Part 86 - Early morning

Ever since Priya was born, Geet had turned into a light sleeper, so she wasn't at all surprised to open her eyes and find that it was still dark out. She was surprised to find herself held almost painfully tight in her husband's arms, until she remembered the previous night. Vicky's plan had worked flawlessly, resulting in the most beautiful night Geet had ever experienced. Laying contentedly in Maan's embrace, she wished for many more such nights.

With her head resting on Maan's chest, she could hear the steady beat of his heart, as the faint glow of the moonlight shining through the window glanced off the metal object also resting on his chest. Geet fingered the taveez gently, while smiling to herself, remembering how it had first come into her possession. As far as she knew, Maan had been wearing it constantly since he had first worn it on Savitri's insistence. Geet considered whether she should tell him the story, and decided that some day she would. At the moment, she was hearing baby noises from the monitor that indicated Priya would soon begin howling if her mother didn't come and feed her.

Geet tried to ease out of Maan's embrace, but as soon as she moved to free herself, she felt him tighten his hold even more. She also heard something unintelligible escape his lips, which she assumed to be a complaint against her attempt to leave. She smiled at his possessiveness manifesting itself, even when he slept. However, he was going to have to let her go sooner or later, and she preferred that it happen before their little angel exercised her increasingly powerful lungs, and woke the whole house.

Geet leaned up next to Maan's face, placing a kiss on his cheek, before whispering in his ear, "Your daughter needs me." Geet smiled as Maan immediately loosened his hold, responding to his daughter's needs, even in sleep.

Geet slid out of his embrace and moved the covers aside as she got up from the bed. Usually she would dash off to the nursery as soon as possible, but this time she had to make a slight detour first. Grabbing a robe from the closet, Geet quickly put it around her as she heard her daughter's cries become more insistent. Hurrying into the nursery, she picked up Priya, doing her best to sooth the baby who was impatient to be fed.

"Don't worry, my sweet one, Mama is going to feed you. We just need to get settled, just a few more seconds." Geet kept speaking in a soothing voice while she got herself and Priya situated for Priya's feeding.

"Now, isn't that better," commented Geet, as Priya's cries were silenced by the reason for them being addressed. "You were getting pretty loud at the end there. Did you want to wake up Papa, Dadi, and Chachu too? Afraid Mama wasn't going to come take care of you quick enough? Well, there's no need to worry. Mama loves you so much, she will always be there to take care of you."

"Papa loves you just as much, Priya. What a lucky little girl, to have two such loving parents." Maan spoke from his position leaning against the nursery door frame.

"Maan!" Geet was shocked to see him, since when she left him only a minute earlier, he had been sleeping. "What are you doing here?" she asked, as she scrambled to move the blanket to cover both her exposed skin and the nursing baby.

"I hear my daughter crying, and her mother speaking so sweetly, and you think I'm going to miss a moment of that?"

Maan moved closer, until he was standing right next to both of them. Geet could see that, just like her, he had put a robe on. Pulling a chair over, Maan sat down, and before Geet knew what he was doing, he pulled the blanket that Geet had draped over herself and Priya right off. Geet tried to make a grab for the blanket, but with Priya in her arms, was unsuccessful.

"Yeh aap kya kar rahe hain?" Geet tried to move her free hand to cover herself, but Maan held it fast in his much stronger one.

"Are you getting shy with me now, Geet? After last night?"

Geet blushed and smiled, turning her head away slightly. Then a frown appeared on her face, and she turned back, saying, "But, Maan, someone might come. Please give me back the blanket."

Maan shook his head, and stood up. He then walked over to the door and locked it. Coming back to his seat, he put one arm around Geet's shoulder, and the other moved so that he could trace Priya's cheek softly. Seeing the look of awe on her husband's face as he watched his daughter, Geet couldn't stop the tears that formed in her eyes and escaped slowly down her cheeks.

"What are these tears for?" Maan stopped caressing his daughter's cheek, and moved his hand to wipe away his wife's tears instead.

"Bas. I'm very happy to be with both of you right now."

"Oh, really. In that case, I want you to tell me something. Why did you decide to breast-feed Priya, instead of using a bottle? If she took a bottle, then I could feed her too, and you would be able to get a good night's sleep."

