Hey everyone!

Sorry for the long delay but this post is really, really, really long so it should make some of you happy.

Just a note about the chapter since I incorporated a lot of American traditions...

For those of you who don't live in the States or aren't aware, Thanksgiving is a US (and Canada but they celebrate it on different day) holiday. It is always on the last Thursday in the month of November. It is a mixture of European and Native American traditions. European traditions state that a festival is held after a harvest cycle to give thanks and rejoice for a good harvest. Native Americans also celebrate a similar tradition. The story goes that the Pilgrims did not have enough food to celebrate the first harvest and the Wampanoag Native Americans help them by offering some of their food...and thus the first Thanksgiving dinner was held. (anyways if you want to read a more detail historical account here is the Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving)

Now the modern traditional Thanksgiving dinner includes turkey, stuffing/dressing, green bean casseroles, mashed potatoes with gravy, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. Of course every household has slight variations and other specialty dishes they may serve but these are generally considered the standard dishes for a Thanksgiving dinner. It is a time that families gather together and give thanks for the food and being able to be with family, friends, and loved ones. In the US the day after Thanksgiving is called Black Friday. This day was developed by the retail stores and marketers to get people to start buying gifts for the upcoming Christmas holiday. There are a lot of huge discount sales on Black Friday. It's an all day sale basically. Some stores start their sales on midnight Thursday while some open their stores at 4am to start their sales. It all depends on what you are looking for but you can get some pretty decent deals.

I've done a couple of Black Fridays. One year my friends and I went out at midnight Thursday and didn't come back home the next day until 10am Friday morning. We took a nap and went back out again ๐Ÿ˜†

Part 22: Thankful

Legs intertwined tenderly underneath white linen sheets in the dimly lit room as soft movements creaked along the bed. Heer smiled as Prem gently spooned her and nuzzled her cheek tightening the sheets around them to keep their bare bodies warm in the cool twilight hours of the early morning. She felt his hand slide around her waist and up her stomach before resting at her chest. She slipped her fingers through the spaces between his fingers clasping their hands together and brought his hand to her lips. "Good morning," Prem whispered into her ear.

Heer chortled at his comment. She had been awoken by her husband at some odd hour of the night only because he was in the mood. "It would have been...had it not been someone waking me up in the middle of the night."

"It's the only safe hour we have," Prem defended. "I held up to my part of the deal now it's your turn."

"So, construction will start by the beginning of the new year?" Heer asked.

"That is correct," Prem replied. "We'll stay at Ma's house during the weekends and during the weekdays at Preet and Meher's. We'll modify when need be."

"I really hate to inconvenience Preet and Meher...you know now that they have a baby on the way," Heer said.

"They've been adamant that they are okay with it. Besides Preet can practice his fathering skills with the kids...we have a permanent babysitter now," Prem said.

"Our kids will break him," Heer replied causing her husband to break out into heavy laughter.

"Our munchkins are devious devils aren't they?" Prem joked. "But they are kids...it's what's expected at their age. But we love them still the same."

"Yes, we do. I love them so much. And I love my wonderful husband too," Heer said kissing his hand again.

Prem tightened his hug pushing her back snuggly to his chest, "This morning seems to be pretty chilly."

"Well, at least the kids don't have to wake up and go to school today. It's always a challenge to make them wear layers," Heer said enjoying the warmth of having her husband arms around her. "Happy Thanksgiving."

"Happy Thanksgiving," Prem replied. "We should be able to sleep in today. The kids were pretty worn out last night. They went to Saloni's birthday party and had a blast playing with all kids there. I thought they would have collapsed when we got home but then they stayed up late playing with Maximus when Preet and Meher came over."

"We can't sleep in too much. We have to go to your mother's...we have to help her with the cooking," Heer said.

"I don't understand why she insists on making such a huge meal...turkey and everything," Prem sighed. "It takes us months to finish all the leftover turkey."

