In which of the following do you think more characters may be allowed?

Hi,
It'd be better if each field prompts the person filling up his / her details as soon it exceeds the maximum number of allowed characters.
Some fields accept 255 characters.
While some others accept only 400 characters despite claiming that they would accept 500 characters.
As consequence, members including myself are finding it extremely difficult to add / append / update the relevant details.
Therefore, please do the needful at the earliest.
