Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning. A. Einstein
Avdesh was unable to catch up with his quarry, Lal Singh. His face, wrought with fury and frustration he stares after the car...after going to such length, disguising himself and his men....LS goes away so easily....
....At the haveli, Bhootni is decorating the house colourfully and fesitively, she didn't go to that much trouble for her devar's wedding!....She is all excited and aflutter, at last her vengenace will be completed, LS head will decorate a platter....Arpita is watching all with perplexness and slight shock at the other woman's bloodthirsty attitude....
Suddenly, a servant comes running...Avdesh is here. Bhootni goes running and starts her spiel about how proud she is that he has completed her vengenace, that he got LS's head and etc....Avdesh stood like a rock, his face hard and black with anger...At last he admit's his defeat - a slight smile tilt's Arpita's lips at hearing her husband has not committed murder - but Bhootni is devasted...she runs off and cries while holding the picture of her dead husband...Avdesh comes and has his emotional screws tightened even more as Bhootni continues on with her fake tears and words...🤢😡
Avdesh completely falls for her words and the guilt she lays on him....He is outside, washing the dirt and failure off him as he recalls his quarry's escape and bhootni's words....He suddenly see's Arpita praying and rage overtakes him as he rememberd her leaving words to him earlier in the day - whether to pray for his success or defeat.....He comes rushing to her and launches his attack, too blinded by guilt and emotional overload...He yells at her that she is the first wife to ever pray for her husband's failure.....Arpita looks on stunned, he cuts her off and storms off.....
Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruit. Kahlil Gibran
Arpita since hearing about LS being in the vicinty and seeing the change in her husband, has prayed for his safety and safe return. In a burst of honesty, she candidly told her husband she wasn't sure whether to pray for his success or failure but she would always pray for his safe return......This has come back to haunt her as Avdesh took out his frustration and fury on her, too blinded by his percieved failure and guilt to assimilate why Arpita said what she did, nor did he ask what she was praying for, instead jumping to conclusion. Yet he craves her love and the stability she represents, his yearning for her is palpable....he is secure enough in her love to lash out at her....for she is convenient....Arpita, like a strong tree, is buffetted by his temper but she will withstand all to stand straight once more....
My thoughts:
Well the episode was mostly about vengeance....and Avdesh's planned failure.....the guess at the moment is why Bhootni did that?...was it because she has links with LS or to keep Avdesh on a leash?....She knows him well and she played him very, very well...piling on the guilt....how much more can he cope with?...It is not about emotional maturity...all human's have a trigger point, some more explosives than others...for Avdesh, his trigger is his father and brother's death, his guilt at being the survivor and being grateful to have the guidance of bhootni....all this is used against him repeatedly to make him do bhootni's bidding, to blind him to the real reality....
Then we have Arpita, who married the man she loves...now she is living with the reality, which she often finds frightening and difficult to accept ...her love wants to make sure her husband is kept safe and is on the right path. She is young and inexperienced so says whatever is in her heart...and for most part Avdesh understands, loves her for her innocence, the one thing he lost at the age of 12/14ys when his world exploded......yet at his failure to catch LS, he is buckling under a tremendous load - a mixture of guilt, grief, fury, self recrimination and second guessing - he is looking to understand what happened, he see's Arpita and lashes at the convenient scapegoat. .......Most importantly, he is furious that he has failed her - as a husband. He knows he married her but that is all he had done. He has not made her his wife and cannot do that until his oath is fulfilled.....so that is one more load to bear....it is an explosive mixture.....Arpita needs to be stronger, not subservient all the time...she needs to speak up more, demand her husband's attention to her words and to her....
Avdesh for his part is blinded by what happened....we have seen him buckling under the load, caught in a trap that is slowly squeezing his reason for being....he see's his future in Arpita and his past in Bhootni and he is stuck in the crossroad, unable to go forward as the tangible fingers of the past holds on tight......His temper frays easily, and so far Arpita is the target...you only hurt the one you love the most...but when his temper cools and the rage lifts he knows she is not to blame....like the post drunk scene, we shall soon see another moment when he understands and acknowledges that Arpita is his and means him well....yet I feel worried, he needs to start questionning and not lay it all on Arpita....he really needs to see things for what it is and lay the blame where it squarely belongs. At Bhootni's feet. Yet that will be the very last veil lifted from his eyes, as even his mind will shield away from that...for his very foundation will be rocked and he will be lost. Arpita, will be his lifeline then, towing him back.