"It's tradition...it's what you serve...and you know the reason why," Heer answered.

"Yeah, for Bauji," Prem said. He then chuckled, "He really loved turkey...and the dressing...and the mash potatoes...and the cranberry sauce...and he really loved the pumpkin pie...he just loved food in general."

"I think it's rather sweet that your mother does that...in remembrance of him. Besides she loves to entertain...she always invites her friends and other families to come over," Heer said. "Hey, I just realized that Preet and Meher aren't doing anything this Thanksgiving...they usually go and visit Meher's parents but they are in India and Preet's parents decided to go to the islands to visit some family. Maybe we could invite them to come over. Ma won't mind, right?"

"You know her the more the merrier. But we should probably call her up first and run it by her before we invite them over though," Prem said.

"It would be great this way Meher and I can ride in one car for the Black Friday shopping," Heer squealed with delight.

Prem smirked at her excitement. "My wife is ready to buy everything in sight," he teased.

"Hey, I still bargain shop...and I've found some rather nice Christmas gifts before by shopping during Black Friday. I get great deals on the clothing...for the kids...my stuff...and as I recall I found some really nice dress shirts for you that you really liked," Heer defended.

"Okay, yes I did like those shirts," Prem replied. "But enough about shopping..."

"Right let's sleep," Heer said. She smirked as she felt Prem began to nibble her ear. "I was thinking about something else," he said as he brushed her hair to the side so he could spread tender kisses down her neck. Heer closed her eyes enjoying the sensation and arched her neck inviting him to continue his advances. She then rolled onto her back and wove her fingers through Prem's hair at the nape of his neck softly pulling him down on top of her. They kissed gently taking their time relishing the feeling of being together. Sweet murmurs and inaudible moans soon began to fill the room. Hands roamed and loving kisses where placed upon exposed skin. Legs tangled as two bodies slipped into perfect harmony. The sheets raised and fell in blissful rhythm as two souls expressed their deep and undying love for one another.

*************************************************

Gayatri Juneja was hustling around the kitchen trying to get everything ready for the big Thanksgiving dinner they would be having. She had some of her friends who were invited for dinner to come over the day before to help her do all the prep-work so everything would run smoothly for dinner tonight. She took out the ingredients that she needed to use to make the crust for the pumpkin pie and was setting things up when she heard to her delight the voices of her grandchildren.

"Grandma!" Leher and Ishaan screamed as they ran into the kitchen.

"My dears," Gayatri grinned giving them each a tight hug and a kiss on the cheek.

"Sorry Ma for being so late," Heer apologized.

"Nonsense. I just started myself. This morning was so cold that I sleep in myself. We got a lot of the prep-work finished yesterday so everything should go on without a hitch. I was just going to make the pie crust for the pumpkin pie," Gayatri said.

Heer unwrapped the scarf from around her neck and handed it to Prem along with her jacket, "Take the kids' too would you?"

Prem grinned naughtily as he stepped closer to his wife, "Anything you say," and purposely leaned in hugging her sideways as he kissed her cheek. "Preeemmm, your mother..." Heer whispered trying to detangle herself from her husband's embrace. Their children were too busy talking to their grandmother about what they learned in school that they didn't see their parents flirting with one another. "She is busy with the kids. I'm still love sick from this morning," Prem whispered back nuzzling her ear.

"Prem Beta when you are done flirting with your wife you think you can help make the pumpkin filling?" Gayatri said without turning her head towards her son's direction.

Prem face froze in surprise while Heer quickly moved away from her husband's grasp. "Haa, Ma...sure," Prem managed to say after the initial shock of getting caught wore off. "Okay kids jackets and scarves." Leher and Ishaan immediately started to take their jackets and scarves off and handled them to their father.

"Do we get to help today too?" Leher asked her mother.

"Yea, it was a lot of fun last time," Ishaan said.

"Why don't you two help Daddy with the pumpkin pie," Heer replied.

