Seeking safety in a tried-and-tested method of entertainment, the organisers stuck to the formula of the medley this year as well. And as they do each season, the artistes made a grand entry with a touch of acrobatics, performed to a few numbers that had become their hallmark and managed quick costume changes through it all.
Cream of the crop Shah Rukh Khan revived his pairing with Madhuri Dixit as if to woo her back into the industry with Maar Daala, Main Agar Kahoon, Tere Naina and Arrey Re Arrey Ye Kya Hua. Looking her best despite the taxing week that was, actor Priyanka Chopra paid musical tribute to Madhuri. The YashRaj setting was rather apt for it is this production house that cultivated Madhuri's career. Piggy Chops sizzled to Dhak Dhak, Ek Do Teen, Choli Ke Peeche and Dola Re, besides others.
Kareena Kapoor has been fortunate to have earned some great songs on her way to the top, and on Saturday she made the most of Mauja Hi Mauja, It's Rocking, Bebo Main Bebo and Zoobie Doobie, which she enacted last year as well. Sonu Nigam, who is in his element when he is singing to a live audience, let himself go with Aye Meri Zohra-jabeen, Na Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai, Mehbooba O Mehbooba and Kal Ho Na Ho.
Newcomer Sonakshi Sinha must have done her parents proud by her retro act where she danced to Piya Tohse Naina Lage Re, Dilbar Dil Se Pyare, Naino Mein Sapna and In Aankhon Ki Masti. For once, the odd couple Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma did not seem to mind mixing "binness" with pleasure, joining together in a lively performance of Aivain Aivain and Tarkeebein. Janakpuri bling came alive every step of the way.