"That was an absolutely necessary decision. I saw the way you looked at Priya the day she was born. If I had let her be given a bottle, I never would have been allowed to hold her again."

"Don't be ridiculous, Geet!"

"Oh, I'm being ridiculous. Remember her Namakarana? You were so possessive of Priya, it was difficult to get you to hand her over to me, let alone anyone else."

"I'm her father! I have a right to hold her."

"Of course you do, dear. But I'm her mother, and Maa aur Bachcha need some time to bond, hai na?" Looking at the expression on Maan's face, Geet laughed, and said, "Don't pout, Papa. Your daughter has finished eating, and is waiting for you to do your expert burping."

Geet passed Priya over to Maan, who happily took her into his arms, and began patting her back, pleased to get his own bonding time with their baby.

Nothing Can Keep Us Apart

Part 87 - A question

With Priya fed and put back to sleep, Maan and Geet quietly left the nursery and made their way out into the hall. Geet closed the door soundlessly and turned towards their room. Maan's arm snaked around her waist, causing Geet to give a small yelp in surprise. She batted his arm away, gave him a stern shake of her head, and started walking to their room. Maan was not too thrilled with her attitude, and was determined to put a stop to it.

Coming up behind her, Maan picked up Geet in his arms, even as she protested, "Maan, what are you doing? Someone might see!"

"Let them see, we're married. But I don't think anyone else is up this early, so you're spared the embarrassment of your punishment being publicly known."

"Punishment?" questioned Geet, confused. What was this about punishment, that too, publicly? They were already back in their room.

"Of course, punishment. First you conspire to make it so that I have no opportunity to feed my own child, and then you also try to keep me from my fathers right to see her being fed. This requires big punishment."

Maan had placed Geet gently on their bed, before sitting next to her. With his face so near hers, Geet could see the naughty glint in his eyes. As his hand moved to the tie of her robe and his lips came ever closer to her own, his intentions were clear.

"Ek minute," said Geet, moving her face back and stopping his hand. "Before you get any ideas, I want a question answered."

"A question! Now? Geet, I'm not answering any question."

"You'll answer this one," replied Geet, putting her hand on Maan's chest and pushing him back slightly. "Why have you been acting so strange? Ever since Priya's illness, no even before that, it was like you would suddenly freeze up, and then find some excuse leave. What was that?"

Maan pulled back and looked away, clearly uncomfortable. Geet put her hand comfortingly on his shoulder and asked, "Kya hua? Tell, me, Maan."

Maan took a deep breath, exhaled, and the said slowly, "Every time I came near you, I could hear the doctor telling us to wait before having any more children, and all I could think of was after Priya was born, you almost died. I...I just can't stand the thought of anything happening to you."

Geet's heart melted at the despair she could hear in Maan's voice. Vicky had been right. Maan was scared of something. Geet moved from where she was sitting on the bed to sit on Maan's lap instead. His arms automatically moved around her waist as she put one arm around his neck, and the other hand moved his face towards her own.

"Maan, nothing is going to happen to me, and I did not almost die after Priya was born! I talked with the doctor and she said that there is no reason why I wouldn't be able to give birth again, without any complications. She just wanted to make sure that my body had enough time to recover completely between pregnancies. That's the only reason she mentioned anything. As for us having more children, if we have any more, that is a decision that you and I will make together, when we are ready. In the mean time, there is such a thing called birth control. I believe you may have heard of it."

That last was said in a teasing manner, causing Maan to respond by asking, "You think I'm being silly, don't you? I just...I can't forget that horrible feeling that I was going to loose you, and that Priya and I would be all alone."

"You'll never be alone," whispered Geet, as she pulled his face closer and touch his lips with hers, tentatively at first, and then more intensely as her desire took over.

When Maan started to remove her robe, she made no protest. Instead, she did the same for him. Allowing their passion to entirely take over, they silently reaffirmed the love and commitment they felt for one another.

No, actually Meera and Sameera are not related at all, only their names have similarities. Meera actually moved into the neighborhood right after the whole Sam thing blew up, and she and Vicky became friends. When Vicky introduced her to Maan and said her name, Maan got very angry, since he was still very sensitive about the whole thing. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