"Oh, you helped your Mommy bake something?" Gayatri asked her grandchildren.

"Uh-huh, we baked peanut butter chocolate cupcakes for Daddy when he came home," Leher replied.

"They were really good!" Ishaan said. "I love peanut butter."

Gayatri chuckled at their responses. "I'm sorry Ishaan but today we don't have anything with peanut butter in it."

"It's okay Grandma, Daddy says if I'm going to grow up big and strong like him I have to eat everything...I can't have peanut butter all the time," Ishaan said.

"Your Daddy is right," Gayatri replied.

"I know cause Daddy is the best," Ishaan said.

"What about Mommy?" Leher asked her brother.

"Of course Mommy is the best too," Ishaan answered.

"You can't have two things the best," Leher argued.

"Yes, you can," Ishaan said.

"No, you can't," Leher replied.

"Yes, you can."

"No, you can't."

"Yes, you can."

"No, you can't."

"Children," Gayatri interrupted causing them to stop bickering.

"Mommy and Daddy are the best," Ishaan said quickly trying to make his point to his sister.

"Okay Ma, where are the pumpkins?" Prem asked as he walked back into the kitchen.

"They are in the pantry on a sheet pan. I moved it in there because we didn't have enough counter space yesterday," Gayatri answered.

Leher and Ishaan followed their father into the pantry room where they saw two medium sized pumpkins. "They look small...not like the big jack-o-lanterns," Leher said.

"That's right these are called sugar pumpkins and they are better for making pumpkin pie than the really big pumpkins," Prem explained.

"Aww, we aren't craving them?" Ishaan asked in disappointment.

"We're eating them," Leher said. "I like pumpkin pie."

"Does pumpkin taste good with peanut butter?" Ishaan mused out loud.

"You know what I never thought of that combination. I really don't know," Prem said.

"Do you think we can try one day?" Ishaan asked.

Prem chuckled, "I don't mind but I'm not sure how Mommy would feel about that."

"It's okay we can ask her nicely Daddy," Leher said. "Mommy says she likes it when we ask her nicely and not yell. Ishaan yells all the time."

"I do not!" Ishaan replied.

"You do to," Leher retorted.

"Do not!"

"Do to."

"Do not!"

"Do to."

"Okay kids..." Prem said sternly causing them to stop and happily follow him back out into the kitchen.

Thirty minutes later Prem was sitting at the kitchen table keeping his children entertained while they waited for the pumpkins to bake. Heer and his mother had gone to the store to pick up some last minute items before they closed. Prem was in charge of watching over everything until they came back. The dressing was mixed and ready for baking while the corn and potatoes were boiling in their perspective pots. The kitchen was slowly beginning to fill with the smell of roasted pumpkin.

"Okay arms out," Prem instructed. "Ready?"

"Ready," Leher replied as she sat on her father's thigh with her legs tucked behind his knee tightly crossed. Prem held the back of her sweater and started to make noises like a plan lifting off. He began shaking his leg moving it up, down, and around. Leher giggled as her father commentated on the flight pattern she was flying. He dipped his leg down causing her to lose balance but since he had a firm grip on her sweater she didn't fall off his leg instead she rolled to her side. Ishaan watched and giggled jumping up and down with excitement knowing he would be next.

"Uh-oh, Leher crashed," Prem announced. He tilted her back upright and she got off his leg laughing uncontrollably.

"My turn!" Ishaan yelled.

"Wait," Prem said. "Got to change planes. This plane is tired." He pulled back his right leg and offered his left leg for his son to climb on to. Ishaan eagerly hopped on and waited as his father began moving his leg up and down and start his flight commentary. Ishaan started to protest in between giggles when his father began tickling him. "Sssstoppp Dddaddy itssss...notttt...fffair!"

"What's not fair?" Prem asked.

"Ttttticklinggg..." Ishaan replied.

