Some of the actresses of Bollywood gave us stalwart performances depicting women power. These films truly establish the concept of "women of substance". Worth spending time upon these movies, to experience exactly what the power of a woman is, whether as a woman, a mother, a daughter, a lover, a sister or any relationship.

Wanted to share some of my favourite movies:

Multi-starrer: Lajja

Pooja Bhatt: Zakhm, Dil main ki manta nahin

Madhuri Dixit: Anjaam

Raveena Tandon: Daman

Juhi Chawla: Daraar

Vidya Balan : Parineeta ( movie has alterations esp. consummation part, not at par with the original)

Kajol: Fanaa

Sridevi: Lamhe

Smita Patil: Subah, Akhir Kyun, Mirch Masala

Rekha: Jeevan Dhara, Khoon Bhari Maang

Shabana Azmi: Arth

Jaya Bachchan: Silsila

Hema Malini: Ek chadar maili si

Sharmila Tagore: Mausam

Poonam Dhillon: Yeh waada rahan

Waheeda Rehman : Guide

Nargis: Mother India

Asha Parekh: Kati Patang

Meena Kumari: Kajal

In television world, I think not many shows can match up with Asha Parekh's productions "Kora Kagaz" starring Renuka Shahane.

please keep adding to the list...
my all time favorite is Akhir Kyun of Smita Patil...where it is shown how much a male character/husband can stoop down and how a woman rises up without anyone's help, just on her self confidence and strength...

I think I also missed Jaya Bachchan's Guddi and especially this prayer song which states

Hum ko mann ki shakti dena...mann ki jay kare
doosro ke jay se pehle khud ki jay kare...

bhed bhao dil mein na rakhe...
Dosto se bhool ho jaye...to maaf kar sake...

Dushman...

even mamtaz's "aandhi" as well as Suchitra sen's "aandhi" are awesome movies...depicting women power, their mistakes in life...best part is they never hesitated to accept what went wrong in their lives..

"Khoobsurat" of Hrishikesh Mukherjee starring Rekha...another great movie

Nutan - Saraswati Chandra
