I never celebrated Holi with my family: ShaileshLodha
Gaurav Malani, TNN | Mar 12, 2011, 01.28am ISTShailesh Lodha, popularly known for his portrayal of Taarakh Mehta on the TV show Taarakh Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah turns a busy man every Holi. "For the past 20 years, I have never celebrated Holi with my family. This is one festival when I am always busy doing shows across the world. I am as busy on Holi as a Brahman is during the shradhh period, doing multiple shows in a day", explains Lodha.
His standup comedy show called 'An Evening with Shailesh Lodha' has made rounds of the world from New York to Chicago and won accolades everywhere. So will he be again celebrating this Holi abroad? "This time I am performing inMumbai. However I shall still be missing my family who are in Rajasthan. Nevertheless I shall make it a point to attend all the fun and festivities with my friends that I have been missing all these years", says the talented actor.
Also Shailesh Lodha is known for hosting hasya kavi sammelan, an event which has become synonymous with the festival of Holi. Ask him the connection between the two and he explains, "A Kavi (poet) is the voice of a mute society. Where the society stops, the Kavi starts. In general belief, a Kavi is someone who people dread listening to. But since the festival of colours comes with the thought of 'bura na maano Holi hain', the Kavi can get away with his satirical lines on the society without offending anyone".
Ask him of any fond Holi memories and the actor remembers, "Years back, I had followed this friend of mine who was trying to escape from the colours of Holi. I used to have a two-wheeler then and I followed him for as long as 120 kms until I caught him and drenched him in colour and water".
And like his ethical epilogue at the end of every episode of Taarakh Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Shailesh Lodha ends his conversation with a moral tone saying how the definition of Holi has changed over the years. "Holi was always about friendship, love and having merriment together. But over the years the meaning of Holi has surely changed with people adding vulgarity, boozing and dirtiness to it. I personally believe Holi is about forgiving your enemies and making friends with them all over again".
