we had started earlier as it felt like a do or die kind of situation. It was great to showcase your talent on such a platform as a record helps push you to a newer limit and greater height.

This was also the first record of its kind being shot ever on the show. Did that make it more special?
Yes. The beauty of the record was that while spinning I didn't budge from my spot. Mostly when you spin you tend to go left or right but I didn't. I gave a Kathak performance on the song Kahe Ched Mohe and attempted the record with complete 93 spins in a minute. The speed, consistency didn't waver but were the same. It was visually breathtaking. The adjudicator from Guinness records, Mr. Rob Molly, said it was commendable. I just regret not getting enough time to practice. When you plan to run a marathon, you get advanced notice so you can prepare. If I had a month to prepare and practice, I might have done better. But having said that, I want to say I am happy with this record. This is special for me and it will be part of my bio-data now. I am waiting for the official certificate which should come in a week.

What were the reactions of the television industry, your friends and family?
Everyone was thrilled for me. They didn't know I could attempt such a thing- moreso even I didn't know I had it in me. Such a record comes once in a life time and it has given me a huge boost in energy, passion for dance and confidence.

How and when did your love for dance occur?
My love for dance started since I was 3 and half years. My dad and I used to go for walks when one day we spotted a dance class. I joined it as the Guruji felt I had potential. Since then my love for dance commenced. At the age of 5 I gave my first performance on national tv and haven't looked back since. I loved it and pursued it.

Where else have you performed?
I have given over 200 solo performances all over the world. I was the youngest performer at the Elephanta Caves festival. I have also performed at the Taj mahostav, Ajanta Ellora, and even was the cultural ambassador for Kathak to South Africa. I have performed with almost every legendary musician from Hari Prasad Chaurasiaji to Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharmaji.

After your last show Ye Pyar Na Hoga Kam, are you up for more work?
I did a Rajshri film Isi Life Mein and I have two films coming up. One is Vikram Bhatt's 3D film Haunted and the other is a Marathi film with Bharat Jadav. Post the delivery of my daughter Khiana, I lost 28 kgs, so I am looking at meatier roles and want to enjoy acting. After 11 years of tv, I realised films too were fun. I would love to do television as well but no the monotonous roles. Also in films I am looking at challenging roles as they have more to offer.

Do you love acting more or dancing?
There is no comparison between the two as both are different from each other. Sure the idea of expressing oneself is the same. Both of them are addictive. Being in front of a film camera more so. This seems like the second phase of my life and I am enjoying every minute of it
