Hi everyone!

So I'm back and yes another surprise update. I was looking over some due dates for some projects and realized there are a lot of things I need to do 😵 which means don't know when the next update will be up. I decided to put you guys out of your misery from this cliffhanger sooner than later...see aren't I nice? 😆

Chapter 54: Truth is Stranger than fiction

The dining room turned tense with Sanjana's entrance as she held her cell phone in her hand and looked accusingly at Prashant. "It's all been recorded in this cell phone. Do you want to confess now or shall this do it for you?" Sanjana asked.

Prashant stared at her wondering if she was bluffing or not. He was trying to figure out if this was just some trick she was playing to get rid of him so she could fulfill her own agenda or if she was for real. As everyone waited to see what was going to happen next, three more people walked through the dining room archway to join in the discussion. Prashant's eyes widen in fear as he saw Kunal and Sang drag Barney into the room. Kunal looked around the room and sensed that something had already happened by the expressions on everyone's faces. His eyes narrowed glaring questioningly at Sanjana and what she was up to.

"Sorry we were late," Sang simply stated. "There's a person of interest that I think everyone needs to meet."

"No reply? Prashant?" Sanjana said. "So be it then." She pressed the play button on the cell phone letting the audio recording do the talking. It was clear from the audio Prashant was speaking to Daljeet about her holding to her side of the deal. Prashant would make sure that Ashlesha would get married to Prem if she kept quiet about him trying to take the land. Everyone turn and looked at Prashant and then Daljeet. Balwant was flaring his nose in anger at his wife while she lowered her head wishing she could just crawl into some space and disappear.

"How could you Mom?" Ashlesha asked.

"I was only thinking about your future," Daljeet defended.

"My future? I am thinking about my future. I'm going to be a doctor...you think I came all the way to Canada to go play?" Ashlesha replied. "You know what that land means to our family and you just used it as a bargaining chip to secure a husband?! I never wanted this engagement in the first place and neither did Prem. We were just pretending until we found the evidence we needed to expose Prashant and his family." She then looked at Heer, "Why aren't you saying something?"

"Everyone's been yelling at each other," Heer replied. She then looked at Balraaj, "I'm sorry Papa," and took off her engagement ring. "I should have told you this sooner. I love Prem." Her father looked at her completely speechless there were so many things wheeling through his head that he was having trouble focusing on all that was going on.

"Prashant pushed the marriage between Prem and Ashlesha so Prem would be forced out of the picture and stay away from Heer," Sanjana said. "With Prem preoccupied he wouldn't interfere and meddle with Prashant's plans."

"This is just a fine mess," Rajeev grumbled under his breath.

Prashant snickered and started clapping dramatically, "Nice going Sanjana...well played. But I think everyone needs to know about you too. Don't any of you think she's the great friend who decided to save the day. She has her own agendas...Prem. She's the one who decided to team up with me to try to drive a wedge between Prem and Heer's relationship. Tell me Prem how was it that I was able to catch you in my room? It was your dear friend Sanjana there that sent the text message."

Prem stared at Sanjana with a complete look of betrayal and anger. Sanjana lowered her eyes to the side. "It's true'I was at first but when I found out about what he was doing I couldn't let Prashant get away with it. He was causing trouble for your family...messing with the business...all the land deals not going through." Sanjana then briefly glanced at Kunal, "There was also a really good friend who made me see right from wrong."

"Land deals...the hotel real estate?" Lalit faintly replied trying to register what Sanjana had just divulged.

"Guess it's our turn now," Sang replied as he nudged Barney who was quietly observing everything.

"What Sanjana said is true. I was hired to find out everything about the Juneja hotels and your business. The plan was to distract Mr. Juneja with the real estate deals. Make him unavailable and preoccupied so much that he could barely spend time with his ailing friend so he wouldn't be suspicious of Prashant's questioning about the Maan business and land. Under a fake company name we hired the top real estate agent to make sure whatever Juneja Industries were looking at we would be looking at as well," Barney explained.

"Vinay Bindar," Lalit grumbled clenching his fists. Harman and Maya swallowed uncomfortably at his reaction.

