I think Sony is just trying to spice up the show a bit by entertaining us in more ways along with the usual song and dances. And so Mahi is asked funny questions, asked to do mimicry and so on, just like Sushant was asked to dance with Rashmi, Salman was told to wear Sari, Ankita was asked questions about Sushant, Chang is told to sing etc.

Also as Tamanna pointed out very well, they also have to stretch the episode to one hour- and hence these tactics.