"But you're doing so well," Prem said. Ishaan suddenly slumped forward laughing while Prem held tightly on to his sweater. "Uh-oh, another crash," he said as his son slide off his leg giggling. The timer on the oven suddenly went off causing Prem to announce, "No more planes will be flown today."

"Awwwww," his children whined.

"It's time to make the pumpkin pie," Prem explained. "You two can help me scrap the flesh off of the rinds." Leher and Ishaan nodded their heads eagerly. Prem went to the oven and took out the pumpkins that were sliced into quarters. He placed them on a cookie rack to allow them to cool. "Don't touch it yet they are very hot," he instructed his children who were looking on with great curiosity at the orange fruit. Prem then went to the back of the pantry door and took three aprons out. He put one on himself and then went about trying to find a way to wrap and alter the adult aprons so he could put them on his children. A few minutes and a few pieces of duct tape later his children had their own makeshift apron on. He stood back inspecting his work with pride. "Mommy is going to love me for this," Prem mumbled to himself. Just as he finished speaking those words his wife and mother entered the kitchen.

"Love you for what?" Heer asked. Prem smiled and showed his work causing Heer to laugh. Their children had the aprons wrapped around them like a towel with several stripes of duct tape running horizontally around to hold the tucked pieces of cloth together and two strips of duct tape running vertically acting as holding straps. "Prem, how are they supposed to move in those?"

"They just need to use their arms and hands. They shouldn't be running around the kitchen anyways," Prem answered.

Meanwhile, Gayatri had disappeared to go find her digital camera. She came back in the kitchen with a smile. "I think this is a perfect family picture. Heer go put on an apron," Gayatri said. She did as her mother-in-law instructed and then handed Leher a long wooden spoon and Ishaan a spatula. Prem went and got two stepping stools for the kids to stand on and the four of them posed for the picture. "Ma, why don't you come and take a picture?" Heer offered as she started to take her apron off.

"Let's take one with everybody," Prem suggested instead. "Heer keep the apron on. I'll go find the camera stand...should be in the closet right? Ma, you go and put on an apron." Prem was back within a few seconds with the camera stand and hooked the camera up and adjusted the height and distance accordingly. "Okay everyone stand still. Leher and Ishaan look at the camera. It will flash once, then beep, and flash again to take the picture." Prem set the timer and hurriedly ran over to stand behind his mother with Heer. Leher and Ishaan were standing on the step stools on either side of their grandmother. "Ready, say paneer!" Prem commanded as the camera went off. The kids giggled and happily repeated their father's order.

"Should we do one more?" Heer asked as Prem went to go check the camera.

"It looks fine but we can do one more," Prem said. "You know I think this would be great for those Christmas Holiday cards you send out."

"I was just thinking that," Heer replied.

The family took another picture and then everyone huddled around the camera to inspect the photos. "These will turn out nicely as holiday cards," Gayatri said.

"This is one less thing I have to do on my list now," Heer gushed.

"All thanks to me right?" Prem grinned proudly.

"You? No, to Ma of course," Heer answered. "She's the one that suggested we should take pictures." Prem pouted causing her to give an affectionate kiss on his cheek. "Stop being a spoil sport." He grinned and put his arms around her shoulder giving her a sideways hug. Heer melted into his arms enjoying the warmth he provided.

"Ewww, they are doing it again," Ishaan wailed after seeing his parents stare lovingly at each other.

"Grandma, Mommy and Daddy do this all the time...it means they really, really, really love each other right?" Leher asked.

Gayatri chuckled, "Yes, sweetie." She then murmured, "And if they keep doing this you two may end up with another brother or sister."

"A brother or sister?" Leher questioned.

"I want a brother!" Ishaan exclaimed.

"Well, I want a sister," Leher said after a few seconds of pondering.

"Brother!" Ishaan adamantly stated.

"Sister!" Leher countered.

"Brother!"

"Sister!"