"After we set that all up I was instructed to follow Prem around and take photos and document what he was doing. That's when we found out that Heer and Prem were seeing each other. I was ordered to snap photos of them as possible blackmail pictures for later use. All photos and the land deeds where being kept in a safety deposit box in a bank near the hotel. Only Prashant and I held the keys," Barney said. "From my knowledge Prashant was planning to get a signature from Mr. Maan and then transfer that onto some new land deed issuing a transfer of ownership to the Chabaria family."

"Here's everything that was in the safety deposit box," Kunal said as he pulled out several folders and a couple of SD memory cards.

Balraaj and Balwant started combing through the folders and saw a copy of the deed to their family land, several fake copies with transfer papers included, the sticky note instructions to get signatures, and some more pictures of Prem and Heer being together. The more the two brothers stared at the evidence in front of them the angrier they became.

"Here are the transfer print outs from the bank confirming that Prashant was paying Barney for his services. That's what took us so long to get here," Kunal said as he placed the papers on the table.

Balraaj stood up from the table and pointed with his finger towards the entranceway, "Get out. The engagement is over and Rajeev, any contract we have with you is out. I trusted you and thought you were my friend but instead you decided to cheat me and my family. And here I was ready to give you one of my precious treasures, my daughter to you. Get out!"

"Wait just one minute," Teji intervene much to the dismay of everyone there. She walked straight up to Prashant and gave him a hard slap to the face. "You tried cheating my family and worst of all you knew and didn't disclose Balraaj's condition to make sure the wedding went through to get what you wanted." Prashant stood stunned cupping his face looking at Teji realizing she had found out. "How dare you...that's right I found out because Dr. Harrison just called and informed me that he's fine."

"What?" Balwant asked.

"I'm fine," Balraaj said in a low whisper unable to believe what he was hearing.

Lalit walked to Rajeev and extended his arm out pointing towards the door. "I think you can see yourself out. You are no longer welcomed here anymore. I don't want to see any of you near the Maans again. I think you've done enough damage...you should be ashamed of yourselves. Please leave." Rajeev had nothing else to say as everything they had been hiding had been exposed. He put his arm around his wife who was in total shock at what had just occurred and walked out of the dining room with Prashant following closely behind heading towards the front door.

The atmosphere slightly relaxed at the Chabaria family's exit. But the tension was soon back as a sudden loud slap echoed through the room. Everyone turned to see Daljeet holding her cheek. Her husband was livid. "How could you. I was holding everything in until we got them out of the house. You, my wife...could do such a thing? I know you want to get Ashlesha married but to do it in this fashion? That is simply unacceptable. Aren't you ashamed? I feel so ashamed I can barely look at Balraaj and Teji. I think it's best you leave...get out. I don't want see you again."

"Balwant," Balraaj said in shock.

"I'm sorry Bhaiya...I'm so sorry," Balwant apologized.

Ashlesha knew her mother had done wrong and she needed to repent but she never expected this reaction from her father. He was basically throwing her out. Daljeet raised her hands crying, "I apologize for letting my motherly wishes for her child get in the way. I just wanted to see her happy. I'm so sorry." She looked at her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, "I know what I did was wrong but I couldn't help myself...I have done a grave injustice...I'm sorry. I'll take my leave." Daljeet calmly walked pass the table and raised her hands towards Lalit and Gayatri, "I'm sorry. Thank you for the hospitality," and then walked out the door.

The remaining younger members of the family looked about them wondering what was going to happen next. There had been so much divulged in a short time span that everyone was reeling from the news and all the slapping and orders to leave. Prem knew it was his turn to apologize for the way things had occurred. This was not the way he wanted to tell Balraaj that he was in love with his daughter. Having her father find out that he was seeing Heer while she was engaged painted a very poor picture of him. "I'm sorry Uncle," Prem said as he folded his hands in front of him. "I know I've made some poor choices...to do these things behind your back." Prem winced at the contact of Balraaj's hand against his cheek. Lalit attempted to say something but Balraaj held his hand in the air. "This is my matter Lalit...with your son." He then continued without looking away from Prem. "Nihaal, take your sister upstairs. Mr. Juneja and I have something to discuss."

