They were into their third cup of coffee and couldn't help the smile when she thought that she would have to spend the rest of the evening in the restroom emptying her bladder. He asked casually why she smiled and she of course brushed off his question saying she saw something that reminded her of her old times. Their first meeting in the store had been an unexpected one for she was expecting to first talk to him over the phone before she got comfortable to meeting him. He was slow, he was shy, but he was not dumb. He couldn't have let the opportunity go wasted when he came to know she had been seeking his attention. He would have been a big fool if he didn't take the next step. And so, he had asked her for a cup of coffee and she hadn't refused such a tempting offer. They had been there at a cafe nearby for almost 3 hours. How they managed to talk for three hours, only they knew. They had played a silly but interesting rapid fire game where one would ask a question to the other and the questioner would also answer after the other had answered. Needless to say, by the end of these 3 hours, they had both known all the facts about the other and their life history, and perhaps the life history of their loved ones as well, she thought with a smile.
He received a phone call from a close from who had just moved to the US and he excused himself. As she watched him, she noticed his long and well shaped fingers when he made hand gestures while talking. He was not the most animated person, but he wasn't a statue either. She was an eagle eye herself, observing such details about people. And then he put his hand in his pant pocket which brought back the first image of him at the party. This is how she had seen him the first time, talking to someone on the phone while his other hand was in his pocket. He leaned his lower back on a wall bending a little forward with one leg bearing all his weight while his other leg was bent perpendicular to rest against the wall. There was something about his form that was alluring. She occasionally stole glances at him and her eyes followed him to wherever he walked thence. And then when their eyes had met for a brief moment, her heart had skipped a beat. She felt delinquent for being caught at stealing glances. Thankfully some elderly person, whom she assumed to be his granny, had patted on his shoulder and he turned, which was enough time for her to run and hide some place where even her shadow could not be found. As she walked away, she saw her cousin standing next to him. She had been too mortified to come around where he could possibly see her again and so she stood in one corner, with a big man covering her. And soon after, saw him leave. She had not been able to get rid of his image from her mind the whole week.
And then, she saw him again in the elevator of the shopping mall a week later. Not sure of what he thought of her, or whether he thought about her at all or not, she put up a pretense of being ignorant, not acknowledging having seen him before. But when she had collided with him, she could not help herself from looking at him to apologize. She had not wanted to let go of such a wonderful opportunity to look and see what he was like up close. When she turned back to face away, she felt his heart racing against her back. Of course she had stumbled back to collide with him, but she dared not to step a little forward to create some distance between them despite there being room in front of her. And when she felt his heart throbbing against her back, she knew she wasn't the only one affected by their sudden contact. She was thankful that he was behind her so he couldn't have seen or felt her chest heave like a pendulum at the sudden strike between them. So affected she was, that she got off on the next floor the elevator door opened and didn't realize when her scarf dropped from her hand in the rush.
Of course she gave him too much of her time, thinking about what had happened. She abandoned all inhibitions and called her cousin, who apparently knew him, to get some information about him. And so she plotted whatever followed thence, in the music store. And now she couldn't be thankful enough to her cousin and her mastermind for she thoroughly enjoyed his company. She never thought she would develop such affinity for coffee and couldn't help but wonder if every coffee would be as scrumptious as these, with him.