Prem and Heer who were lost in their affection both froze when they heard their children arguing over the prospective of another sibling joining their family. Gayatri laughed at the facial expressions her son and her daughter-in-law were exhibiting. Their faces became even more alarmed when Leher suggested to her brother. "Let's have both...a brother for you and a sister for me."

"Yea!" Ishaan replied. "Both!"

"Can we have both?" Leher innocently asked her parents.

"Uhhhh...well...um..." Prem uttered not really knowing what to say. "Um, ask your Mommy..."

Heer stared at him wide eyed as he deflected the question and pushed it over for her to answer. Her children looked at her with innocent eyes as if she could just go to the mall and purchase them a siblings toy pack. "Well, Daddy and Mommy are thinking about another one. We don't know if the baby will be a boy or a girl...we can't really control that."

"Really?" Gayatri interjected with delight. "One more grandchild?"

"Haa, Ma," Prem replied with confidence.

"That's wonderful. But with the construction on your house it may get hectic," Gayatri said with some concern but then thoughtfully added. "Unless you can get pregnant when the house is almost halfway complete then it would be perfect...the house will be completed before the last trimester and you can rest comfortably in your new more spacious house."

"That would work," Prem said. "But it isn't an exact science."

"Well, of course these things aren't like that," Gayatri replied. "If you ever need your privacy I'll keep the kids occupied." Prem arched his eyebrows in surprised at his mother's boldness and flushed red. Heer was blushing as well. The way her mother-in-law had phrased her sentence made it sound like she was giving them permission to go sneak off for a few hours for some quality time.

"Mommy, can I ask a question?" Ishaan asked.

Heer looked at her son and smiled, "Of course."

"If you can't choose...then where do babies come from?" Ishaan inquired. All three adults looked stumped by the purity of his question. It was obvious he had been pondering hard on his mother's reply. He stared up at the faces of his parents eager for an explanation.

Heer looked at Prem who just flexed his eyebrows and stared back at his wife. This question was going to come up sooner or later they just assumed it would be later rather than right now. Giving the children the adult version of the conversation was out of the question and despite knowing the generic answer to this seemingly simple question they were afraid of what other possible questions they would have next.

"The stork brings the babies right?" Leher asked.

"But if the stork brings the babies...doesn't he know how many babies you want?" Ishaan asked.

"Well, you see the stork is just a messenger from God," Heer explained. "When two people love each other very much..."

"Like the way you and Daddy do," Leher answered with enthusiasm.

"Yes, like Mommy and Daddy do...and they get married, work hard, and are respectful to their elders...and do lots of good in their life...when they decide they want to have babies they go and pray. And if they are truly genuine in their prayers and are good people who try to live a good life...when God hears those prayers he sends down the stork as his messenger carrying a baby. God decides if the baby is going to be a boy or a girl..."

"Or twins like us Mommy?" Ishaan asked.

"Right...or twins...and the stork comes when Mommy is sleeping and magically puts the baby inside her tummy," Heer explained. Leher and Ishaan smiled brightly looking extremely satisfied with their mother's story.

"So when we go to the mandir we should pray for Mommy and Daddy," Leher mused.

"I'm praying for a brother," Ishaan said.

"I'm praying for a sister," Leher replied.

Gayatri smiled at her daughter-in-law extremely proud at how she handled the situation. "Okay...so, who wants to make pumpkin pie?"

"I do, I do!" the children shouted together and followed their grandmother to the counter where the cooled pumpkin quarters where resting.

"That was amazing," Prem complimented. "I couldn't have done it better myself."

"I'm a journalist after all...writing stories is my thing," Heer replied with grin. "This one was just a far stretch from the truth."

Prem chuckled and then said, "I'm going to pray for a girl."

"And I'll pray that your prayers are answered," Heer replied causing her husband to look at her with a lovingly grin. She then patted his chest, "Let's go help Ma and the kids. We still have a lot of work left to do." Prem nodded and followed her to the kitchen stove.