"Yes, Papa," Nihaal said and held Heer's arm pulling her away. With tears streaming down Heer pleaded, "Please, Nihaal don't." Her brother refused to listen, "These are Papa's orders." Meher, Ashlesha, Veera, and Maya were soon following behind as Nihaal dragged his sister up to her room.

"In the office now," Balraaj commanded. Prem obediently followed him while his parents along with Teji looked on in worry.

*******************************************************************

Heer sat on her bed with her legs pulled in front of her resting her head on her knees crying. She didn't know what was going to happen next especially since her father had just slapped Prem. Her fears that her father would reject their union swam through her mind and she felt sick to her stomach. She didn't know what she would do if couldn't be with him.

Meanwhile, just outside her room her brother Nihaal was standing at her door like some sort of guard. Meher put her hands on her hips in frustration at her brother's attitude. "Nihaal Bhaiya move aside. It's us her sister and cousin. What do you think we are going do? This is a three story house and she doesn't have a tree near any of her windows. Would you stop being stupid and let us in?"

"Come on, seriously Nihaal...she's needs us right now. After everything that just happened downstairs...and you say you are her brother...your heart made of stone?" Ashlesha accused.

Nihaal sighed rolling his eyes unable to take their nagging. "Fine," he said and stepped aside to let them into the room. He looked at Veera and Maya with a questioning gaze.

"We're with them and you're a guest in my house so don't you even dare," Veera replied giving him a stern look as she and Maya walked past him.

"Heer Didi," Meher said softly as her sister lifted her head. Meher immediately sat by her side hugging her and gently rubbed her back. "Everything is going to be okay."

"We don't know that," she sniffled.

"No way Uncle is going to reject Prem. Come on he saved the family land," Ashlesha replied. "That slap was probably for secretly hiding things from him."

"Worst comes to worst I say just elope," Veera said. Heer stared at her amazed by her comment. "It's obvious Prem Bhaiya loves you a lot and you love him too...why separate two people in love?"

"Thanks Veera," Heer replied.

"You know the one that really surprised me in this whole situation was Sanjana...who knew?" Maya said. "I just hope she's for real and not playing around like Prashant accused."

"I know," Ashlesha agreed. She then looked at her cousin, "Heer, I have to say sorry on my Mom's behalf. I can't believe she did that."

"She was probably manipulated by Prashant to pick Prem," Heer replied. "You don't have to apologize for that. I'm just glad Prashant is out of our lives for good."

"Here, here to that," Meher cheered.

Sanjana stood in the backyard of the Juneja household taking in some fresh air pleased that she had successfully accomplished her mission. She turned around when she heard footsteps behind her and saw Kunal with a rather apprehensive look on his face. There was a brief moment of awkward silence between them before Sanjana decided to speak. "I'm sorry. I haven't been a very good friend," she apologized.

"So is it true what Prashant said back there?" Kunal asked.

Sanjana nodded her head. "Yes, it's true. At first I did want to separate them and see Heer hurt but when Prem got engaged and I found out that Prashant had been lying to me I decided I was going to expose him. In the beginning I was doing it for my own selfish reasons but the more I found out about his plan and how he was going to steal the land and do all these things to Prem's family...I ended up hating Prashant. And what you said to me about being a friend kept playing in my head...I couldn't believe that I had allowed my feelings cloud my judgment...that I was working with a low life...I didn't like what I was becoming. And the truth is I knew Prem never saw me as anything more than a friend. He wasn't ever going to see me as anything else. I realized that if I truly cared for him then I would have to let him go and be happy with the one he wanted to be with...just trying to hold onto him for my own selfish reasons wasn't love. That day you ran into me at the hotel...yes I was the one who sent Prashant that text message. I figured I had to do something to show I was loyal to him otherwise he would begin to doubt me and not let me in on what he was doing. I wanted to tell you but I knew in order for my plan to work you had to doubt me. At that point in time I had already recorded the conversation between Prashant and Daljeet and was waiting for the best time to expose them. I was the one that text messaged Barney to meet me at the bank this morning so you guys could catch him. And I knew you would expose Prashant the minute you had the evidence in your hands. I was outside the bank observing everything and when I saw you guys leaving the bank I came here. I figured Prem would leave the door unlock so you guys would be able to come in and pull the surprise on Prashant and his family. I'm really sorry for the things I've done and I can understand if you don't want to be friends with me again."

