I have not watched the episodes yet, so I may miss the significance of Nachiketa's story in CB2 but I have read an abridged version of the Katha Upanishad/Kathopnishad by my favorite author.
The first boon is to give his father the wisdom to overcome his anger for wishing death on Nachiketa so as not to lose the merits the father achieved through sacrificing his material possesions.
The second boon is to make Nachiketa understand the significance of the use of fire in yagnas. It is explained even back when the Upanishad was written that the universe was born of fire and how significant it is to life. Thus to this day, all rituals in Hinduism involve alters with fires.
The 3rd boon in the Nachiketa story is the most significant one where Yama, who had never revealed the "truth" or secret of immortality to anyone, reveals to Nachiketa how it is attained.
Yama pretty much explains the existence of 2 forms of self - a Self that is Ego/Aham, tainted by the worldly evils, that is very different from the Self that is part of Brahma, a part of a whole that is indestructable. This explanation is very similar to Krishna imparting knowledge of Self-realization or Sankhya to Arjun in the Mahabharat war in Chapter 2 of Bhagavad Gita.
I wonder if there will be another good vs. bad battle of the story characters that will be explained away similarly, using Upanishads or Bhagavad Kathas. Whichever route the CVs take, they better keep it authentic.

Blokes and Gardes, Thanks for the information. I had read Nachiketa's story in my childhood and remember the gist of it and not the details.

I hope that they are going with the story of a fight between good and bad. In CB1, they glossed over the fight for RP title which was a big theme at the start. Hopefully, they keep the original idea and spend more time on that rather than having fake husbands and fake wives. Avinash's interviews indicate that his character is less naive this time and he is more of a fighter. Hope they keep it this way and make it a multi-dimensional love story rather than having a triangle or a rectangle. Have seen too many of those in serials and it would be refreshing to see something different.

A simple story can turn into something so profound'..who would have thought that we would be discussing Upanishad while watching a TV serial?

Upa meaning Near, ni meaning below, and shad meaning sit'denoting the flow of knowledge from a guru to a disciple who sits respectfully near his guru'..In the story of Nachiketa, Nachiketa the disciple gets his teachings from Yama'.and in the process, we learn the meaning of Self-realization'.

But does this have any relevance to CB'..may be not or may be it will? Only time will tell..

Nachiketa's first boon relates to his father'In CB2, Dev's father is not known, and will Dev ultimately find his father and the boon would help his father not to feel guilty for "leaving" his son''The second boon allows Dev to be a Raj Purohit and just as fire is essential for all the yagnas, the fire of knowledge is essential for the knowledge of "Self"'and the third boon..the realization of "self" that is indestructible..one has to rise above the pettiness and weakness...

To me just the fact that a serial called Choti Bahu--- that reminds us of our great epics and makes us think and makes us want to learn more about them....deserves all the kudos....

Radhika, if the PH and CVs claim that they did more research this time around and the research was on CB-IF posts, I would not be unhappy about it because there is a lot of knowledge in this group that the CVs can themselves learn from. 😆
What do you think? 😉

Hi Gardes

This forum has been great--for many reasons
1) even after CB1 closed, many members refused to give up and continued in their efforts in bringing back CB...
2) We have great FF writers who have weaved so many beautiful stories, inspired by Dev and Radhika's characters and AVINA's acting...these stories have in turn inspired the CV team
3) We have business analysts and researchers who made Zee realize the importance of CB to the overall TRP
4) Most importantly--we have the "Wise Ones" and the "Learned Few" who can teach us the meanings of the shlokas, and upanishadas

Sometimes Guru becomes the chela and sometimes Chela becomes the guru....

Yes, this forum is great and hope it continues to be so...

Thanks Blokes for this thread. It was good to refresh a story that I had read long time back.

I hope that the writers will make this story into an interesting story of good verses evil..........with mutidimensional characters. The potential and scope was there in the earlier version too but they killed it with their petty politics. Similar to Angie I don't want to see any more geometrical shapes in relationships or the tracks. As for the story of Nachiketa, I still don't know whether that was just for one episode or whether the creatives are going to link it with the story........the answer lies in the future. Hopefully it will have some connections with Devs character development.

It is not as much as relevance to the story- more about the "creation" of a Raj Prohit- one who is well established in the knowledge and can do justice to his work. Last time around, I wrote several posts on that issue- then they showed Dev spouting sanskrit verses. One who is established in this ultimate knowledge will not get "reactive" but respond to situations with intelligence and peace. No person or situation will have the power to bother them.