*************************************************

Prem was cuddling cozily with his children on a single sized bed as he read them a story. Leher and Ishaan began whining the minute he closed the storybook and announced that it was time for bed. "Can we have one more story Daddy?" Leher pleaded.

"Please?" Ishaan asked.

"I've already read two stories...no more tonight. It's time for bed," Prem replied lifting the covers up forcing a pouting Ishaan to slip out of the bed first so he could follow next. He then bent down so his daughter could give him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. "I love you Daddy," Leher said sweetly. Prem smiled as he tucked his daughter in bed. He placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, "I love you too." He turned to the left to see his son crawling into his bed. Prem received a hug and a kiss on the cheek from his son as well as he tucked him into bed. "I love you Daddy," Ishaan said. Prem kissed his forehead and smiled, "I love you too." He then walked to the door and lovingly said, "Goodnight...sleep tight," before turning off the lights and closing the door behind him.

Prem walked down the hallway of his parent's house and went into his old room where he and Heer were staying for the weekend. He found his wife unpacking and placing their things into the closet and dresser drawers. "The kids are all tucked in and in bed," Prem reported to Heer.

"You better go downstairs and save Preet from Mr. Johnson and his long winded stories," Heer advised.

"I should..." Prem replied but slipped his arms around Heer's waist and followed her around the room.

"Preemmm..." Heer pleaded. "It's a bit difficult for me to put things away with you sticking so closely to me like this. Prem ignored her and gently breathed in the scent of hair; a sweet lavender. He then rested his chin on her shoulder and hugged her tightly. Heer sighed as she felt him starting to nuzzle her neck. "Not now Prem...there are still guests downstairs..."

"What do you mean not now?" Prem asked. "The kids are tucked in asleep. The dishes are being washed in the dishwasher. Ma is busy chatting with her friends. The men are busy watching TV or being entertained by one of Mr. Johnson's long stories. And Meher is...where is Meher?"

"She's taking a nap in one of the guest rooms. She decided she would get some rest before coming out with me at midnight to do some Black Friday shopping," Heer answered.

"Okay, that's great. Meher is sleeping. Everyone is taken care of...we have at least 15 maybe 30 minutes before someone comes looking for one of us," Prem said.

"No, I'm not doing that with people downstairs," Heer replied.

"No, no, no is all I hear from you," Prem pouted.

"I don't say that all the time. And don't make it sound like I'm always denying you. What was that this morning? Hmmm?" Heer said with a slightly annoyed tone.

Prem arched his eyebrows in alarm. He knew better than to make her cross. If she was angry at him there would be no way she would allow him to get anywhere near her again. "That's not what I meant Sweetheart. Ma, is really happy with the idea of us having another one. And it isn't an exact science...just consider it practice."

"Practice?" Heer repeated baffled by his response. "I think you and I know exactly what we are doing." She heard him sigh loudly in her ear causing her to turn around and face him. She gently caressed his cheek. "We can't afford to get pregnant before the house is finished."

Prem sadly nodded his head, "I know."

"I love you," Heer said. "And I don't mind making out with my handsome husband for a few minutes. Can you settle for that instead?" Prem gave a gentle nod. She smiled and tenderly kissed him. He responded with a soft sweetness of his own as their lips danced with each other. He held her close with one hand while the other cupped her face. Heer placed her hands on his chest and rubbed them against his tight pectoral muscles causing Prem to moan gently into her mouth. She then slipped her hands upwards over his shoulder and around his neck. Prem slowly moved the hand that had been caressing her face downward making sure to grope the side of her bosom before settling it around her waist. The motion caused Heer to whine making him smirk with delight. He then sighed as Heer curled her fingers around his hair and gently played with the tuff as they continued to kiss. Eventually, Prem became bolder and started moving them towards the bed. Heer didn't protest and simply moved backwards. As her back hit the soft bed and her husband's weight came on top of her, she bent her left leg up forcing him to readjust himself. Prem ran his right hand down the side of her body and caressed her left leg causing Heer to moan. He then ran his hand back up but this time slipped it inside her red sweater so he could touch her soft supple skin. Heer let her left hand flow downward tracing his shoulders, his forearm, and then his wrist. She gripped Prem's wrist so he couldn't move his hand any further. As much as she was enjoying what was going on, her mind was concern over the guests that were still downstairs. Heer broke the kiss that Prem was in the midst of giving her and said, "We better go downstairs now."

