| | Rekkha Modi | Smriti Z Iraani | "My fight has finally come to an end", said Rekkha Modi as she celebrated the verdict meted out by the State Human Rights Commission.
The body has asked Smriti Z Iraani and commissioner AN Roy to render a public apology to Modi over the way she was treated by the police officers.
When asked how she felt after the hearing, Modi said, "I am ecstatic. Finally, justice has prevailed and the truth has come out in the open. For eight months, I fought relentlessly and never gave up. I knew the law would be on my side as I was trapped and conned into something I never did."
Smriti was a friend
Does she think Smriti will render her an apology? "I think this is the right time for her to stand true to her character — Tulsi and show the people that she practises what she preaches. I can never forget the way I was treated by the policemen and the torture I went through because of her.
Smriti was my true friend, I wish she would have told me to my face whatever she wanted to, rather than backstabbing me."
Moral duty
The commission has also asked the Assistant Police Inspector Pingle of Oshiwara police station to pay Modi a compensation of Rs 20,000.
Her Lawyer YP Singh said, "Smriti Iraani, looked up as an icon amongst Indian women, should be magnanimous enough to come forward and apologise publicly. It's her moral responsibility to do so.
Also police commissioner AN Roy should be gracious enough to render a public apology for violation of law done by policemen, based on the complaint of a celebrity.
Smriti was unavailable for comment. Article taken from Mid-day:http://web.mid-day.com/hitlist/2006/april/134630.htm | |
