Juhi Aslam gets candid

Juhi Aslam, who was ridiculed for being a dwarf, says she has a real life connect with the new TV show Baba Aiso Varr Dhoondo in which she plays the protagonist. At the age of 19, Juhi, who stands 3.5 feet tall, brings forth the heartache, humiliation and struggle that people like her suffer through the show. She hails from Uttar Pradesh and is a final year B.Sc student. She says her short height is a hereditary problem.

How did you happen to get this role?
It is a tale stranger than fiction. I come from Shikohabad near Agra. I've been working in small movies. Someone managed to track me down and I was asked to play the protagonist. Initially I was hesitant, as I thought that it was a bad joke. However, they persisted and asked me to send them a video. The next thing I knew was that I was on my way to Mumbai for the show.

How did your parents react?
My father didn't say anything, but my mother wasn't eager. However, my grandmother persuaded her to send the video.

Did you ever expect to see yourself acting?
Never. I never went to the sets with my father. I wanted to pursue higher studies and become a doctor. I still have plans to become a doctor.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of being so short
It's good and bad, yes. I'm 20 years old, but people still treat me like a child. The bad thing is that people stare at me like I'm a weirdo. It's weird to be started at like that.

How has the audience liked the show?
I'm glad that it's been popular. Bharati is a popular character

How is your experience working with Vikrant Messay?
It's easy working with him. He is very affable and we share a good rapport. He is a gentleman.

What are your best scenes on the show?
My first scene and the long dialogue. When I am rejected by the groom and his family, I speak my heart out to my friend Neelam. It was an emotional scene and I like how it looks.