"Do we really have to?" Prem pouted as he tired moving his face closer to hers.

"Yes, we do..." Heer replied moving her face from side to side avoiding Prem's lips. "I don't want to get caught in some embarrassing situation."

"What's embarrassing about being with me? Am I that unpleasant to look at?" Prem joked.

"Be serious, please," Heer said with a frown.

"I am being serious. Can I help it that I find my wife extremely attractive?" Prem replied. "One last kiss...pretty please?"

Heer laughed at the way Prem was puckering his lips. "Fine..." Prem smirked as their lips met again. He poured all the passion he could into the kiss making sure his wife knew exactly how he felt about her. Heer melted into her husband's embrace and forgot about everything. She could feel his fingers weaving around underneath her sweater again and she didn't really care. As things began to heat up between the two there was a knock at the bedroom door. They both groaned into each other's mouths and quickly stopped.

"The Johnson's are leaving..." Gayatri said through the white wooden door.

"Haa, Ma...we're coming," Prem replied. He got off the bed and straightened his shirt and offered his hand to his wife to pull her up. Heer pulled down her sweater and adjusted her bra strap making sure she looked presentable before they went down. Prem opened the door and was surprised to see his mother still standing there. She had a gentle smirk spread across her face. "I'm sorry if I was interrupting something." Prem rubbed the back of his head sheepishly while Heer blushed red and stared down at the floor. "Beta, you have something on your face..." Gayatri said pointing to her own mouth.

Prem looked at her in alarmed embarrassment and began rubbing his hands all over his face. He pulled them back to inspect if he had gotten whatever it was that was on his face. "Did I get it?" he asked. Gayatri shook her head. "I think your wife will be able to help you. See you two downstairs...soon I hope," she replied with a soft chuckle. Prem turned to Heer and gave her a sad puppy eyed look wondering what was on his face. Heer sighed and gently placed her thumb near the corner of his mouth and swiped. "My lipstick," she said. She then playfully hit his shoulder, "This is exactly what I'm talking about."

"Sorry," Prem said holding his ears with his hands.

"Let's go," Heer replied and held his hand with hers as they walked through the hallway towards the stairs.

*************************************************

Meher yawned as she came down the stairs and entered the living room to see Prem, Heer, and Preet were the only ones sitting in the living room watching TV. "Morning," Meher jokingly greeted even though the clock on the said it was now midnight.

"How are you feeling?" Preet asked.

"I'm actually okay," Meher said. She took a handful of candy like cough drops from her purse. "These preggie pops really do help with the nausea. I'm ready to go shopping."

"Remember we have a budget to stick too," Preet replied.

"I know," Meher answered as she slipped on her coat and then looked at Heer, "Ready?"

"Yes," Heer replied with enthusiasm. "Let's get going."

The two husbands smiled at their wives eagerness to start shopping. As they began walking them to the door, soft footsteps suddenly pattered behind them causing the adults to turn around. They saw Leher in her pajamas rubbing her right eye wondering where her mother and aunt were going at this time of night. "Where are you going Mommy?" she asked.

"What are doing up?" Prem asked as he crouched down to his daughter's height.

"I was thirsty Daddy," Leher explained.

"Okay, let's get you some water and then we'll go to bed," Prem said.

Leher stood still as her father tried pushing her towards the kitchen. "Mommy are you going out? Can I come too?"

