My first post in this forum...
I have been living in the US of A for the past 15yrs and was born and brought up in India..so you could say that I have a fairly good perspective of both the countries!!
Though I haven't personally had many encounters with the Police except the traffic cops a couple of times in the US, ..I must say that it was a fairly good experience, and the cops did what they were supposed to do according to the law, they were courteous and respectful. I was nervous but was confident that I would not get duped or fleeced or bad mouthed.
But obviously that is not the case in India..be it the Traffic cop, or a cop in the Police thana or any one higher up except a choice few...Infact a lot of ppl are afraid to go to the police to ask for help and if they do get into their hands they are not sure whether they will be treated in accordance to the law. The horror stories of how women have been treated by the police and some have been police officers themselves..are all too well known!!...
If the Law maintainance force in India esp., the Police force were so reliable why would the rich get away with almost anything...the often repeated phrase..Janta hai main kiska beta hoon..could not ring more true!!

It is the necesity of the cops, the 'majboori' of the cops that makes them take bribes in India. Have you seen the income of a police constable in India? Me neither😆 Anyways, jokes apart, I can guarantee that it is not enough for a family man, especially when you have little kids who need a decent education etc.. Government should ensure that these people should get decent money to support a family and live in comfort a not the Type I quarters they are assigned, just imagine, a family of 4 being squashed into those few square meters of area. After all, these the protectors of law who are in the immediate grassroot level, where they see things from realistic levels.

Depends, you know?! Not everybody is doing what they're supposed to, and not everybody is breaking the laws. India may have got majority of corrupt politicians and cops, but I assume there maybe good ones too. Erm honestly, am not quite sure. 😆

Yes, they say necessity is the mother of invention, therefore perhaps a constable or any other lowly govt., official starts taking bribes in order to augment his income. But later it becomes a habit hard to break..lets say similar to gambling. Soon money/bribe becomes paramount rather than who is right and who is wrong. Therefore an average middle class person cannot expect to be meted out justice esp., if he has to compete against a person who can afford to pay a higher fees/bribe. Which makes the whole process a big Joke. Is this what we expect from a country which wants to be made a part of the Security Council?