Kunal looked at her and then pulled her into a hug, "It's good to have you back Sanjana." She smiled enjoying the friendly affection. "Are you going to be okay? Letting him go?"

She stepped back and nodded. "Can't say I won't be heartbroken but I think I'll survive. But if you will excuse me there's someone else I need to go speak with." Kunal grinned in understanding and watched her as she walked back inside the house.

The girls were busy talking trying to keep Heer in good spirits while they all waited for Balraaj's announcement on what was going to happen to Prem and Heer's relationship. They all turned their heads to the door when they saw Sanjana come walking into the room. "I'm sorry to interrupt," Sanjana greeted. The girls glanced at Heer who simply nodded causing them to leave the room so the two could speak in private.

"I'm really sorry Heer," Sanjana apologized. "I never thought I would ever do such a thing...but I did."

Heer remained calm and simply said, "Apologizing to me isn't going to change the fact that you hurt Prem a lot today. He trusted your friendship and you let him down."

"I know I did," Sanjana answered. "I feel ashamed for my actions. But you don't have to worry I won't interfere again."

"You love him?" Heer asked.

Sanjana blinked back a tear, "I care for him deeply and when I found out what Prashant was really doing I realized I was wrong...a true friend wouldn't have done the things I did...if I truly loved him I wouldn't have been selfish like that." She gave a tiny grin, "Take care of him..." then chuckling in embarrassment, "who am I kidding of course you will. Bye."

"Bye," Heer replied and watched Sanjana leave her room. She felt a strange sadness for Sanjana's situation; falling in love with a friend who would never feel the same way. Heer continued to sit on her bed trying not to think too much about what was possibly going on between her father and Prem. It wasn't long before her bedroom door opened again this time it was her father standing on the other side. "Papa," she said and then immediately stood up folding her hands in front of her, "I'm so sorry. I know I've disappointed you so much."

Balraaj sighed, "I'm disappointed too. Disappointed that you couldn't come to me and tell me the truth." Heer stared at her father through watery eyes as he clasped her hands and moved them down. "I wanted to make sure that you had someone to take care of you...and I thought I found the perfect person to do that for you...a life partner...someone to support you during the hard times and to celebrate with during the good times. I'm disappointed in myself that I made you feel like you couldn't tell me...that I wouldn't understand."

"No Papa, you gave your word to them at the time...that was before I even knew how Prem felt about me...it was your last wish," Heer replied. "But then later I went back on my word to you...going behind your back and seeing Prem like that...I'm sorry."

"My word and honor almost made me lose everything. The most important thing should have been your happiness...nothing else should have mattered," Balraaj said. "My question to you now is why should I agree to this relationship you have with Prem Juneja?"

"He comes from a good family, he's a hard worker...always applying himself in any situation, he's generous, he treats everyone with equal respect regardless of where they are from or the amount of money they make, he never gives up until he reaches his goal," Heer answered. "He can make me laugh even when I'm feeling down, he is always there encouraging me...supporting me, and most of all he values family."

"I think I heard enough," Balraaj simply replied and walked of the room.

Heer nervously stood there unsure if that was a good response or a bad response from her father. She lifted her head again and saw Prem standing at the door; his head was lowered his boyish bangs touching his eyebrows. He seemed disheartened and troubled by something. His dejected form only heightened Heer's anxiety causing her to silently shake her head. Her trembling finger tips touched her mouth in disbelief unable to take the silence that seem to confirm her fears that her father had disapprove of their relationship. She could feel her tears welling up behind her eyes as he lifted his head up to finally look her in the eyes. Then ever so slowly Prem's lips curved up into a wide grin as his eyes sparkled with joy. He nodded his head which Heer mimicked for confirmation. He raised his arms up and motioned with his hand for her to come. Heer ran into Prem's arms knocking him slightly from the force of her hug and burst into tears. He grinned even harder as she began banging her fists against his chest for playing such a cruel joke. "I hate you," she cried.

Prem chuckled, "I love you too." He held her tightly feeling an extremely fulfilling warmth and happiness within him, "Now we don't have to hide anymore. No more sneaking around...no more hiding in each other's rooms. Everything will be out in the open."