"No, sweetie...you go with Daddy...I'll see you later at breakfast," Heer replied. She had the distinct motherly feeling that her daughter was not going to accept this explanation. Leher stood rooted to her spot and pouted. "Why can't I go too?" Heer gave a small smile and gently reasoned, "Because it is really late. You should be in bed sleeping."

"But I'm not sleepy anymore," Leher said rubbing her right eye again. "Please Mommy, can I come too? I promise to be good."

"Leher, come with Daddy," Prem said. "Don't you want to spend some time with me?"

"I wanna go with Mommy and Meher Auntie," Leher whined not listening to her father.

Meher looked at Heer with a worried expression as Leher's pleading started to turn into crying. Heer sighed and looked at Prem who shook his head. "Go now...I'll handle this." Prem bent down and picked his daughter up who was now balling. "Leher, stop crying..." he ordered. She didn't listen and kept repeating, "I wanna go with Mommy...I wanna go..." Prem motioned with his head for Heer and Meher to leave. "Mommy will be back soon. It's really cold outside...let's stay inside where it's nice and warm," Prem reasoned.

"I wanna go outside...Mommy!" Leher cried. "Mommy!"

Prem knew the only way he was going to stop her was to distract her. He quickly carried his daughter into the kitchen to give her the cup of water she wanted. He knew she was going to need it even more now that she was crying. Preet followed his friend into the kitchen and felt bad for Leher as she continued to call for her mother begging to go outside.

Meanwhile, Heer was driving the car out of the driveway heading towards the mall where she and Meher were going to meet up with Veera and the rest of the girls. Heer sighed heavily feeling guilty for leaving her daughter in that state. Even though she knew Leher was being unreasonable and behaving badly her heart still tugged at the sight of the tears on her face. "Things to look forward too," Heer eventually said out loud to Meher.

"How do you handle that?" Meher asked. "I think I would cave each time if my kid did that."

"It's tough. I felt so guilty the first time I did it...well, I still feel guilty...but it was really hard the first time...you know. I hate seeing either one of them cry like that but sometimes you just have to leave them...there isn't much you can do. You can't reason with them when they are like that. Eventually Leher will calm down," Heer replied.

"This makes me so nervous," Meher said.

"Relax, you and Preet will do just fine. It's not like Prem and I had any idea what we were doing when the twins first came. I mean our parents were giving us advice left and right...and I had all those raising children books that people had given me as gifts...it was a bit confusing all the advice we were getting. Eventually Prem and I decided that we were going to do what we thought was right and ignore what the psychologist said in those baby books or what our parents were telling us to do. The kids are now four and still alive...so we must be doing something right," Heer said.

Meher chuckled at her last statement, "They are alive...and they both love their parents a lot." Heer smiled at her comment. "So what do you think Ashlesha's good news is?" Meher asked changing the topic.

"I'm hoping...it's news that Rishabh finally proposed to her," Heer said.

"They've been dating for some time now and I can't believe he is still afraid of marriage," Meher asked.

"As he likes to say...he's already in a committed relationship and doesn't understand what is the big deal in getting married," Heer answered. "Prashant's tried reasoning with him...he is the new newlywed after all..."

"As opposed to us? The old newlyweds?" Meher laughed. "But you and Prem act just as bad as newlyweds."

"We do not," Heer protested.

"Why are you getting so defensive? It's good thing Heer," Meher replied. "Prem loves you a lot."

"And Preet loves you a lot too," Heer replied. "So, you think Prashant is going to be there with Sanjana?"

"I wouldn't be surprised. Wherever she is he goes," Meher chuckled. "They are like attached to the hip...those two are."

"I know. But if he's there he can help us carry the bags," Heer joked.

"Our own personal errand boy...he can go put our things in the car for us," Meher suggested.

"Exactly!" Heer grinned mischievous as she turned into the mall parking lot.
