Abbas' 'fan'tastic break at home

Akash Wadhwa, TNN, Jan 29, 2011, 12.00am IST

Abbas Khan
During a recent visit to his home town Lucknow, Abbas Khan was surprised to know that he had such a huge fan following

A fan base
Actor Abbas Khan's recent visit to his home town Lucknow came as a shock to him. "I am not exaggerating, but I did not know that I had so many fans in Lucknow. I am shocked to see so many people recognizing me as Biji Pandey from "Laapataganj". It's nice to be loved by the people of your own city," says Abaas. Talking about his popularity, Abbas says, "Lucknowites love me so much on the show because I speak Lucknow ki zabaan in the show. In fact, when the director narrated the show to me, it was because of the Lucknow connect that I couldn't say no to it. It was offered to me while I was still doing "Bhagyavidhata"," says the telly actor.

One at a time
While most actors are doing a variety of shows on TV, Abbas prefers to do only one show at a time. "I want to give my 200% to every show I do. Which is not possible if you are doing two-three shows simultaneously. TV is quite demanding these days," says Abbas.

Not many people know that today an established comedian, Abbas initially wanted to do negative roles. "I always felt that I can be a very good bad man but as luck would have it I have only got comic roles." And after getting a dose of both comedy and saas-bahu serials, Abbas wouldn't like to do the latter anymore. "The reason for not doing a saas-bahu serial is that usme male characters ke liye abhi tak koi scope nahi hai. I don't mind doing second or third lead characters, but the role should be good and satisfying."

Break ke baad
Ask Abbas on how he spends his breaks in his hometown and he says, "By having loads of masti with my friends. It was after so many years that I indulged in patang baazi (kite flying) with my friends. I had been missing all this fun for so long," says he. "The rest of the days were spent visiting relatives and catching up on the latest goss."

Thanks for sharing. Despite the fact that he played a negative role in BVD, I still found a comic inside of his creepy avatar. He's indeed a very good actor & deserves all the encouragement & applause :)

Cheers,
Sana~
