Theres a touch of seriousness in his voice and he carries himself with much grace.Thats Shiv Subramaniam for you.He was seen in various films like Kaminey and Teen Patti and he has done a lot of theatre work and has also worked on screenplay of films like Parinda,Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and many more. This known actor and screenplay writer was in Ahmedabad to promote his first daily soap Muktibandhan.
He plays the character of Ishwar Virani in the soap and talking about his smallscreen character,he says,He is a self-made man and determined to reach top.All this has made him ruthless but he thinks he is doing it for the good of his family.Im enjoying playing Ishwar Virani as the story and all the characters are welldefined. This is the first daily soap Ive taken up and am happy to be a part of it.
We ask him about how difficult it has been for him to follow Gujarati rituals and culture that are shown in the soap as he is a South-Indian and he says,Im born and brought up in Mumbai. So I am exposed to both Marathi and Gujarati culture. So,I can say Im more distant to South-Indian culture than Gujarati! Ive enjoyed all the festivals Maharashtrians and Gujaratis celebrate.
And anything apart from the soap thats keeping him busy He says,Im working on the screenplay for an upcoming film along with Leena Yadav and Supratik Sen.But,Muktibandhan is taking up all the time so I cant focus much on writing as of now. Here we ask him what he enjoys moreacting or writing To me,both are equally fascinating.I cant distinguish between acting and writing they both compliment each other. But I make it a point to avoid acting when Im writing and vice-versa, says Subramaniam.
So what does he prefer doing when he is not busy in acting or writing He says,Im a voracious reader.I have an endless list of reading starting from fiction to non-fiction,magazines to comics or whatever comes my way.Last time,I found myself engrossed in reading ingredients scribled on a jam bottle! That apart,I enjoy watching movies and plays too.And I do jogging not for fitness aspect but it clarifies my mind.
Interestingly, this 50-year old veteran actor thinks he is spiritual but not religioushe keeps reading religious and philosophical books to understand why we are here in the universe. And about his visit to Ahmedabad,he shares,I love Ahmedabad.Id earlier come here for shooting purpose. The people here are affectionate, warm and are excited on working towards progressive future of the state.