"If you think Papa is going to let you sleep in my room than you're dreaming," Heer said sniffling through her tears.

Prem grinned at her joke. "Okay, maybe there will be some sneaking around...but he can't possibly bar a husband from his wife now can he?"

Heer looked at him her eyes still glistening from the tears that had been flowing a few seconds ago. "Prem?"

"You think they are really going to waste all the decorations downstairs?" Prem replied. "What you don't want to get engaged to me even after I confessed my love for you in front of the entire family?"

Heer shook her head, "No...I mean everything is happening so fast...I want to be with you...but with work, school, and everything...I love you...you know that...and I know this will eventually happen..."

Prem chuckled at her nervous response. "I understand Heer...you don't have to explain. I feel the same way. I want to us to enjoy ourselves for a bit and I think we need some time to settle things with school and work. Let's get officially engaged and then get married when school is done...that's about a month away...that way both our families from India and the US will have enough time to come and celebrate with us. I think our parents would agree to hold things off for a month. And we will be on summer break which means we can take a nice long honeymoon before school starts again."

"I like that idea a lot," Heer grinned. "And you will be out of your cast by then."

Prem raised the right hand and glared at his blue cast, "Yes, finally I'll be rid of this darn thing!" He then smirked as he inched his face closer to hers with each word he said, "And I'll be able to tickle you, hug you better, and love you properly..." Heer's cheeks flushed a crimson red at his last comment and she shyly lowered her head avoiding his gaze. "Ah-oh, what happened to that bold Heer in New York? What do you think is going to happen during the honeymoon?"

Heer slightly pushed him, "Preeem..."

"You know newlyweds tend to lock themselves in their hotel rooms for a good bit of their trip," Prem teased.

"Remember now I have to be in the mood," Heer replied back.

"Ah," nodding his head with a knowing grin, "I promise to take you to Switzerland...we'll register for that S.O.T.C tour," Prem said. Heer eyed him with a tiny smile. "Any other place you would like to visit?"

"Italy," Heer answered eagerly.

"Okay, I'll take you to Switzerland and Italy," Prem confirmed. "So can I get a kiss for that?"

Heer smirked, "Yes, you can..." then whispered softly as she teasingly moved her lips in front of his, "...and much more..." Prem leaned forward to capture her lips only to be roughly pushed away. He furrowed his eyebrows while Heer laughed at his expression. "On the honeymoon...that is..."

"So cruel," Prem replied.

"That's what you get for messing with me earlier," Heer said.

"I'm sorry," Prem pouted and held his ears. "Forgive me, pleaseeee?" She giggled as he went down on his knees still holding his ears. "Pleaseeeeeee?"

"I don't know..." Heer playfully pondered and turned away from him. Prem wobbled his way around and continued to plead. "Okay, fine," Heer finally replied unable to take anymore of his begging. Prem grinned and stood back up. He then began to gaze intently at her causing her to feel self conscious. "Prem, stop doing that," she hesitantly said. "Stop doing what?" he replied as he began walking forward. Heer swallowed hard as she felt her back hit the sturdy wooden door. "We should go downstairs...everyone's probably waiting for us...aren't you hungry? We still haven't had lunch yet," she rambled. "Lunch can wait," Prem answered as he placed his hands on either side of her body. "You owe me something..." he whispered as he gently brushed his nose against her cheek. "I'm not going until I collect it..." Instinctively Heer's eyelids lowered and her heart raced at the feel of his warm breath against her skin. She tilted her head back as their lips finally made contact; her hands went to his shoulders and then slipping around to his neck and back pulling him closer. Prem grinned at her response and continued to explore her mouth with his tongue in their intense lip locking session. Suddenly there was a loud gurgling noise causing Heer to break the kiss and start laughing. Prem's face turned red as he grumbled something inaudible. She patted his cheek, "Lunch can wait, huh? Come on let's go get you something to eat. We can continue this later." Prem pouted with a frown as Heer took his hand into hers and opened the door to head down to the dining room.

*******************************************************************

Preet and Harman were sitting at the dining room table gorging themselves with food. "What?" Preet asked his mouth full with dal and rice.

