Tulsi to act in local drama

Jamshedpur, April 7: Smriti Irani or Tulsi of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, a popular television serial, will be in the city later this year.

It will be a non-political trip for Irani, who is also a member of the BJP.

The Gujarat Club of Jamshedpur has invited the television actress to perform in the city in October.

Irani will be starring in a Gujarati drama scheduled to be organised at a city-based club.

Smita Parikh, president of the Gujarat Club, said Irani had confirmed her participation in the drama.

"She will stay here for about three days. Smriti will also perform in a show in Calcutta before coming to the city," Parikh added.

There had been a demand from the community to invite the popular television star to the city.

Apart from exhibiting her acting skills, Smriti will also take part in a series of programmes organised by various Gujarati women's organisation.

The host Gujarat Club will also felicitate the television actor.

Notably, it was because of the Gujarat Club's initiative that a grand function was organised at the BOC Pavilion last year.

According to Parikh, efforts are being made to rope in artistes of Ahmedabad-based Avishkar Academy, a socio-cultural organisation which is partnering the Gujarat government in popularising the "Vibrant Gujarat" — an initiative of the Narendra Modi government.

Although Smriti is a member of the BJP national executive, she is not going to attend any political functions during her stay in the city.

"The actress would rather stick to her image of a television personality," said sources in the Gujarat Club.
