sonu gets extortion threats

Mumbai: The underworld is once again making extortion threats to Bollywood figures. Producer Ketan Mehta and singer Sonu Nigam are the latest to receive threats.

Mehta who produced the big budget film Mangal Pandey last year has been receiving threats from Gurjeet Singh, who is alleged to be gangster Chotta Shakeel's frontman.

It's a trend that has the police worried and even though they haven't received any complaints they are still checking the veracity of the calls.

"We have got the news and are investigating though no arrests have been made so far," DCP, Crime Branch, Mumbai, Dhananjay Kamlakar said.

Meanwhile, Nigam said that he had received extortion calls from a man named Vicky, who had called from Malayasia. And even though Nigam hasn't registered a complaint, the police have already swung into action and started to intercept the calls.

Sources have told CNN-IBN that there are several other names on the hit list which implies that while the big fish like Chotta Rajan and Dawood Ibrahim are trying to make money from more legitimate business's like construction and cable distributions, their lesser known associates like Vicky and Arjun Singh still find extortion an easy way of making money.
