A treat for Jab We Met fans
Love You Zindagi, the new weekend soap on Star Plus, is the small screen version of Jab We Met. And like the movie, the protagonist is also called Geet Dhillon and hails from a Punjabi family based in Bhatinda. Splitsvilla contestant Pavitra Puniya plays the lead character and we must say she is impressive. There is something very charming about this girl and she seems to have slipped into her role with ease. This serial sure comes as a treat for all Jab We Met fans. In the opening episodes Geet manages to convince her grandfather to send her to Mumbai to study fashion designing. And she does this by adopting the reverse psychology approach, by pretending she doesn't want to move to Mumbai, and it actually works in her favour. Geet belongs to a large joint family, and sees Mumbai as her ticket to freedom.
Pavan Malhotra who actually began his career with SRK in the tele-serial Circus and never quite managed to make a mark on the big screen is back in the soap as Geet's dad. The head of the family though is dadaji, who runs the home and calls the shots. There are sisters and friends and brothers too, characters that float in and out of the home and Geet's life. And, yes, there is a childhood buddy, a nerdy character called Manjeet who runs a fertiliser business and who is clearly besotted by Geet. Geet has stars in her eyes and hopes to find a boyfriend in Mumbai and poor Manjeet clearly doesn't stand a chance.
There is yet another Manjeet in Geet's life, her best female friend who she considers cool. Manjeet has a more progressive granddad so she was sent to Mumbai to study and wears tight jeans with tube tops. Wow, that sure must have sent shock waves in Bhatinda. Manjeet also has a boyfriend called Dhruv so she is the role model that Geet aspires to emulate someday.
Karan Wahi is all set to play Shahid Kapur's character in this soap but he hasn't made his entry yet, so perhaps we will only see sparks flying once Geet moves to Mumbai.
The only disadvantage and that can be a huge drawback is that Jab We Met is constantly shown on the small screen and so comparisons are bound to be inevitable. And given the penchant for stretching serials and adding the most ridiculous situations to increase TRPs, we don't know to what extent the script will follow the movie format. But we can only hope that LUZ doesn't turn out to be melodramatic and over the top version of Jab We Met. That would be a huge disappointment.
