Kailash banks on voice power

Kailash Kher is perhaps one singer in Bollywood, who needs no microphone as his strength lies in his voice. Hits like Allah ke bande and Tu meri jaan hai in Jassi jaisi koi nahin cemented his position in the industry.

Kher has been compared with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, for his style of singing. And the singer rejects suggestions that his unique voice may pose to be a limitation as far as playback singing goes.

"The scenario has changed today. The song and the situation matter the most. So I don't really have to worry about the actor am singing for," says the singer

His latest album Kailasa, which was recently released by A R Rahman in Delhi, promises to be another winner, with tracks like Teri Deewani.

Kailasa is also the name of Kailash's band. The album has nine tracks, one of which is of Buleh Shah Kaifi—composed in a Sufi style.

Kailash Kher says: "If you ask me about the album, then I will say that it's about love towards one country".

"Some people don't have faith in love but I believe in it. Everyone has a different definition of love, so I don't want to define my songs. But you will be able to understand what I wanted to communicate, with the emotions with which I have sung," he adds.

On asking him what he thinks about the new, young singers, who are chosen from so-called reality shows, he says: "There must be some spark in them that is why Indian public has chosen them. Producers and sponsors are pooling big money to give them a platform, and up to some extent I think they sing well. I like Abhijeet Sawant, he has a good voice".

The singer will be next heard in projects like Salame Ishq, Madhur Bhandarkar's Corporate, Fanaa and Babul.
