Yesterday's episode was quite good, if I have to say so myself. The story progressed somewhat, some characters that have been in the background were brought forth again (even though, most of them had no dialogues, but at least they were shown mourning), and last - but never least - the vulnerable Dutta scene.
Now that scene took my breath away.
And then something happened that bothered me to the point that the whole scene got ruined for me and I felt like calling the CVs and yelling at them: "GET BACK TO THE OLD LTL STYLE."
Remember how this show didn't use to have voice-overs every single time a character was thinking? Instead the actor/actress usually portrayed the emotions and let us know, through that, what was going on in his/her mind. For instance, the jungle scene where Dutta's running with Naku. We don't hear his thoughts (we just hear fragments of Jagtap's words), but Dutta's expressions revealed his frustration and pain and wishes (oh my!).
In yesterday's episode, the scene with him started out really well. The way that he was talking to himself, saying his thoughts out loud. It was even okay to hear his voice-over thoughts here and there. But then! Then came Naku's reassuring words about the phone call (just like Dutta's words to Naku in the village when she needed to hear him say certain things). But honestly, this is a new thing that the CVs have started. Up until now, every emotion and thought has been displayed by the actor/actress themselves by facial expression or their own voice (realistically). And now suddenly, they're trying out this really weird (schizofrenic) thing where other people's voices voice their thoughts?
It's... laughable. I couldn't take it seriously. It ruined the scene for me. I've always loved the silence that came when Dutta was thinking about Naku. I could always see on his face what he was feeling, be it anger or regret or some other emotion. When he voiced his thoughts (in his mind or out loud), it was still realistic. But now they've started this "my wife/husband/someone else is talking inside my head and telling me what I'm thinking or want to hear" trend that I've seen on Ekta's shows a million times. It's one of those tricks that she uses because she assumes that her viewers are stupid and need everything to be explained.
It's just not... LTL. It's not realistic. It ruins a really intense scene. LTL has always been unique in the way it has let the actors display their thoughts on their faces, or sometimes used their own voices when thinking, but this whole phantom-voices thing is just bugging me. Naku telling her Saab that she'll pick up his phone call? Come on. It made me laugh. If anything, Dutta should've turned back toward the phone and thought: "Naku." Or something. And then they could've shown her getting some weird urge to reach a phone (if they wanted to play on the connection between them). But the schizofrenic thinking had me seriously bothered.
I didn't like it.
My thoughts on it.
