The Audience in these shows are supposed to be intelligent, thats why they vote to select their favorite singers. But this year i felt there was an overdose of Punjabi songs. Regional flavor is welcome but it shouldn't go beyond a limit, if you can not understand wordings of a song, how will you know if the correct emotion and feel was put in the song by the singer or not? you will understand/like the tune and may end up humming it, if its tune strikes cord with you, but you can not judge it properly, ultimately you will rely on judges comments, but if that is the case why they have a voting system?

perhaps you didn't read my post and commented just on the title, i am not opposing punjabi altogether, but it is the overdose of it, not just kamal, ali sher has also sung in panjabi, so has a contestent eliminated very early on(i dont remember the name), i remember sugandha also singing some time back a punjabi song.
First read the post and then reply. Judges can comment cause they are experienced, a song has emotional content as well, a nicely sung song can make you feel happy, sad or even cry, that is not possible with song in a language other then those you understand. Try to understand singing is multi dimentional and if you really want to appriciate it you have to understand meaning of it. Gajalu is another curious case because, the chest urdu lines of some of the gajals is difficult to understand.

Well, it doesn't matter what songs they are singing. They can sing other languages too. All that should be judged on is SINGING.

The reason for the "overdose" of Punjabi is because mostly songs these days have a Hindi/ Punjabi mix. It's important for new singers to know Punjabi, Hindi, and English for modern Bollywood song.

I don't mind punjabi/influenced songs, some are very beautiful. Though sometimes, I lack the ability to connect with the singer when I do not understand the language.

They do have the right to sing what they enjoy, and that which accentuates their voice and skill :) So if it's punjabi, then be it. 😃

i do not understand why cant they sing it..even if it a overdose of punjabi songs.. lot of other ppl like me who like punjabi songs can say the same thing that why r contest singing hindi songs only why not any other language...it is nice to have a variety when a person is listening to songs... dont u get bored of listening to the same songs again and again..this way we get to listen to other songs and appreciate that type of music to.

This is another phase in Bollywood poetry. First phase was dominated by Urdu poetry. Urdu has dominated Bollywood songs for such a long time and now most people understand its meaning. Urdu could influence bollywood because it is such a beautiful language. Punjabis are fun loving people and also most of the classic love stories like Heer Ranjha happened here. Most of the Sufi songs, most of fun filled songs are in PUnjabi. Punjabi tunes make people dance and most people do not worry too much about meaning. After Urdu, it is Punjabi dominating bollywood in a different way. Saregamapa also seems to have accepted this reality. I can understand some people who wants to understand the meaning have hard times. I feel this is just another phase. People have fun at the expense of missing the meaning at times.

This is exactly what I've said in two previous threads that talked about this... eventually if these singers make it and become accomplished stars they will be singing Punjabi flavoured songs for composers because this is a trend in today's music, and it won't be going anywhere 😊
So young amateur singers, work on your Punjabi accents... it's for your own good
Plus understanding the words or the poetic meaning to a song isn't very necessary for it to touch you emotionally.. I'm punjabi by blood but it's only good for understanding daily conversations. When it comes to music I don't understand everything that's said poetically.