Meher sighed, "How can you eat at a time like this?"

"How can I? What about Kulraj Di and Rishi?" Preet said pointing towards his sister and nephew.

"She's pregnant and he's a kid," Meher replied. "We don't know what the parents are going to say about Prem and Heer Didi's relationship."

"I've already asked Ma and she said it was okay to eat," Harman answered.

"Meher, sit down and make yourself a plate of food," Kulraj said. "Prem did a great thing today. I'm sure your father who may be upset right now will realize Prem's true intentions and love for your sister. You still need to eat something. Come, sit." Kulraj then motioned for the rest of the girls to sit down and joined them for lunch. Meher nodded and followed the Veera, Ashlesha, and Maya to the table and began serving themselves food.

Kunal and Sang soon entered the dining room eagerly eyeing the food. They had just finished reporting to the elders in more detailed about their part in uncovering the truth of the Chabaria family. Needless to say the Maans were very grateful for their help. "So, who wants to bet that the parents are going to get them engaged?" Sang asked curiously.

"How much?" Kunal replied back.

"You seriously are going to start betting after all that drama?" Meher asked tensely.

"Okay, that seems to be a no for you," Sang answered ignoring her serious remark.

"No, the real question is...are they going to get married this week," Harman said joining in on the conversation.

"The decorations are all up and set for celebrations," Ashlesha replied. "Would be a shame after all the money that was spent on them...to take them down without something happening would sort of be a waste."

"Ash, you too?" Meher gasped.

"Oh, don't be like that. Have a little faith," Ashlesha said.

"I think they won't get married until school is let out," Veera said. "We have one more month until we're done and out for summer vacation."

"You think they will have it in India?" Maya asked.

"Like a full scale Indian wedding? The groom comes riding in on an elephant?" Preet asked his eyes dancing with mischief thinking of all the things he could torture his brother with.

"I never got to go to India...would be nice," Harman said.

"If it's in India how am I suppose to go?" Sang whined.

"I'll stuff you in my suitcase," Kuanl joked causing everyone at the table to burst into a fit of laughter.

*******************************************************************

Prem and Heer came walking down the stairs hand in hand and saw that their parents along with Nihaal and Kiran were sitting in the living room discussing something. The group turned their heads when they heard the young couple come walking in. Lalit grinned widely. "Look at that already displaying such openness in front of everyone." Prem and Heer looked at each other and then at their hands and quickly stopped holding hands.

"You've embarrassed them," Gayatri said. "Look at how red they are turning." Everyone laughed causing them to turn even redder. "Come, come...let's go eat lunch."

"Just one minute," Balraaj said. "I think we should settle something right now. Their official engagement...don't you think Lalit?"

"Yes, indeed," he replied.

"You think you can get some friends and family over by the end of this week?" Balraaj asked.

"Gayatri and I will start the minute after lunch. I don't care what time it is in India...I'll wake them up if I have to...to share the good news," Lalit grinned.

"It would probably be pushing too much for a wedding right now...wouldn't it?" Balraaj asked.

"Excuse us Uncle, but we would like to say something about that," Prem interjected.

"Uncle?" Balraaj repeated. "Use the correct term, son."

"I mean Dad," Prem replied with a smile. "We want to wait until school is out...we have one more month left until summer vacation starts. We were hoping to take our honeymoon during our break. We don't mind getting engaged this week."

"Look at that they already planned everything out," Balraaj laughed.

"Then it's all settled then," Lalit said. "That is prefect...this way we may be able to get more family from overseas to come and join in on the celebrations."

Prem and Heer went around the room and took blessing from the elders before following them into the dining room for lunch. They were teased mercilessly by their family members as they ate. Their faces seemed to be a permanent hue of red. Even with all the ragging they felt happy and elated that their relationship had been accepted and they didn't have to hide any longer.

*******************************************************************

So there you go...hope some of that made sense 😳

Prashant is out! And Prem and Heer are officially together with their parents blessings.

So what is next? This is by no means in any particular order but just to let you know what to look forward to:

-Prem and Heer engagement
-The birth of Kulraj's second child
-MEET track
-Harman and Maya track
-Veera and Nihaal track
...more masti, laughter, romance, and adventures awaits!
